at pinch off region, if the path of current is blocked how is there current (Id) still flowing ?

When vgs is 0 and vds is increased to saturate the n channel, id is at its maximum current, idss. Fully on. When you make vgs more negative, or reverse bias, the depletion region increases the n channel narrow and cut off ,pinch off the n channel to 0 current. I don't know if this explanation helps you. This is how I inderstand how it functions.

as far as I understand, at pinch off the channel is not closed entirely, but width is reduced to the maximum extent such that current will still flow but at a constant rate. The closing of channel is prevented by the capacitive effect.
