We were partially in the mind set of fitting General Tire Grabber AT3 tires when the time approached for swapping tires. But after doing some research it came to our attention that there are something more advanced than just the average AT tire on the market, something with a bit of a mud terrain feel to it & is priced well withing the region of most AT tires on the South African market.
Hence we opted for the Radar Renegade RT tire.
It comprises of both the characteristics of the All Terrain & Mud Terrain tire features, putting it kind of in the middle, called a Rugged Terrain, or the best of both types of tire.
General Questions info:
Road noise?
I can hear a slight difference when driving on really smooth tarmac, though my wife could not hear a difference even though I tried pointing it out to her.
Fuel economy change?
The tire size remained the same, 265/65/17 so the fuel consumption won't change or be noticeable on day to day driving.
Tread depth measurement? (Both brand new tires used for measurement)
General Grabber AT3 @ 10mm
Radar Renegade RT @ 12mm.
We will closely monitor these tires & provide our honest feedback & opinion on them as time goes by.

Please keep us posted on your experience with those tyres. I will be in the market very soon for a new set and the Radar Renegade RT's are on my list of options.

Will most definitely sir, I will briefly touch base on the tyres each time we do a 4x4 trail or each 10 000km driven update. Radar Renegade's website warrant these 80 000km so that should already tell you that they are confident about their product.

Well .an ipdate on my Radar Renagade RT tyres on my WK2.for me in the wet on tarmac was very bad.running with 2.4 bar pressure , very easy to lose if on bends znd I'm not driving anywhere over speed limit.i think the original reviews that made me choose these were from oz where most of driving was on dirt roads when the performance is good.but I wouldn't recommend for UK roads.great on track though. I will probably go back to K02s and wear ear plugs .

How are they in rain and snow?
@DIESELTECH_ZA
@DIESELTECH_ZA 9 месяцев назад
@@michaelprezioso4288 we do not really have such a lot of snow in South Africa to be able to truly raise an opinion on snow driving. The few times that we did drive in the rain, it was a very smooth ride to be honest. That being deep puddles of water on the road or shallow. I hope it helps answer your question.

I was looking for the original bf goodrich ko 2 in size 205-70-15 and this model does not exist in this size for my Suzuki jimny 4x4 with m13a petrol engine year 2001 1.3 lt petrol and I opted for a set of all terrain mixtas tires from Hankook brand dynapro ATM rf10 205-70-15 m+s and a set of retreaded mud tires from the ziarelli brand Italian tire brand and the model is the ziarelli mud power m+s 205-70-15 m+s! Greetings from Pontassieve, province of Florence, Italy!

Whats the road noise like on these? And has ht made an impact in fuel economy?
@DIESELTECH_ZA
@DIESELTECH_ZA 2 года назад
Hi Grant, hardly noisy at all. I could hear a slight difference when driving on really smooth tarmac, though my wife could not hear a difference even though I tried pointing it out to her. The tire size remained the same, 265/65/17 so the fuel consumption won't change or be noticeable on day to day driving in order to point it out towards the tires. We measured the tread depth between the two tires (both brand new) Grabber AT3 @ 10mm & Radar Renegade RT @ 12mm. So there should be a slight weight difference between the two, but still not enough to be a fuel consumption difference concern. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

I am in the market for new boots for my Tuna and I have read and seen videos re them. I have a 4.0l V6 Tuna. Not a daily driver, used on tracks over weekend, doing long trips tp Kruger and Kgalagadi, and sometimes towing a heavy trailer. Would you recommend them, especially for sand driving and the occational heavy tracks?
@DIESELTECH_ZA
@DIESELTECH_ZA 2 года назад
Hi De Villiers, I'm sure these tires will be fine for what you want to do. I have not driven them in all terrains yet since we fitted them so it is hard to say how well they will perform under which conditions, but I'm sure they will impress, unlike BF Goodrich KO 2's that are usually more unsuited for sand driving like most other AT tires out there due to their hard side wall structure as an example. What I can confirm how ever is that the Radar's has a tread depth of 12mm to the General Grabber AT3 tyre I also had new only measures 10mm tread depth, so already here it shows more value for your money. Sand driving they will perform top notch I's sure of it, heavy tracks even more so seeing that lots of Jeep owners out there have them fitted on their modified vehicles (experienced it myself with the Jeep club in Cape Town) and they usually drive over terrain where our Toyota's won't be able to make it. In short I'm sure you'll be happy with them and they are not that badly priced either. Hope this helps.

hi there, what is your take on aftermarket rims, yes or no?
@DIESELTECH_ZA
@DIESELTECH_ZA 2 года назад
Hi Willem, it mostly depends on what you want to accomplish with them. Personally I never had aftermarket rims on the Hilux since we took ownership of it, so I cannot say. But what I have heard is that quite often aftermarket alloy rims tends to crack / fracture on more extreme off road conditions. So I would say rather stick to the original ones on your vehicle if off road overlanding is your thing. If you are only driving around town then maybe yes. Another option maybe is to just give them a color change / coating to give it ' a customized ' theme. ;)
