*** ALL SCREWS ARE RIGHTY TIGHTY LEFTY LOOSIE *** Due to filming some shots in selfie mode and producing these all on my cell phone some images may be backwards.
This video is the how to change your gear oil at home for your Honda 75/90 hp outboard. Now almost every Honda is the same to change. Same locations just different o-rings or washers. So don't worry. Other motor brand may have them hidden like Mercury will have the lower drain screw behind the prop or Yamaha under the intake screen. So keep that in mind if you are working on one of them. The only trouble you will have is if someone has mangled the screw head before you get there. I will show you that special tool and others that will help in this video. Is it a professional video? No, but I try to be as much as possible. Have I been trained to work on these? Yes, by Honda and I have been doing these for 20 years now. Your gonna be Ok!
The O-ring shown in the video which is used on almost every Honda now a days is
O-ring 91301-ZW4-003
When this number for the o-ring is superseded some day this old one will take you to it.
Our other Washer is this one.
Plastic Washer 90507-921-000
This to is the clear plastic gasket I showed you. Remember try to use what is recommended for your motor. In a pinch look at the seating area on the gearcase and the screw. Will the gasket you pick work? That's all. Remember to lots of motors take different gear oil. Both of these and all the Honda's took 80w-90. Good luck with your oil change and don't hesitate to contact me if you run into trouble. Keep the ground clean and recycle your used oil. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Dan! I has my way through nmea and gateways and canvas systems. I like sight fishing. Lol! Go to Honda marine to find out what your engine calls for. The biggest thing I have found is the green high pressure filters must be done every hundred hours. I have seen lots of them have high speed misfire and collapse because the microns are so much finer. It catches everything. If your carbs non ethanol fuel all the way. If not go easy on stabilizer additives. The floats can stick easily on the 75/90 if you over do it and the fuel evaporates out. Lots of experience cleaning them. Water pump every 3 years at 100 they look good unless you dredge. I hope that helps even plugs are ok to skip. My things are fuel water separator, high pressure filter. Low pressure filter. Gear oil and washers always. Engine oil and filter. Check zincs. Grease zerks pull steering grease that. Grease ends of trim rams. 656 crc engine block when done. Check battery connections and load test. That's about it

If I tighten the plugs to the point I'd need a wrench on the screwdriver, the washers split. I tightened the screw till I see the washer around the head.

Thanks for the video. Seems to be reversed though as you were turning left when tightening. Like taken in a mirror. :-)

Yeah it's in selfie mode so I can control and see if it's taping otherwise I'm flying blind. There is no red blinking light. Unfortunately!

Hi Captain, my oil buzzer is going off. Have full and clean oil, do you know where the sensor is to take it out and put in an oil tester?

I'm not sure which model you have. Go on boats.net and look up your motor. You can find the part on there and also buy one. It can go by your serial number and model. Good luck.

Are these plugs left hand thread? The way you were tightening it looks that way.

Hi Capt Rob I enjoyed your video, thank you. It's pretty clear you know your stuff. Any chance you could do some videos on a 2006 Honda BF200 4 stroke? I am retired and keen to learn as much as possible so I can do the routine service on my outboard. Also where can I obtain washer and thread sizing and part numbers for my motor? Thanks Mark
@captainrobthompson8728
@captainrobthompson8728 4 года назад
Hi Mark I wish I could but I do not own one or know of anyone here with one. You can find some parts at hondamarine or go to boats.net. if you have questions about the 200 ask away. I've done a few powered swaps on those for the user. Make sure you do the high pressure fuel filter every 100 hours and check the valve clearance every 250hours. Clean out your iac with carb cleaner and reinstall every season too. That will help with the rpms hunting just a simple cleaning yearly. No feeler gauge on the plugs either. They are iridium and should not be touched. I hope that gives you a little inside info. But write me anytime. If you find a Honda mechanic make sure he has been one since the 200 came out in the early 2000s. He will know the beast better than anyone else. Good luck.

Any reason to go fully synthetic? I have honda 75. Thanks
@captainrobthompson8728
@captainrobthompson8728 2 года назад
Aahhh a good question. Ok so Japan once told us a Honda engine block is not fully broken in til 1000hrs. After that you can use full synthetic like mobile 1. By going full synthetic you really don't gain anything they just wanted the piston rings to seat/ware properly. I have seen other issues with aftermarket full synthetics clotting when mixed with other oil and engine blocks not coming to full temp and running cold. Just stick with a plane Jane marine grade oil. 10w-30 is fine in the US. 5w-30 was good father north in colder Temps. Look at the heat range of the oil to where you are. In New York we all used honda 10w30 for decades with no problems from 150 hp and lower.

Any parts supplier should have them. Yamaha is also the same size. It is part of the whole pump kit. Yamaha number is ACC-PUMP0-00QT

Flatheads with wrenches attached for leverage? What is this, the 30's? World's worst screw design. Torx and be done with it, already. WTF. Rant aside, nice vid.
