I’m familiar with this area. Driving across the lanes of traffic into a shopping area would be a difficult trick. He must have been VERY DRUNK.

There's plenty of laws restricting driving drunk or otherwise impaired. What the gun psychos ignore is that cars are not primarily designed for killing. Guns are. So when a gun psycho kills they're using the weapon for its primary purpose. When a drunk runs into a salon, they're not using the vehicle as intended.

@@davidg3944you’re leaving out the huge factor of intent. People use guns to kill to murder, or kill to defend using guns. People use cars with the intent of transportation. Load in explosives and the intent becomes murder. You’re not wrong though, guns are absolutely meant to destroy life, though the intent behind every trigger pull vastly ranges.

@ddanj0331 somebody who is driving drunk or dangerously is knowingly taking an action likely to result in harming or killing other people. SUVs and new model pickups are designed to kill people they hit. Look at where their bumpers and grilles align with human bodies.

@deadname... Yes, like physically limiting the speed a car can go; requiring ignition interlocks on all vehicles; requiring more driver training and harder driver testing; and punishing drunk and reckless drivers as though they were doing the same thing with a firearm.

Absolutely horrible. Imagine having a relaxing pampering session and have a drunk slams into and thats the end. Rest in Peace to those lost their lives and i Hope the rest can recover. As for the driver I hope they spend the rest of their life in Jail. There is absolutely NO excuse when you can get an uber these days.

North America has very lenient penalty for DUI drivers who caused death, life-threatening injuries such as amputated limbs or blindness, to innocent bystanders /public. The laws should be changed, especially for repeat offenders. So much addiction to alcohol or drugs or sins of the flesh; brings sad & horrific consequences to families and individuals😢

More vehicle violence? We need more vehicle saftey laws. Was he driving an "assault" vehicle? All vehicles need alcohol testing devices to prevent impaired drivers. What difference does it make that an off duty cop was killed?

Since New York allows people to sue gun manufacturers and dealers when someone uses one of their products illegally, will the victim's families of this this drunk driver be able to sue the vehicle manufacturer and dealership for someone using their product illegally, or whomever made the alcohol he was drinking and whomever sold it to him?

@PuppyMonsters yes, yes they should, then maybe car manufacturers will voluntarily install ignition interlocks on every car, along with speed governors, and "crash avoidance" systems that actually trigger braking. They can shift the body style of vehicles back to the way they used to be, where they collide with a victim's legs instead of their torso or head. Thanks for acknowledging that this guy was using his car as a weapon!
