Hey man. I just want to say...that I really think you should bring these four back and review other media...even if it may be ironically LOL. They were hilarious.
Great video man you should have these 4 except Kai, replace him with kamille, have them rank and review the Gundam spin offs like wing and 00 me and my buddy would definitely watch that one too
@@davidesspavid4573 I will not confirm or deny whether or not the same characters or different characters will appear, but I am for sure making two sequels to this video
Bro literally joined because he heard someone make fun of his name across space via space magic and then started to roast them and then started a insane rambling
"MY NEWTYPE POWERS NEVER FAIL ME! TCH. I CAN FEEL YOUR FEAR! I HEARD WHISPERS THROUGH THE COSMOS!" "Kamille! Old buddy, I swear on Neo Zeon no one said anything." "BUDDY. BUDDY! YOU KNOW YOU GOT A BIG MOUTH FOR A DIRTY TRAITOR!" " WHA- MY- I am not! I have never betrayed anyone in my entire life!" Crew immediately settles on A tier for Zeta - the entire exchange was pure gold lmao.
Mikamoto also did the amazing character designs for Gunbuster at the same time as 0080. His art is great and stands out even more now in this age of a lot of anime looking the same. Let's also not forget that Gundam 0080 was written by Hiroyuki Yamaga who also made one of the greatest anime ever in the form of The Royal Space force with Gainax. When he gave an interview he said that he was given a Gundam Bible that told him what he could and couldn't do. Unlike Western writers here that work on shows like Star Trek and Star Wars and complain that they have to adhere to established canon Yamaga said that he found it forced him to be creative and made him work harder as a writer. That is why Gundam , specifically the UC stuff, has more respect and love for it by the fans than franchises over in the West now in this DEI infested culture.
See, THIS is how you use AI Voice Cloning tastefully. Beautiful job right here, my dude! Also, RIP Michael Kopsa. You will always be the One True English Char in my eyes.
I’m not monetized just yet, however, once I am, I will not turn on monetization for these AI videos. I refuse to make a dime off them in order to maintain artistic integrity and use these tools in the most respectful and responsible way possible. I just want to have fun with the community and hopefully bring in new fans. Thanks for the support!
Michael Kopsa was to Char what Kevin Conroy [who also sadly passed away in 2022] was to Batman, and what RDJ is to Tony Stark, and what Sir Patrick Stewart is to Professor X.
I agree, but i still really liked the movie. It felt like a dream at points, and i really didn't care that every single loose end wasn't tied up in front of our noses for us. It's like a world that continues to exist even when you aren't there to observe it, and that you are hopeful will turn out as best as it can.
while that may be the case, are you sure you want to see a full length 40-50 episode series of Seabok being the prelude to Shinn? as much as i like F91, the fact many of the characters didn't get any development until the final act bodes ill if that translates to an episodic format.
@@Neethan3247 Right?! Even though in Z-Gundam PS2 game ending he turns full villain when he felt what happened to Kamille after his battle with Scirocco.
"What, did you think newtypes couldn't get on wifi?" This video is so good. The dialog is fantastic. It feels so authentic to the characters while still adding so much humor. This is the first tier list video I've seen that made me laugh, made me cry, and made me appreciate Gundam just a little bit more.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you noticed the little details. I spent about a month and a half on the script and it was long as hell lol. My main inspiration when writing the characters was the TeamFourStar DBZ abridged, as well as ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’. I wanted it to be funny and feel like just a couple of guys shooting the shit, but I also wanted to incorporate their lore and backstories. So there’s just a shit load of fourth wall breaking lol.
@@charlesballiet7074 Clearly you need to watch and read more gundam to appreciate the dialogue. OG gundam fans seem to enjoy the dialogue which jokes about the characters.
Gundam Hathaway vs Hathaway's Flash is interesting because in HF, it's a sequel to Beltorchika's Children, NOT CCA. And in BC, Hathaway doesn't kill a teamate. He actually does the right thing and vaporizes Quess, which leaves him with a very different sort of Trauma.
It’s been stated that the film adaptation has been altered to fit within the anime timeline. The same way that Chars counterattack movie differs from the original novel. Another franchise that did something similar would be the Stephen King Dr. Sleep movie. It’s both an adaptation of the original book while still being a sequel to the Stanley Kubrick film version of the shining.
in one of the novels Amuro did get into a test type version of the Gundam MK 2 and it's said that his newtype abilities had grown so strong that the Gundam fell apart when he rushed it back to base during testing
Currently catching up on all the series! This video took about two months of work, so I’m hoping to finish all of the anime in time to have it released by summer.
