A flooded site with the chargers still working is great free advertising for Tesla by media. The main stream media appear, for some reason, to want Tesla to fail. I think it might be because there are no advertising bucks for them. By the way, I've hired a Tesla model 3 from Hertz this weekend to try in out, it's amazing and IMO, a really good deal at £235 including insurance for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There is a generous mileage allowance of 900 over the 3 days. A seamless transaction and excellent info emails from them explaining all I need to know about the car. Superb customer service at pickup too and no sales pressure for 'extras'. A superb experience so far 👍
The anti-EV rhetoric across the World is just undeliverable. This is the future, and I just wish I was 40 years younger and could have owned an EV. The closest I will get now at age 73 is the Tesla mobile phone hi.

I used a Tesla charger for the first time in France last week. This was on a long haul to see family in Switzerland. It worked fine on the e-Niro but the CCS connecter need a bit more of a shove when plugging in but I had been warned about this by a friend here who has a Hyundai and noticed that the 'old' CCS socket is a bit tight with newer CCS plugs. UK seems very expensive, here in France Tesla charge €0.59 kWh which at current exchange rates is about £0.52. Our 1,750 km round trip was so much easier than it was 4 years ago when we first got the car. There are lots of chargers on the autoroutes now with Ionity, Engie, Fastned, Total Energies and Tesla all competing for business. Most stopping places seem to have a choice of two suppliers and for the first time I saw prices up on a big board (Engie) just like petrol and diesel have.
Thank you for this video. I have the Ioniq 30.5/28.2kWh 2019 model and I could NOT get it to charge on a Tesla SuC. Reason completely unknown. It charges on any other CCS charger (with up to 67kW@75%SoC from 60kW@20%SoC. Calling neither Tesla Helddesk nor Hyundai Helpdesk would remedy that. I tried several timea to no avail. It simply wouldn’t do anything (using the app obviously). I’ve had similar problems with FastNed in the beginning: for that it appears that the order of usinf the app and plugging thr cable is critical. I now use auto-charge on FastNed, simply driving up, plugging the cable in and that’s all. Nothing else to do once properly setup. Inexpected a similar experience from Tesla, having friends with Tesla Model 3’s showing me. One crucial difference I noticed on your video: you first click the charge now button and then connect the cable. I am not sure I have actually tried that exactly, so will go back one day to the SuC and try again. Would be nice if it worked (but I doubt it: Tesla Helpdeks had two models listed at the time that wouldn’t work, the Ioniq 28kWh and the Peugeot e-208…). Note: tried in NL, where I am located and the first SuC in EU were opened for non-Tesla’s.

Yes certainly. However, in a video coming in a couple of weeks on the channel, I did experience a faulty Tesla Supercharger recently. It still worked, but was limited to 34kW output. Its extremely rare for a Tesla Supercharger to be faulty.
I have the same ioniq and the problem is with V3 supercharger. Here you are on a V2. The V3 connector is different and goes into the light. It never worked for me on a V3, either the connector is not going in blocked by the light, or it's just going in by a milimeter but is too bent to make a good connection.
I did think of this after filming this, that it may have been a V3. So much to think about when filming these videos, your mind goes blank as it can't cope with the multitasking! ....another video coming then.
cables are super short here. Had to park my Zoe a slight angle to get it to fit 😂 still in the spot though but worked out all ok. pulled up at Banbury today and used the Tesla ones there,cables were much longer which was nice.
I think the cables are the same length on a Tesla Supercharger. It depends on where the stall is sited. At Banbury 10 are on the kerb and the other 2 in the parking bay, so you're much closer to them.

