Humm, that looks 10k times better. 1 caveat to it is the side at the fender has open space to the engine area, perhaps banks ment to use the original parts for the air box to seal up that area to the engine bay. But because it had been removed for the chineseam hot air intake its gone unless the customer still has it. Me i would save stock parts so when i sold the truck i could put them back on the reason is dealers look past aftermarket parts, places like carmax go so far as to remove them. The banks air intake cost ??? Dollars you will never get that back when you trade in the car. That goes for almost any aftermarket upgrades. You can look in Kelly bluebook or NADA and no place will it say aftermarket parts, the dealer bids by the book on value . Trust me they won't give any extra money on it yes wheels but not the 3k you paid for the Dayton's with knock offs. When they sell it they do charge extra. You see a 1988 caprice classic book is 300 but it has a paint job, all gold Dayton's and hydrlic's your paying 5k for it.

@RainmanRaysRepairs I don't see how you did your customer wrong. You did what you were told to do you even provided some hardware to help make the install work. And you were paid for your efforts. With your logic have you done your customers wrong when you have provided them with out of the ordinary repairs to help make the vehicle functional until a proper repair solution can be afforded? Example the Subaru with the rusty crusty exhaust that you welded up. Don't beat yourself up too many people who will do that for you.

I installed a BANkS air filter/snorkel tube from intake to air filter for a paying customer on a 2014 jeep W/J Aka jeep Rubicon, The included airbox and all supplied parts fit well. We test drove it and it had a nice performance sound. But when we hooked up my scan tool to read live data, we noticed the intake air temps were 15 degrees hotter than the OEM air intake setup. We switched them back and forth between stock and BANKS. Same results each time. Total waste of money! The stoc,k intake box takes in cold air on front of the radiatiator. The BANKS airbox sucks in hot underhood air which makes no sense. The aftermarket junk promises big gains but is very very poorly designed.

As an experienced tech, you can only inform the customer as best you can. Sometimes they listen, sometimes they don't. If they don't listen, wash your hands of the situation. In this instance, they get an upgrade. That's a lucky customer.

I have a 2013 GMC SIERRA and I added just the pipe from the stock air box to the throttle body. Works great, still pulls air from the inner fender. I spent about $75 instead of a $400 kit.

You think that the customer will be so pleased with that air intake system. You mentioned a pedal controller. Once that is on, GUARANTEED, the customer will be tickled pink. I was very skeptical about putting one on my vehicle but I did, and whoa mama, the vehicle is a beast. And for only $350, it was the best and cheapest mod that actually did something.

I installed a Monster Ram, Pedal Monster, 5" Monster exhaust, Monster Air Box, rear dif cover, and iDash in my 2012 Ram with the 6.7 Cummins. Well worth the money. I kept it emissions compliant and added a bunch of performance. I highly recommend Banks.

For over a decade when looking to upgrade an air intake system for turbo or super charged 4 cylinders and V6's I have often used gasoline V8 and Truck 1 Ton Diesel air boxes and paper filters. I would get the air boxes from junk yards. I played around with K&N filters in the 1990's and was never keen on how hit and mis they where in keeping dust and dirt out unless you ran the foam pre-filter wrap on them.

Great work Ray. I use to have a V6 Commodore VT 3800 and I changed the air filter to K & N high flow .I found it made the car run better. No power gains. It just felt better.

Hi Ray. I refurbished a 22 year old Citroen for someone recently. Recon gearbox, clutch, tyres, brakes, driveshafts, the works. Did it make financial sense? Nope. But the car reminded the owner of happy times with her uncle (she inherited it) so who was I or anyone else to judge what she spent her own money on. She’s extremely happy her uncles car has a new lease of life. Same with that truck. If the owner wants to spend money on it and it ,ales them happy, it’s no one else’s business or concern.

@@scottzehrung4829 My 64ss impla i had in high-school in the 70s with a big block that made a 350 look like a toy motor sounded even louder. I still to this day dont know what motor that was but it was very large and filled the engine bay on the 64ss it had bucket seats and a console but an automatic transmission. I hit a datsun station wagon with it Scuffed my chrome bumper tore the side off the datsun 510. Peeled the metal back like a can opener. Back then you could hit a car with your fist as hard as you could and you would not put a dent in it. Do that to a modern car you'll total it. Well that area anyway. Its ok you can push the dent back out from behind.

In my years in the motor trade I tried to teach people as with all modifications you lose something if it’s cold weather running you don’t need it in Florida but you do in Alaska, all modifications are adapting the car to suit individual circumstances .

Well you informed the customer to the best of your ability, you did your part! I haven't seen the previous video yet so I don't know if you've done any testing, however what I typically do prior to intake modifications is to get everything to temp and go for a drive to obtain data regarding charge temp and manifold vac/pressure for highway cruise, highway WOT (overtaking situation) and low speed WOT. This way I can repeat the same testing afterwards to verify improvements. About 12 years ago I fitted under headlight and over radiator snorkels from the turbo model to my car, used intake plumbing from the same engine but a different model (different routing) and i managed to drop 5c on the highway, 10-15c around town, and improved manifold absolute pressure across the board. All in all it improved throttle response, slightly improved fuel economy, and everything looked factory so highway patrol had nothing to cry about! For context, car modification is considered more heinous of a crime here in Australia than theft, assault, or worker exploitation...

15:01 yep. Didn’t do that, and just put it together., impatiently one time. Thought my Camaro was possessed on startup, because the MAF was in backwards. I don’t think Banks has one for the LFX that I saw when shopping, but I have a K&N currently. Clips on factory setup were broken.

It is always great to watch you and learn. I am a “farm boy” who grew up having had to work on just about everything we had (old stuff now) and still repair mostly old Ford tractors for fun. "use stainless steels screws otherwise rust", or something similar. While leaving the old holes of the self-tapping screws/ bare metal unprotected haha :D But the new filter/housing does look 1000 times better and most likely much more efficient/less restrictive than the old one.

To retrieve that washer you didn't use your handy-dandy telescoping magnet? I got mine as a bonus when I bought a dropped tool and fastener retrieval jaw. I bought the kit at Harbor Freight (not a plug) and was literally astounded at the utility of the telescoping magnet when I used it to retrieve a dropped bolt and washer in the bowels of my 1993 F250 7.3 IDI pickup truck. I'm older and I came to the conclusion after my first use of the telescoping (very strong) magnet that that simple yet powerful magnetized retriever was one of the greatest tools I ever bought (in this case entirely unwittingly). I've been working on my own vehicles for 50 years.