@@Retroroboboy Fair enough, it takes time to watch all these shows, write down notes and think up what the characters would say, along with actually AI simulating the dialogue. I've been making my way through the series from 0079 onwards in release order but hit a massive snag of procrastination during G Gundam, which took me 2 years to finally get through. The was a while ago now and i've still yet to start Wing. Been watching all new anime stuff since IBO started however, so the project hasn't entirely stalled.
"Oh wow, I didn't know you could read Kai!" "FUCK YOU Char." Broke me for some reason I need a sec to let that leave my head cause I can't stop laughing for some reason.
22:48 On the topic of Macross connections to Gundam, it's also interesting to note that Shoji Kawamori (creator and mecha designer of Macross) was an avid Gundam fan who later designed both the GP01 and GP02 for Stardust Memory. If only there were AI voices for Macross characters, it'd be nice to have Hikaru and the rest of the Skull Squadron do a tier list on every Macross series. Kai farting at the end of the War in the Pocket segment caught me off guard. XD
Funny enough, the original Macross is my all-time favorite anime. And even though I respect Robotech, I actually am a bigger fan of the uncut ADV dub of the original Japanese series. So I suppose I could actually try and work with that if I can get enough clean samples.
Seems we've got two things in common! Having SDFM as our favorite anime and preferring ADV's dub over Robotech. Hopefully obtaining crisp samples of the ADV voices won't be too difficult.
1:25:14 *_THAT'S THE POOOIIIINT_* It's a deliberate act to undermine the Spacenoid superiority of the Zabis, or even the Zeon family themselves. It's to show that Newtypes are not "Space adapted people" and that understanding can bloom in any human heart and all that. Plus, Uso was showing newtype potential loooong before he went to space in Victory.
@@Retroroboboy Good to hear it. Great video by the way. I'm not thrilled by ZZ being as low as it is but it's your list, not mine. Also F91 is a mess but it's a really pretty mess.
Tomino was off working on CCA when ZZ started production, and didn't join ZZ's production until halfway into its broadcast. This explains the tonal shift and the generally perceived improvement in the second half of the show.
@@RetroroboboyAs well in Which is part of the Gundam universe but non-Cannon there is actually a clone of Char in it and he is actually one but with the memories of char but in actually good away
1:08:35 I disagree. Quess is written just fine. Sometimes a character *Should* be unlikable. Nina is rushed, but I can kinda see what they were going for. Blue haired girl angry because her dad has a mistress is well trodden ground, definitely not trodden by gundam. Absolutely not, and I do not have a newtype threatening me as I type this sentence.
Currently catching up on all the series! I don’t think I’ll have the same cast come back, considering they are not featured in those respective series. So it will most likely be a mixed cast from different entries. Maybe Captain Bright will come back to moderate, or perhaps there will be some cameos. You will just have to wait and see 😉
The character artist for Gundam 0080, Haruhiko Mikimoto, also worked on Tottoi aka The Secret of the Seal. Which is an anime I loved and watched over and over as a kid.
Since you've established that Bright likes Judau, I hope to see him meet Garrod. Main issue with that is, no dub to steal a voice from. I'd just say "Fuckit" and either try to use the JP-to-Eng AI, or super fucking and use Duo's voice because X WOULD have been dubbed in Canada if it got dubbed, and that means Scott McNeill's duo voice is the best pick.
to be fair for Captain Bright...well i guess hopeful, not fair. The 8th MS Team Anime had quite the uh...umm...*clear throat* "scene" that wasn't in the book, or so i hear. So it's quite possible the anime ends differently.
I have two sequels planned for this video, but I’ve never thought about them reviewing stuff outside of Gundam. Perhaps I will consider it now though :)
@@Retroroboboy I had no idea the original was in netflix. I tried to watch gundam before but someone recommended me f91 as my first gundam. I have never been so confused with so many stuff happening at the same time and with such a fast pace too. lol.
they removed char and amuro from zz to make a giant fan service in the film cca, they were allies and had the same ideals, and it don't make sense to char leave haman after what she done with Minerva
I am currently making my way through the alternate universe titles! However, I will most likely have a mixed cast from some of the other series (wing, g, seed, etc.) do a tier list. I might bring back captain bright. We’ll just have to wait and see ;)
You should do one where all 4 of them rate other Gundam series/movies. Also G-Savior should have been in its own tier by itself. It was disowned by its parent company almost as fast as Toho disowning the 1998 American Godzilla movie.
