As with most makers, im sure, no matter the medium, I can not get rid of scraps. This huge chunk of Hawaiian Monkey Pod that I had left over from cutting up some slabs to make my wood/epoxy resin boards, was just SCREAMING at me to be turned into something beautiful. So using the shape I was given to work with, I created this beautiful, bookmatched, teardrop shaped Charcuterie Board, and I couldnt be happier with the results.

Absolutely beautiful!! I was fortunate to have been stationed at Marine Barracks, Honolulu for 5 years (1958-1963) and loved the culture, the people, and the island in general. Unfortunately, my only other stops in Hawaii were on my way to Viet Nam! (1955-66 & 1969-70)

Hey, thank you. It’s medium black from star bond that I fill with then hit twitch the accelerator and it dries ready to sand in about a minute

Absolutely. It’s star one medium black with Star one accelerator. I use it on every board to fill small holes and such.

Is monkeypod a type of wood? I thought that was what the serving trays were called that have hollowed out bowl shapes in them.

Regenea Garland yes, monkey pod is the name of the wood. It’s originally from central and South America and goes by the name Samanea Saman, but it has since traveled around the world. It grows all over the islands of Hawaii and the grain pattern that develops in the species by being in the islands is this amazing banded contrast of lights and darks. I love working with it.

Hey. This is a song that I got off of epidemic sound. I have a subscription to them for thousands of fully licensed music so that I can’t get flagged for using it. It’s great. $15 bucks a month and they have sound effects too.
