Tonite on Ridiculous Gear: Bricky gets smothered in-between a Great Unclean One's thighs to find that ripe Nurgussy. DK gets his brains blasted by Aetaos’rau’keres for trying to use it's name in a game of scrabble and Shy follows her destiny and becomes a Tormentbringer on Exalted Seeker Chariot.

One of my favorite moments is when the Tyranids are attacking Baal, and the rage of the blood angels, and the sheer amount of slaughter, summoned an Exalted Bloodthirster that fell to the surface and left a crater in the shape of the 8 pointed star.

There's a story in the aos battle tome for nurgle where one of the tree people who's name I can't spell was captured and converted by nurgle's forces. However he was later rescued and given a bath by the storm cast eternals, and welcomed into their ranks. Nurgle sees this as a rejection of his gifts, and it makes him so mad that it "gave pause to Khorn". Imagine being SO MAD that even khorn is like "whoa, dude chill. It's cool"

The most unfathomable one to me is a Flamer of Tzeentch. It's flames don't burn. No, no. They cause RAPID MUTATION. You don't die being incinerated. You die by your body violently bursting as " Oh, your liver has become a massive tooth the size of a dragon ogre's, your ribs have become eels, your abdomen has become a massive mouth and long whip tongue. "

DK is actually right about Grey Knights keeping Daemons' True Names on their armour, but I think they're reading that as *carved* onto their armour, and that's not right. The True Names are kept in that book that they all keep a copy of in a casket on their chest. It's called the Liber Daemonicum or Libra Damonicus.

Me in the game the Darktide beta. After getting a better shovel: "For the Emperor!" After getting a chainsword: "For the Emperor!" After getting a chainax: "Blood for the blood god!" I truly understand the will of the skull throne.

Nurgle ain't that simple tho. Tzeench love crazy ritual but Nurgle love math, and precise stuff, Mortarion has a wide array of fucking weird magical clockworks, nurgle loves to make time paradoxes that fixes event (unchanging loop repeating themselves for eternity...). And his greater daemons have the most accurate knowledge of their ranking in grandpa goodboi list. (from first to last). They will a lot of time, when talking between them declare proudly where they stand on the list (44509th or 450th and so on...). Since godbligth, Rotigus took Kugath spot as n°1 and his latest disease was "spreading doubt " by simply guiding an archeologist toward proof that during the HH, Bobby established imperium secundus. Another "weird'" disease was Typhus spreading a song that spread on a planet until it simply ate any other thoughts in the mind of the people that heard it. His shtick isnt just "cancer that grow teeth and also ooze pus out your eyes"

I kind of wish there was a story about a planetary governor that found out about the horror of chaos, but instead of becoming corrupted, he tried making the world unappealing to any one section of chaos by making it appealing to all of the aspects of chaos that he views as "good"

I'm pretty sure Khorne’s sacred number is 8 just because it sounds like ‘hate’.

Khorne's magic is fueled by blood. It's stuff like knitting flesh back together through slaughter, repairing broken bones and muscles, et cetera. Even blazing blades and enhanced reflexes.

You want to read a good example of Slaaneshi corruption in the 'traditional' sense? The novel 'Shadowsword' in the Baneblade series. A standard rebellion of a world within the imperium (due to tithe strain) leads to ruination. The book also has a great scene of a dismounted Imperial superheavy tank commander(armed with a powered rapier) landing a perfect heart-thrusting stab on an Emperor's Children marine, only for the marine to survive the hit, pull the sword out, reminisce about the loss of his birth heart and the emotions it causes him, before grabbing the guardsman and starting to carve his arm up with a knife looking for a 'fine nerve to pluck' so they can 'sing songs of agony and ecstasy together'. I brought this up as a cool fight scene but it happens to also be an example of why being taken alive by the EC is almost as bad as the Dark Eldar. This Astartes was still in battle and decided to start torturing the guardsman in a shell crater, even.

So, we are going to have an episode about Be'Lakor one day? sounds fun, I hope there would also be an episode about different Daemon Princes. There are some really interesting stories buried in the lore. I think my favorite DP is Ax'senaea, mostly because her ascension was so outrageous, even by Warhammer standards. She was a despot of her planet, an egomaniac solipsist (believes that she is the only thing that exists and everything else is just imagination) and overall, very unpleasant person. A sorcerer managed to trick her into allowing herself to be possessed by a daemon, convincing her that this would empower her. She summoned a Keeper of Secrets, the strongest of Slaanesh daemons, and against all odds managed to subjugate it with nothing but her raw ego and self-centeredness. She used the daemon as her tool to shape her planet as she wanted, to her own image, until ithe daemons power was exhausted and she banished it back to the Warp. Then she allowed a second one to possess her and subjugated it too. And then the third one, earning herself the moniker of Thrice Possessed. Even Slaanesh was genuinely impressed by her raw egoism and rewarded Ax'senaea with princehood.