I am currently working on 2 sequels to this video! There’s a lot more golden material to cover. And mentioning G-Savior was honestly more just a meme, but I agree, it shouldn’t be seriously considered as part of the greater lore. Tomino wasn’t even aware of it’s production lol.
I watched all of these. But if nothing else despite the faults, each of them have, the first two Gundam series as far as I’m concerned I think should be ranked S and double Zeta should be ranked B
I recently re-watched the original series and movie trilogy after not seeing them for years, and I definitely will bump them up on the list whenever I make a part two. At the very least the movie trilogy, it has aged pretty damn well. I should probably rewatch Zeta and ZZ again for the same reason. however, ranking Zaida as a 9/10 (a tier) and ZZ as a 7/10 (C tier) is still pretty good imo.
This video....mixed feelings about it. Most of the rankings are pretty sound. It should have 0087 Green Divers, because that's available now. I get that you don't want to put in the other ride cut scene stuff, because it's not readily available. Origin and Thunderbolt are good, but definitely Alt-UC. They kinda fit if you want them to fit. I certainly don't hate them though. Origin is very much Yas' reaction to how Newtype-y stuff post-Axis Shock it's gotten. Stardust Memory is probably too low. I hate Nina too, but Cima makes up for it (especially when you add in her backstory in Mayfly of Space). Twilight Axis is C tier not D tier. There's good continuity with stuff from 0080, ZZ, CCA and F-91 for something that's less than 30 minutes long. It's just too short and presented in a way that most aren't into. Unicorn is rated a bit too high. Laplace's Box is one of the worst macguffins around. It's built up and really doesn't make sense if you think about it. The animation is top tier. Bright is always good to see and the production quality was really high. But Banagher is boring and making Full Frontal a literal Char clone was too 4th wall breaking for me, and then that ending is...yeah. Hathaway's Flash is impressive visually. There's a few shots in it that are actually photorealistic when the characters aren't in them. The mecha are ancillary to Hathaway and the story is Tomino's attempt to commentate on terrorism (as it was in 1989-90). The biggest mistake was not using Mikimoto's character designs. His style is so iconic that it's a crime they weren't used. The banter is decent between the four characters when actually reviewing the shows. It goes off into some serious millennial fanboy cringe dialogue though when they start randomly swearing and insulting each other. Keep them in character rather than letting them degenerate into the meme versions of their characters. Overall, not a bad review/tier list.
Unicorn literally follows the " Le attack in space colony, amazing newtype teen gets in gundam, le drafted into war, they go to earth for convoluted reasons, then return to space to finish the show for convoluted reasons!" trope that had been used 4 or 5 times by that point in the UC alone. I don't get why it's always rated so highly. The pseudo intellectual dialogue was insufferable as well. Also the unicorn transforming animation is cool and all, but literally every single episode relies on it solely for the "wow, le epic!" moment and it gets very tiresome.
And I do love Zeta but it does go on for a bit too long. The mech designs are by Mamoru Nagano who then did Five Star Stories. You can totally see the same style when you read FSS. It is incomplete by itself though and the ending isn't great by itself. I do agree that an A is right. Double Zeta is actually quite good after the first half and I actually like Judo better than Kamiel. Plus the Double Zeta is one of the most powerful mechs ever made in the series. I also really like the short that shows Judo out by Jupiter later on and of course he shows up as a much older man in a later manga. What really annoys me the most out of all the UC stuff is how Sayla is just kind of tossed off to the wayside. We see her once in Zeta and then at the end of Double Zeta and that's it. What? It's just a waste of a character.
41:16 I still very much disagree with this. Even with Nana's stupid ass love triangle this show slaps. It does more to get me on Zeon's side than 0080. You can't show my one good Zeon pilot and tell me that that makes them good. But show some warcrimes on the Feddy side and now I'm reconsidering.
I actually like the original's pacing. All of modern media is too fast paced. Whatever happened to giving actors time to act and to explore a world? Not everything needs to be instant gratification
I kind of agree with you, but I would still argue that 7 hours is more than enough runtime to tell the story. The other 13 hours of content that was cut is a lot of “monster of the week“ type one-off side battles and a shit load of recycled animation. There are a few episodes that are some of my favorites that sadlyfortunately were cut. But I still think that the final product is easier to digest when consumed as a movie trilogy. Especially for newcomers who might not be that into retro anime like myself.
