I have to do my water pump on my 197,000 mile 2003 Grand Marquis. The pump just blew. Thanks for video telling what size sockets are needed along the way. Been about 25 years since I did a water pump. Thanks again!
A Great Video. I'm a "show me" guy, you can tell me what to do all day and I still won't know what to do, but a Excellent video like you made; I CAN DO IT. Thanks again. Many Accolades to you for a really Great "how to" Video. Keep up the good work.
I like to use a thin vinyl tube to siphon out the coolant from the expansion tank. Once it's empty, remove hose from bottom of expansion tank and feed the vinyl tube down into the hose as far as you can, then siphon the coolant from the engine. Catch the coolant on the other side in empty gallon jugs. Should be about 2 gallons removed. Very little mess, and easy to refill after without buying new coolant.
Good deal... hopefully the job turns out well :) Follow the instructions and use your pump of choice and you'll be good.. that pump lasted me till I unfortunately totaled the car a couple years later
hello.just wondering if your pump is reverse rotation or not? I have found no resource s that tell me which one I need.your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank u man .. I changed my thermostats and it started running hot but before it wasnt i did it because of a code .. Ill try the water pump now... Again thanks man
Thanks for the video, i have play in my water pump, bought a new one, im in the rust belt and kinda worried about taking off the drain plug vs just the hose, i might have to pull the radiator and tilt it to drain..
why do you drain the radiator to change the pump? it's not going anywhere--its just going to sit in the radiator...and you don't need to remove the belt-guard, just pull belt off the pump pulley, and then put back on pulley when done...I admit, my pump just dumped out all coolant, so no need to drain. But I do greatly appreciate your taking the time to make the video! Good job...I wonder if that water pressure behind the pump might actually help to push the pump out...?
Damn u have a 04 cvpi... I have to do this today. It sounds like a bag of rocks almost. I think I need a new pulley also but this was awesome bro. Thanks a lot
Hi, i have a 2007 lincoln town car, and it overheated today, i had a little coolant leak for a while ago, but just topped off with water. It hasnt leaked for a week, wich was weird. And today it was boiling out of nowhere. So i topped it with a pink concentrate, but the weird thing about that, is that when it boiled the second time, the coolant wich came out was still the pink one, fresh From shop, seemed To me that it didnt even circulate more then just inside the radiator, im pretty sure it didnt make it To the engine. Could it be the waterpump? Or what could it be. Also the fan isnt working after it overheated... I dont have any idea why
For a start this is why I always leave the belt on when removing (or at least loosening) the bolts.. failing that you could wedge a screwdriver in the pulley path to keep it still, or maybe try and impact
Is it the same on a 2000 grand marques for changing the water pump as shown in the video of 2004 grand marques gs. Mine is a grand marques ls. Thank you.
If it's for a 30yo grand Marquis or even any other 302 engine... I dunno how to do it. Just know that the threads on the fan clutch holding the fan may be reverse threaded
Yes sir. If you see coolant coming out under any circumstance (be it slow drips, small steady stream, even entire gushes) theres your bogey. Replace it now lest you get a bigger mess down the road and believe me I've seen it on a Saturn
@@adventureoflinkmk2 I’m currently only running straight water. New car to me, coolant was muddy as hell. Been seeing coolant leaking very slowly. Even under 10 psi it was dripping but I drove car and look and there’s nothing. I’m hoping this is the culprit, maybe while I’m driving? Still watching your video lol
Could very well be, especially if it's leaking on a pressure test. Good luck And you'll definitely wanna flush the system out if you have muddy coolant
@@adventureoflinkmk2yeah I had been flushing it as is many times. I remove the thermostat and drove it for about 30 minutes or so after I did that it was just as muddy as a dead before. Went ahead and pulled the thermostat and ran it for 20 minutes with the petcock open and the hose and the refill
As far as I saw, no. FYI I drove that same gasketless wooder pump to and from Chicago, all throughout Tennessee, even to Atlanta GA without a problem. Didnt lose a drop at all.
Actually, now that I think of it man... that rubber band that goes around the circular park that goes in the hole on the block. That's the only gasket I saw. I didn't see any evidence of other gaskets where it bolts to the engine (as in felpro, paper, metal, another rubber band, RTV/The right stuff, etc.)..
A 2004 GM gs for 4950 with 106,000 miles or a 2005 CV with 99,000 miles with 4950 or a 2003 GM with 105,000 miles. Im on the fence with all three. Also how can I tell if the miles are honest on the cars? Again, great video. Great car.
I have an 04 ford crown vic bout the same pulley and water pump system my pump is stuck it won't come off and im getting frustrated. I don't know what to do to get it out
And I should expand and say if that's the case, I'd be cleaning out where the water pump sits on the block, then flush the system. I didn't think you could use heat in such a small place..
Sorry I meant I have a cvpi lol but I thought I needed a new pulley but it was how bad the water pump was. It looked cracked in the middle and it was actually wobbly. I just changed it and it was a breeze.
could be one of those. could be a blockage in your coolant system as well. test your thermostat, flush the system really well, check the water pump and make sure the radiator isnt clogged. also make sure that the electric fann behind the grill cuts on and off
