i've been exposed to enough philosophy to know there's no way in hell i could ever debate this or add to it or make any serious contribution without studying for years. the specific details of philosophy, the endless, painstaking semantics are so critically specific that if you don't know what to look for, one philosophy can practically sound identical to another but not mean the same thing at all. it's all fascinating enough just to consider and try to understand.

I think language is inherently detached from reality and has more roots in tribalism than truth, vs say math. So I would argue as culture becomes more left brain or more attached to the short sightedness of language culture itself becomes more detached from reality.

the scary thing that you're doing Jane is you think in order to contest these idea's you have to be greater than or equal to those people's abilities. Their idea's are one perspective not the perspective. The mistake you are making is that. You can have your perspective and you will have your perspective whether you like it or not. What you might not have their effort or pursuit of their idea's. That's where left brain culture fails, to think there is one final solution then inbreeds those idea's to their bitter errored ends.

Nietzsches perpsectivism is so underrated, modern epistemologists still have found no answer to his denial of metaphysical truth-entities.

And yet, regardless of any myriad of "language" each of the blind mice may use to describe their "truth" of the elephant, the elephant nonetheless exists.

Really? There is something that we call an elephant, but both objects, categories and properties our the way we interpret the world

@@mouwersor The thing in itself remains, regardless. Even Nietzsche acknowledged that truth has to exist, lest his own attempt and relaying his message to us is in vain and rendered useless. This thinking, though, inevitably brings us to a place where people can rationalize their own nihilism which Nietzsche apparently wanted to avoid. But then, human nature...
@mouwersor

@@charleschong7362 "The thing in itself remains, regardless." Oh sure not denying that. I just want to emphasize how the language we use (specifically here our categories/concepts) is still in a way subjective.
@charleschong7362
@charleschong7362 3 года назад
@@mouwersor Agreed. But for daily living in the concrete world, at what point is the thing in itself sufficiently understood so that when know we are building a house and it will not fall on our heads? I just wanted to emphasize that in the end there is something there, objectively, irregardless of what we feel or call it. Truth.

what about truth is the theory that best explains all the evidence and has the most predictive power ? sure there will never be objective truth but can we maybe get very close ?
@AstroSquid

So at the end, the argument of truth and foundations. The reality of that is it's an egotistical search for a judgment vs a better understanding. When a judgment is made a benefit can be had at another person expense. ie, I know what reality is and you don't, there fore I'm more entitled than you. So the experience of reality is high jacked by ego and it's imposing of an hierarchy, when that is the choice being made to evoke a tribal power. Or another choice is to not seek power via tribal aspects of language, but instead seek to understand more and know the limits of language and humans ability to remember and logically parse out information.

(4:50). Somewhere else Nietzsche reports this insight as, " 'Truth' is a kind of lie without which a certain species could not endure life!"

In a way, Nietzsche contradicts himself (as presented in this video), which ironically supports his notion of Truth as a contradiction. ie we have evolved as a species to judge stimuli in order to increase in Power;, and yet he claims - as the post-modernists do - that there is no Truth; only perspectives. However, in order to increase our chances of survival and flourishing, we must make judgements (on truth vs non-truth) that best serve that evolutionary self-interest. Hence: there IS objective truth. And that objective is: the enhancement of the species.

Interesting lecture as all of these are. I am reminded of the exchange between Jesus and Pilate. When pirate questions Jesus concerning the claim that Jesus is a king ( and therefore in challenge to Ceasar) Jesus said his kingdom is not of this world. Jesus told Pilate that he had come to testify to the truth and that all in the side of truth listen to him. Pirate being the prototype Nietzscean replies " Truth, what is truth?". Actually Pikate really wasn't actually asking a question because he defined truth in terms of power when he told Jesus, that he had the power to put Jesus to death. Very Nietzscean. You can read this fascinating exchange in the gospel of John. Jesus clearly personalizes the truth as closely linked with himself. Interesting that Nietzsche wrote a book called " The Antichrist" in which he claimed the title for himself. Very interesting. You might ask the question " Who am I to believe?". But then again you might not. It's entirely up to you.

Running away from a snake does not require language. Teaching a child that snakes are bad and should be fun away from, does. Language only imposes a structure on the world, when that structure had socially co-evolved with a culture in which kids run away from a snake and think sheep are cute.

isn't it sufficient to say that eagles wants to eat the lamb, and the lamb doesn't want to be eaten, those both seem hard to dispute, but both saying that its bad or good that the eagle has eaten the lamb are false claims, cause the idea of good and bad is what is misguided, different moralities are not different perspectives, but different illusions, trying to combine illusions unlike combining perspectives wont get you closer to the truth.

If the lamb was self-conscious and capable of communicating that to others, then his "killing" would be wrong.

I agree with the Pragmatic approach to truth, which is simply the truth is simply whatever side who has the best argument(in a factual sense) It`s easy simply and straightforward so i.e stuff like Math and Biology are objective truths