There is one thing that i love about Khorne in Fantasy and ranged weapons, he hates them but in his elite group of Daemons, the Blood Hunt there is always a few Skull cannons, why? Because when he leaded himself the hunt those cannons where there with him, now Ka'Banda is the leader but he cant kick them out because Khorne still likes them, is like an adult that cant let go his old toys. And i relate to that

Probably one of my favorite 40k books is one called the deacon of wounds, its where a good natured ecclesiarch plays into the hands of nurgle while trying to save his dying planet. it truly captures the insidious nature of chaos and how you can serve chaos without even knowing it.

Depending on the demon if it dies in the warp it ceases to exist but you need to meat certain conditions to kill them , however the emperors sword erases the existence of any thing in the warp it burns. Mass swaths of burgles garden are permanently gone now and he would have to replace it with new things

In the farsight books there's a really good example of a tzeenche deamon cursed to only ever tell the truth possessing a watercast and then an inquisitor

A bit of correction here: While the Chaos Gods do get fed by simple emotions that correlates to their respective domains, there is a reason why the Daemons can only manifest through rituals and that is because worship directed to them feeds them more than simple emotions ever could. One fanatic worshipper feeds them more with his prayer than a hundred unbelievers could with just their emotions. Emotion is meager food to the gods, the real prize for them is and always has been faith and worship, because otherwise, they wouldn't be gods, now would they?

There's multiple daemons that don't appear in the codex that are quite cool : There's the prisoner of the emerald cave which is a great unclean one so powerful and so foul that he was able to spawn armies and his sheer stench could kill a plague marine, it took 300 grey knights and an entire regiment of guardsmen as well as some titans to contain that thing only 20 grey knights survived. There's also Bubonis and Abominatous which are greater daemons of Nurgle and Khorne respectively which managed to possess titans and are now an amalgamation of titans and daemons.

I find it funny how DK says that Nurgles holy number is 34, and the way you get to 7, is with 3 and 4.

Each individual deamon is created from a fraction of energy from it's parent deity and as such every deamon is a part of one of the greater chaos Gods given sentience, personality and agency. The only way for a deamon to be permanently "destroyed" is if they offend their creator to the point where they reclaim the energy invested in the deamons creation.

So Daemons can be killed outside of the warp but so far there are only two known ways. Either being killed/banished while near a blank since they would be banished while cut off from the warp or being killed by the Emperors sword. So Guilleman and sisters of silence can definitely truly kill daemons.

Was discussing the gods with a friend and in all honesty it was more a discussion between War Hounds than World Eaters regarding Khorne and his better aspects of life he represents which I truly enjoyed

Chaos daemons are my favorite faction because they have limitless lore possibilities and flavor. They cannot truly “die” by normal means, they are functionally immortal, like orks they see the 40k setting as one big game, and there are other deities in the warp that aren’t chaos-aligned.

Time to pray to the Chaos Gods for a Raven Guard episode.

I was expecting more going through the individual kinds of daemon forms that the chaos gods manifest. What they look like, are called, abilities they have, things they've been recorded participating in. Maybe a couple of named daemons from each. Good episode still but maybe something for the future? I wanna see Dk react to some of the less advertised forms.

Bricky and DK already mentioned it, but that's Tzeentch story would make for a great survival horror game in the same vein as The Evil Within. Play as one of the rebels trying to survive the outbreak all the while still trying to kill the loyalist guards. Would be a blast.

33:00 There's a fanfic, a crossover with Neon Genesis Evangelion, that includes my personal favorite "actually, the Chaos Gods aren't so bad" bits, where one character describes each of the four gods to his companion, describing Tzeench as a god of change and hope, about the will to move forward and improve yourself, Slaanesh as a god of sensuality, passion and the arts, who is just as much about passionate lovemaking as it is about the satisfaction an artist feels upon completing a work, Khorne as a god of valor, courage and wrath, an angry god who empowers those who seek to crush those who would keep them low and, finally, Nurgle as a god of life and death, who delights in the joy of others and is life and growth without restraint.

