Time to put some new Tyres on the Z900 and I decided to do it myself. I can't say it was easy but definitely rewarding and it's going to be much easier next time.

Thank you, sir! Highly appreciated to see somebody actually doing this for the first time and sharing his experience. It looks like at job that could take som time but that would also not be impossible to complete.

I think I'm going to find it a lot easier next time around, if that's any consolation?

I bought the ABBA superbike stand with the front lift kit. A fantastic bit of kit, which I use all the time.

I was a bit nervous about messing up but at least it would have made for good watching 😁I'm just waiting for someone to tell me the front tyre is on backwards - it's not!

Excellent vid, mark. Luv your tricks. Here's 2 I've learned along the way. First, forget the jack stands, I've used an aluminum ladder with heavy weight straps to lift the bike ends off the floor. The second trick, I've use plastic zip straps (abt 6 per tire) on the new tire b4 mounting, then only need to push the tire once onto the rim, while keeping the strapped tire near the middle of the rim, finish pushing the strapped tire onto the rim is very easy. Once the strapped tire is on the rim, rotate tire when needed, then cut and remove the plastic zip straps.

Thanks Zedi Master. Great tip about the ladder, got to figure out if I can do that. I've seen a youtube demo of the zip tie tyre changing method and I'm definitely giving that a go next time!

A paddock stand with the pins to slot into the bottom of the forks is best for the Z900.

@bikerevz Год назад
Yes, I've seen those, I'll consider it along with the head stand - thanks.

Look into a Constand front stand for your bike, I have one for mine z900 and it works great! just remember to get the right adaptor for the trible hole!
@bikerevz
@bikerevz Год назад
Thanks, they look really good! it's a 27mm adaptor for a Z900 I believe?

Hey @Markz900, I am happy to find you. I have a 2018 Z900. I added Oxford Sport heated grips recently to my bike. I love it and it makes a difference when riding in colder days. What is your opinion on heated grips? I'd love to see you adding one to yours. Thank you for your videos.
@bikerevz
@bikerevz Год назад
Hi Gabriel, great to have you onboard. I love hand warmers when they come as factory fitted on the bike and are just part of the normal controls. I really don't like that big Oxford (or any other) control panel because it spoils the look of the handlebars. So for me, I went with heated gloves. They last about 3 hours and that's plenty for what I do in the winter. Respect to you for fitting them and you're going to have nice warm hands, it's just not for me!

I'm a bit concerned that you never mentioned the direction arrows on both the tyres and the wheels, getting that right is vital. Otherwise it was well worth watching, I've been changing my tyres for years and I use a old VW Beetle jack with a foot welded onto it to break the tyre bead, with the wheel resting on two pieces of timber. Well done to you.
@bikerevz
@bikerevz Год назад
Doh! How did I miss that. Soon be time for some more and next time I'm going to try the zip tie method. I'll also make sure I mention the direction arrow. Thanks.

Hello Mark, very interesting video. I run a similar setup to replace tyres by myself and I can confirm it can be a challenge. The zip tie method mentioned on the previous comment is helpful. Anyway Im wondering on your opinions with the new tyres vs the 01s, are the STs as good and long lasting? Cheers!
@bikerevz
@bikerevz Год назад
Hi, so far the STs are really long lasting compared to everything else I've tried. I dont push them too hard so the grip has been fine but loads of people warning me that they're not as good as Road5 etc. I'd buy them again, for sure.

rock on mark! i like your pallet set up better than my barrel trick hehe for years and years i just didnt bother with the balance and just lined up the dot and threw some salt, after watching you i might just have a look at some of these affordable bubble balancer types! if your willing to listen to old shadey tree advice, ill tell u the trick tires are sneaky, they like to bead and un bead when your not looking, as soon as you turn away in fact, so when u try to spoon them on the bottom or sometimes both edges on the opposite side that your working on will semi bead, alot of times u have to hold one of your irons with a knee and take that hand and feel around on the side that (deceptively ) looks finished and make your hand into a "C" push both sides down into the center of your rim, this will give you that tiny bit of slack you need to get that last bite on :D very important! ive seen people actually tear the bead trying to force it on, especially with ultra low profile tires, they didnt realize the opposite side was fighting them and had beaded itself, youll get maximum slack when both sides of the tire are all the way down in the center of the rim! if you knew this or discovered this along the way, bravo, but maybe some avid Z clubber will read it and get a flash of insight!
@bikerevz
@bikerevz Год назад
Thank you so much for the advice. I did know this from watching endless youtube channels on 'how to' but easier said than done I guess. I don't know if you have ever seen the 'zip tie method' but that really does enforce your point about where the sides of the tyre need to be in relation to where you are applying force.

For me personally I take bike to garage and pay for replacing £30-£40 both tires once a year (with new valves, balancing) , so no point to buy specialist tools and spend hours to replace tyres unless you do track days etc. replacing more often than 2 times per year - there is good tool Rabaconda. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AkvKws9qk9s.html I respect you for the time, effort and willingness to replace tires on your own. I could be worried about bending ABS rotor or disc brake.

Think I will just pay £30 to have a tyre professionally fitted.. Fitting tyres yourself can be dangerous.
@bikerevz
@bikerevz Год назад
I can't disagree that £30 and some waiting around would seem to be worth it! I do think that Motorcycling is already inherently dangerous, so what we do is understand the danger and deal with it. so for example, don't fit your own tyres if you don't know how to remove a wheel or know which way round the tyres go! For me, I felt comfortable doing all this, but yeah, it's not for everyone.
