I mean, this is Call of Cthulhu so there's a solid 85% chance this series is going to end with Lucille finding out she has Deep One ancestry and is doomed to mutate into a grotesque frog-fish abomination that worships a dark, ancient god that was forgotten before mankind's ancestors came down from the trees.
For my character, the reason he's investigating was he got a mail that said "Ur mom gay -Cthulhu". I was disproportionately proud of that. He was a fun character until he threw a bomb and misjudged the blast zone, blowing himself to smithereens to kill the cult leader.
Would like to add something about prisoner's dilema. The optimal strategy for the two prisoners is to not backstab each other. Because if they both do it to each other, they both get punished for it. But if only one of them does it, he/she is rewarded and the other one is punished. But if neither one does any backstabbing, they both either get rewarded or not punished.
You didn’t acually make a point you just explained the game, let’s take a look at the scenarios BETRAYAL 1.) you betray the other prisoner but you don’t get betrayed, you get off Scott free 2.) you betray the other prisoner but he also betrays you so you both get a half sentence (or full sentance in some variations of the story) [keep in mind many view this either way as better than scenario 4] LOYALTY 3.) you choose to be loyal and so does he, you’re free 4.) you choose to be loyal but he doesn’t you go to jail and were betrayed You can see that each scenario you choose has an equal chance of occurring but many view the downsides of betrayal as supiorior to the downside of loyalty because why should you go to jail for staying loyal when the backstabber went free in the loyalty scenario, also the good sides are the exact same
I do like how you set up the characters. I like that Lucile was watching forlorn at the window because she thought her best friend, who she pushes around a bit too much, was going to leave... but when he turned up she acts like she knew he wasn't really going to leave. I can honestly imagine a book or television series with these characters (well, except Rosalind, she feels like a one episode character)
Thanks for making this series, I´m buying the core book this monday because you woke my curiosity, I just can not wait to start reading. PD, I´m also curious about your accent, where are you from? Greetings from Spain.
My character is a Belgian psychiatrist that treated shellshocked soldiers in WW1 and became a specialist on fear and fear-induced responses, currently teaching at an American university. He thinks of himself as a staunch catholic, but in reality his faith is dwindling and deep down, he fears God is ultimately a being of Evil. His first contact with the Mythos was from a couple of irrecoverable patients that returned from the Yser front talking about unspeakable things he couldn't just forget. His own wife was affected by the German occupation and ended in a sanatorium, where she was treated badly and experimented upon. Learning this, my character sneaked her out of the Sanatorium and started taking care of her at home, but her hallucinations resembled too much the hallucinating soldiers he treated years ago... an impossible coincidence, impossible to ignore.
How about a 50 years old alchoholic german miner that mined coal but got fired because he was a socialist syndicate activist. Now he's pretty much a beggar, accepting any job you might offer, and he is often tasked with dirty work. He is also responsible for a dynamite explosion where he tried to "stick it to the capitalists" as a revenge, and thus on the run.
Aw, not doing Voice Jokes anymore? Because you're the voice I've been missing for so long. :) Also thank you, you're my biggest inspiration for running my own CoC 7e. I'm currently building a campaign for an Alternate Universe Bioshock being run with CoC 7e and using a bit of a CoC vibe. And by a bit, I mean a lot.
Heh. I'll be honest, as an aspiring Keeper that has had these books for months, I find these guides for players will also help me out as a Keeper. :P Especially because of this one character that was rolled up (also months ago) that should be a butler, but was former military (give or take historical liberties). Otis, whom in our minds as players and Keeper (we discussed these characters together) looks a bit like the late great Michael Clarke Duncan. He was connected to another player's character via that character being *extremely* wealthy, well-educated, and at least in his late fifties as a college professor of world history.
I wish! LOL! No, I only do the animation and graphic design. The characters are illustrated by other more talented artist friends of mine. You can find their names in the credit screen.
Here's my idea for a character. Dirk Tanner, a rising star in the golden age of Hollywood he's drawn into learning the truth of mythos cults after his fiancée was sent to an insane asylum after she looked at the second half of a script based on "The King in Yellow". He'd have some fighting skill from mostly appearing in swashbucklers and westerns and some personal skills based on his childhood on a farm in Nebraska.