No, these are the voices used in the original English dub on Toonami. Also, the same voices heard in the dub of Chars Counterattack, as well as the PlayStation 2 games and dynasty warrior games.
0083 Stardust Memory would have been an S tier if it was just about Kieth and Mora but since it’s not it’s mid. Can’t believe Gundam did the “big strong amazon x short king” trope decades before it got popular on twitter
It hurt me to put it as low as I did, but honestly, it does not hit the same the second time around. The art is so beautiful and the music is so damn good that it tricks you into overlooking just how shit some of the the characters are.
That’s what I was referring to when I mentioned the history of mobile suits in the timeline. If you cleaned up a few details here and there, then it’s pretty much perfect. They could’ve easily replaced all those scenes with other vehicles, and it wouldn’t change a thing. But I think that Yas was too attached to the mecha aesthetic and decided to take artistic liberties with his own adaptation.
This was pretty Great! Although I am weary of Using AI, for voices but this was pretty dang entertaining! It was done in good fun. You may have gone a little too far in a few places, a little cringy, Buuuut If i can't handle a little cring I wouldn't be a Gundam Fan now would I? Overall, a very well thought out and comprehensive retrospective and analysis of the UC Gundam series. Gundam is Very near and dear to me. I have been a Gundam fan since Gundam Wing on Toonami all those years ago. I was the perfect age for that Jam! I do agree on most of your ratings. I would Rank 0083 a bit higher and ZZ to me, should be bottom tier. I was surprised at the Zeta Comp movies. I never really thought of them like that, then again I never watched them with such scrutiny. I think I watched them twice each then banished them to the DVD shelf to collect dust. And i am surprised to hear another Gundam Fan say Zeta is over hyped! Don't get me wrong, ITS GOOD! but everyone praises it to no end.
@@Retroroboboy I mean, Ideally they talk about UC, but you already did UC. And I was thinking Mikazuki, Domon, and Suletta for some hard extremes. The cold operator, the shonen boy, and the cinnamon roll who has a dark side you don't want to nurture.
I'd put the Origin into A if only for the character work on Char. They made him a sociopathic evil genius when he really isn't that smart. He just takes advantages of opportunities, he doesn't plan out his actions which is why he loses to amuro so often. Aside from that and Ramba being changed to be more loyal to the Zabis rather than just Zeon in general, I liked Origin a lot.
I agree that the characterization and interpretation of the characters were a little off, but I think from a production value standpoint it still was enough to push it up for me. And I really wouldn’t mind a full origin adaptation being accepted as a new “canon” entry for a newer audience wanting to start at the “beginning”. But I highly doubt it’s ever going to happen.
Hey use the uc chatacters to rank future century era gundam shows g-gundam,gundam wing and gundam x including seed. Seed is the worst in the series. Gundam wing is the greatest series ever.
main point of disagreement, ZZ gundam. Watching it week to week or month to month right after Z Gundam, as I did, it was awful. I keep trying to go back and give it a rewatch, and just left flat by all the goofiness and idiot-ball decisions that persist through the entire show. The "love story" between Judau and Haman is intensely bad, Emary Ounce is just painful to watch. The best parts are after the show gets back on track (strike ends) and they start giving us some remade episodes of 0079 :p Some of the mecha design is impressive, but having to watch ZZ combine is just a continual reminder of how stupid it's transformation sequence is, throwing me right out into the super robot genre again.
I can respect that. Admittedly, it’s been several years since I watched it and I did watch it over the course of a few weeks on Blu-ray. I definitely think it could’ve benefited from a movie trilogy treatment to trim some of the silliness out. ESPECIALLY the moon-moon colony episode. That concept was so stupid lol
"Master (Super) Asia, Zechs Marquise, Graham Aker, and Orga Itsuka tier Gundam AU's"? Or maybe it would be more fun to keep the characters all from the same show.
I definitely plan to switch up characters. However, I think if I had to keep one for consistency, I would probably choose Captain Bright as the moderator. I can’t explain why, but his stoic voice is so funny to me. Also, I plan to make a part 2 of the universal century tier list, so there will be more opportunities for the boys to return.
I am currently working on 2 sequels to this video! Unfortunately, it takes awhile to catch up and watch EVERY series back to back lol. The next one should be out by november!
