Changing the rear tire on a Honda Sabre 1100

Looking around I hadn't seen a good video showing how to replace the rear tire on my motorcycle. I hope this video is helpful to others wondering how to change the rear tire. I have highly modified my Sabre into a chopper and it doesn't fit on most motorcycle racks now so it makes no sense to take it to the shop to change the tire. Now I just pull it off and have the shop mount and balance the rubber. This really is a fast process. The video has almost no time removed from it. so you can see the entire removal and reinstall only takes about 12 minutes. Taking the tire to the shop and coming back took longer than that. Check out the the entire bike here: • My Finished Chopper - ...

I’m a minute and 52 seconds in and I’m seeing vice grips being used instead of a socket or wrench and washers flying...

That stupid axle gear wouldn't come off when I tried to remove the tire! I had to remove the rotor and work it out. Once I got enough distance I was able to grip and pull the axle gear out but it was a pain

That sounds like a pain.

Nice ride buddy, it's exactly what I'm looking to do with my old 2004 sabre. Where did you got the ideas for the transformation? It's there any video or tutorial etc for it? That's my next garage project

I had the idea before getting the bike. I was going to do a 1300 VTX but ended up with the Sabre. The things I knew I wanted where the rake and solo seat. The rest came as I started working. There are no solo seats for the sabre as far as I could find so I had it custom made for $450 at Mr Eds Moto.

No, you cannot pull the axle through from the left side of the bike. The right side of the axle is larger like the head on a bolt. In my case, I have short pipes so it is not an issue but stock pipes require removing (or at least relaxing) the exhaust to pull the axle.

Thanks, you saved me a lot of time. However, one suggestion, I wouldn't lift my bike using the oil filter as the positioning lift point, if that broke off the cost of repair will probably exceed the cost of the bike. I'm building accessories to accommodate my lift on the frame only, and its a pain.

I haven't tried this yet, but will he axle come out the left side of the tire, to avoid taking off the pipes?

Have you got that thing lifted sitting on the oil filter?

Hi Glen, I have a Honda Shadow Sabre Vt1100 2005 model and am wanting to remove the rear tire as part of one of the many things i have to remove in order to just change my fuel pump. Anyways I am finding the nut that I need to remove on the left side is on really tight. This is probably normal huh? You made it look easy. Any pointers? Thanks.
@schworak
@schworak 10 лет назад
Yes, that nut should be tight. Wouldn't want the back tire coming loose while riding right? From the factory or if done by a shop, they usually use an impact wrench to get it tight. If you do it at home a breaker bar or tapping the wrench with a mallet will loosen it up. Be sure you are turning it the right way of course. Make sure the right side is clamped down tight too before you start or the shaft will rotate rather than coming loose. Hope that helps. This bike has no lock pin but double check that yours to be safe.

Glenn Schworak Thanks! Ya this tire is the same as yours in the video. No locking pin present. I'll try your tips and see what happens. Afterwards I have to take the swing arms apart too uggh. Thanks again for your video.

I haven't had the need to remove the swing arm yet. Changed a lot of other stuff though. Lights, seat, fenders, rake, forks, head & tail lights. Whew... Make your own video when you pull the swing arm. Others will want to see it.

Might be a long shot lol due to the age of this video but what seat is that?? And how is it mounted lol
@schworak
@schworak 2 года назад
It is a custom mod. Because the sabre only has bench seats, i took it to a local guy who cut the pan and shaped it specifically for me. It has enough lip on the back to prevent sliding.

@@schworak ahh ok yea I figured. I have an 05 and just bobbed the rear fender but still kept the longer seat. I wanted to buy a bobbed rear fender but I don’t dig the springer seats lol so I was hoping someone figured out a way to use a normal solo seat that could just bolt on some way haha thanks for the reply man!

What year Sabre is this?
@schworak
@schworak 10 лет назад
It was a 2007 Sabre but you would never guess it was even a Honda at this point.

It "was" a 2007 Sabre. Doesn't look anything like it now though.