This is why I love Tzeentch the most as he embodies Cuthulu horror the most and the plots and schemes are just great. I use him in Dark Heresy when I have experienced investigators who need a challenge as Khorne, Nurgle and Slanesh are too easy to figure out for 40K savants but Tzeentch I can always mess with them.

Towards the end of the episode Bricky mentioned how it was a great translation from lore to rules that Daemons teleports based on leadership. It doesn't make sense half the time. Tyranids for example are never scared. The individual bioforms are closer to being one organism connected to The Hive Mind. By all accounts they should have leadership 99. Effectively infinite in all respects. Your cells do not get scared inside your body, they fight and die, and sacrifice themselves for the organism. Only when the entire organism is threatened, is it afraid.

Man, all this talk about daemons in horror stories reminds me of how good The House of Night and Chain was.

On the bright side, doing the chaos demons episode AFTER the pandemic gave Shy a lot of good material to use for the Nurgle portion.

My favorite part of the Horus Heresy books is when the space marine legions all encounter daemons for the first time. It’s awesome!

I think a good way to picture the beginning of when slaneesh daemon incursion happens is like the ending scene of hereditary with the calm peaceful music until it hits you with that demon sheit

Khorne and his greater demons are not idiots. They know what tactics are and can use them. When your army is unable to take permanent casualties that risk cost calculus of front assaults changes. Thought about the great game. So dreams of change fuel Big bird( spelling that name is hard). Salvation from disease fuel nurgle. Who receives the soul of someone wishing change from their condition? The answer would be who is present, who cares, and who is winning that front of the great game. The warp is an idea more so than a place.

Technically you “can” kill a demon but you either need to destroy it completely. Only a few ways can be done and one of them uses Big E’s sword which basically can destroy ANY warp essence it cuts through. The other way is that soul deletion power that Big E used to kill Horus. Also technically demons can destroy one another and then absorb their essence to become stronger. You can see that happen in the Daemonculaba book where a Khornate Daemon finds and kills a Tzeentchian Daemon.

Is this where we bring up that time Logan Grimnar, the Chapter Master of the Space Wolves, built a throne out of his enemies skulls? (the same dude who uses an axe he stole off a dead Khorne Champion?)

I absolutely implore you guys to please read the novel The Talons of Horus for the book club. It is written by good old ABD ( Aaron Dembski-Bowden) and it made me start collecting Black Legion. The perspective of a Thousand Sons sorcerer turned Black Legion. Along with the descriptions of demons and the gods made me say “that’s so cool” audibly multiple times. As a Chaos simp this book is a 10/10 from me.

I recently just finished listening to ADB's Talons of Horus and Black legion. I feel these two books gave me an enormous insight into demons! They are also now in my top 5 black library books. The fall to chaos is slow but envietable. Their incredible books and recommend them for chaos and demon stuff.

Tzeentch is also almost become way stronger than other chaos god. And at the same time tzeentch`s the only chaos god that had daemon king.. not prince. KING! even chaos primarchs are just daemon prince...

To answer your question, DK, there are certain weapons that can give true death to a daemon. They operate by destroying and/or completely dispersing all of the warp energy a deamon has, but they are exceedingly rare. One of these exceedingly rare weapons is the Emperor's flaming sword. There are also the very rare, extremely powerful pariah/blank(these would be the equivalent of an alpha+ in power level) that can with training and specialized equipment erase a daemon from all of existence.

I only fought a blood thirster once in 9th, it was with guard but it was not a problem because I ran it over with my shadow sword. Big tank go burrr

This was a cool episode but I'd like an episode on the specific Deamon types. You could maybe split it into the Deamons of the 4 main gods.

Gray Knights are some of my favorites, having read "Gray Knights Sons of Titan" and the sheer amount of stuff that they are capable of & go through is just astonishing.

I’m noticing there’s some serious overlap in what the chaos gods are about, like desire could also involve nurgle or xeentch as you could wish to stay the same, or grow.

This video made me want to buy this book just for the art. I'm a dungeon master for a warhammer fantasy rpg, one of my best characters was an slaanesh one, a shallian (priestess of the goddess of healing) obsess with her child (specifically her dead son). Should've been just a random enemy until finishing the stats for the character, when i roll to see the her gifts and mutations. Her gift was to birth a little daemon and the mutation of that daemon is being covered with spikes, so probably an even worse birth process than usual.

I would love to see you guys cover malice and the sons of malice, because they are cool and deserve more love from Games workshop.
