I am loving your videos! I am a 30 year veteran teacher / principal, currently serving as a Behavior Interventionist. I recently had to take over a classroom for the last 4 weeks of school. I did much of what you are advising (before viewing your videos) and must say, renewing my mind after a week of chaos made a difference. I had reach deep down and find my confidence and authority to gain control of a class which had already gone through a teacher resigning mid-year and two subs. Keep up the great work!

What do you do to stop major behavior problems? I have very defiant disruptive student that nothing works because he doesn’t care.

I am working on a video for defiant behaviors In the meantime, look at the pattern of his behavior to get an idea of why he is disruptive and defiant (is he avoiding something or gaining something with his behavior?) You may want to find out what he does care about and see if you can attach a related academic activity to it. Or let him work for his preferred activity. Start with baby steps, the goal is to get the student working, even it is a little at first.

I love how you give clever and kind strategies. You have clear ideas that are easy to use. My heart is with alternative students, high school science. They are smart irreverent and sometimes very frustrated. Thank you for your support. You rock!

Yes!! I believe in imagery. You have to visualize what you want to achieve what you want. 👍👍

How do you recommend stopping disrespect in classroom? And how do you handle same couple of students arguing across the room? Thank you for your great videos!

I have an earlier video "How to Manage Disrespectful Behaviors" on this channel. I think it would be helpful. Regarding the students who are repeatedly arguing students, a few strategies: (1) Conflict Mediation- find the reason, create boundaries and agreement with the students involved (2) Provide replacement behaviors for when they are tempted to respond to one another - allow time for practice (3) Use your classroom management system- specially the incentives/consequences part ( they can owe time for the amount of time spent arguing + disrupting the classroom- then use the time for #1-2) . Hope this helps:)

I am SO glad to find your channel! I have taught for many years but this is my first year in a Title 1 elementary school and I am shaken! Does your channel speak to ALL age groups?

Yes, mostly K-12.

What strategy would you use for out of seat behaviors, possibly a redirect or if / then?
@FeedTheirNeeds
@FeedTheirNeeds 10 месяцев назад
Yes, start with a redirect, but definitely look into the why of the behavior. Then, based on the why, the student may need a scheduled break or add out of seat activities to the day or period.

Please provide examples of what to offer during Choice Time with 5th graders. Also, when should Choice Time be during the school day and for how long?
@FeedTheirNeeds
@FeedTheirNeeds Год назад
Choice time for 5th graders could be computer time, board game table, arts and crafts, social talk table (time they can talk ), Book club, or music corner. When I started choice time, it was 7 min in the morning and 7 minutes in the evening. They need a more frequent, immediate structure. I have done 10-15 min a day. I have done 30 min a week, I have collaborated with the team, and done 30 min-1 hour 2x a month. It really depends on what students need and what your admin will allow. But I would say no more than 20 min a day.

Treat them as responsible individuals not some sort of animals that theres always reward after doing acceptable behavior. Like what we do when we train dogs