I like it. He won't be much useful for undercover work, but his celebrity status might open some doors for him. He seems like a fun character to roleplay.
I'm so happy I found this channel! You make getting into trpgs less intimadating. I also got really attached to these investigators, I want to see more of them in action, lol
15:57 Any other place I've checked has said that the amount of personal interest skill points is INT x 10... Which is insane! I tried this method, rolled an INT of 80 which meant 800 skill points - the investigator is best at everything at that point! INT x 2 makes much more sense so thanks for that much-needed bit of info!
Well it seems like you could just build a high sanity, poor intelligence, meh education and good physicals tank who is just so dumb they can’t realize the true horror of all the monsters they’re encountering.
The more I see on this game. The more I want to try it, but sadly no one around here plays the game. I think I would like to play a character that is Age 28 and is a newly promoted Fire Investigator for the city's organized firefighter department. The task to search the cause of fires and hunt down arsonists. He would always carry around a fire axe and a crowbar with him with a powerful industrial flashlight.
Hi CJ, I suggest using other ways to shorten the link or replacing the ones in the description, these seem to lead to some, uhh, weird things. I was not sure how to contact you, if someone has FB or twitter maybe the message could reach him sooner.
just finished my first session. we did some session that from the sounds of it is something like a "hazing" for Call of Cthulhu players : the corbitt house, with 3 players and the GM. one of our guys got arrested for attempting to break into the police station (and punching a cop out). i got hit hard enough i needed to use luck to not die outright to an extreme hit (7 hp cap vs the possessed knife) and my teammate damn near left me for dead. we both got out, but only barely. my dodge rating of 89 didn't help nearly as much as i expected it to
So if I make an federal agent, it just says he has firearms, does that mean he had the base proficiency with all firearms, or do I pick one and specialize?
Lucile's a fishgirl?!? Never would've seen that coming lol Also "his?" 3:10 Either a slip of the tongue or intensional trap lol I'm good with either. Scott's in for a surprise if it's the later
I played Call of Cthulhu for the first time (a one-shot to introduce new players, so it was l, most likely easye but so fun!!) tonight with a premade character and killed a demon and ahhh I'm still full of adrenaline 🤩. Now I know how I want to create my character and I'm ready to play again ❤❤
Im trying to make a character named Evelyn Starborn, a yound woman that is an artist specialised in macabre art, and became curious by the mythos abd wants to use it to improve her art. A tad reckless because of her artistic drive, I hope she'll be an interesting chara Edit: so ive had my first round with her and one of the party members nearly got murdered by bed. yeah... It was fun tho
This series is so high quality! Thank you for doing this, it's already helped me and a group understand the rules of CoC a lot better. Keep up the great work!
For some reason I thought I was super late to discovering this, but turns out I found it at just the right time to get past all the basics and character creation! Wooo!
I wonder if an alcohol wasted bum is an occupation lol Like they would one day be tracked down and recruited to the cause of tracking down and put an end to the horror if possible lol
I had 3 Idea for investigators if I ever get the chance to play this. 1. A Red or White Russian Psychiatrist/Hypnotist 2. A German racecar Driver turned Automotive Manufacturer 3. A Stereotypical Ridge Runner
How do your skills effect rolls? Like in regular DnD a if I have high strength I get modifiers to strength checks. How does that work with Call of Cthulhu rpg?
What is didn't understand is: When one distributes the skill points, does that include the EDU, based on the Education After the Age modifiers or before?
Hey! Im going to make a character in the channeler class for a future campaign, the abilaties are clearly described and easy to follow, but one stands out as being really vague, the level 18 abilaty, soul burst.what does this abilaty actually do? It just says that I can enhance my attack with soul dice once per turn, but isn't that just the empowering strike abilaty then? I'm really confused
To put it simply, it means that you get one free soul dice to add to the damage you deal per turn. The free soul dice cannot be used for other purposes.