Thanks for your report here. I have tried to use Tesla Chargers also here in Austria on a V3 stall and I have found the issue with the plug colliding with the charge port's LED bracket. Seems there are CCS style connectors used at Tesla that have a hump which makes it almost impossible to plug it all the way in. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures or a video.
In the meantime I found that Tesla has two different styles of CCS plugs. V2 SC, no hump, no problem, the V3 I tried had plugs with hump, so not possible to charge. I‘ve modified the LED bracked now with a heated up piece of 50mm steelpipe until the plugs hump slipped underneath it.
I'm literally crying because of the headache that my occasion Hyundai Ioniq (2020) 38 KW gives me. It refuses to charge at any thing.. so while the dealer where I bought it charged it, I can't charge it at all and I dropped it off at the hyundai dealership today.. Any charging station I put it in, it runs for 1 minute, then it says " Schedule completed" with 0 kw charged. OR at a charging station such as tesla it also gives an error " payment issue " (While I know my card is correctly linked and authorized and there's more than enough money in the account) or it gives " Vehicle status issue." with no additional information. the internal car diagnostics says everything works fine. Paid nearly a 2 year salary for this car, and it's only given me headaches so far :(
I doubt anything is wrong with the car. Its sounds more like user error with the chargers. When using a Tesla Supercharger, that payment error has nothing to do with the car and is your payment card/bank. Its best to use a credit card as there's pre-authorisation fees. As to the others when it says "schedule completed", is this when using DC rapid chargers or AC slow chargers? If AC, then it sounds like you have a charging schedule defined in the car. Remove this (press the EV button) or press the schedule override button on the dash.
I've got an Ionic 38KWH premium and previously had a Tesla lease, its soooo painful watching it charge at 34KW compared to the tesla's huge charging speeds 😒
Looking for a new video idea? - Just thought 10 years ago it was just the Leaf, Zoe, Model S, and BMW i3 that were the main EVs on the road then. How about an in-depth review of these vehicles this age with battery degradation and possible maintenance costs over this time? Also, cost to buy now compared to when they were new.
@@markreed9853 The Partner and Berlingo are the same van. The Nissan & Renault are completely different. Much is said about the Renault Nissan alliance when it comes to EVs, but the reality is that nothing is shared on them. They use completely different motors, batteries, cooling etc etc. Not even the 12V battery is shared!
thanks for making the video. i see from this video that you used a dirrerant cable from the tesla car cable. in the videos out of the USA its the same cable but with a big adapter that gets locked to it with the app for none teslas and the adaptor is huge. so maybe that is the type the other inoiq users are having problems with.
Yes, we have different charge ports & connectors to the USA. You use type1. While some early Asian cars and early EVs (such as Nissan Leaf, Kia Soul, early Renault Kangoo) use type1 in the UK, we use type2 for AC charging and a type2 CCS for DC charging, as well as Chademo for these same early Asian cars. Our early Tesla Model S and Model X also have a different Tesla connector too. The Model 3 & Y use CCS2 too.
I also noticed that the adapter in the video is another one than the adapter I tried and did NOT work at all. The one I tried was all black and bulkier. (located in NL). What version of SuC charger was visible in Matt’s video? V2, V3?
@@royalwork5062 These were V2 Tesla chargers in this video. One plug is CCS2, the other is the proprietary Tesla type2 for Model S/X only. That is different to the NACS plug you use in the US. Everything Tesla is so much better (apart from the short charging cables). Hyundai put the charge point on the Kona at the front, which causes untold problems. Unless there are 2 empty Tesla chargers the cable won’t reach 😤
Ive got the Powerwall App and it has charge a none Tesla i did try to see if i could set it up incase i need it but i had to be at a charger , what i dont know is how i wouls pay as i wanter to enter my bank card details but it didn't seem to be anywhere to enter them .
Hi Matt. Is this the Ioniq that got the coolant cristallization issue with "refill coolant" warning ? Do you have updates about that matter ? Is it sorted out ? And how ?
Yes it is. It has been into Hyundai for the recall where they change the coolant. So, sorted for now. Only time will tell if it will do it again. Some are reporting continued issues, but there's some doubt if the dealer did a proper flush (i.e. got the sludge out) and if they used the BSC-2 coolant, rather than the original BSC-1.
I can't remember as this was a long time ago. But looking at the Supercharging prices today, they are 41p pkWh off peak and 52p peak for non-Tesla drivers at this location. That's nearly half the price of other networks.
Tesla's charging network is great, for all of us who don't have Tesla cars. I have tried their charger for my IONIQ 38 kWh. It worked great. This summer I will travel around Central Europe and only use Tesla chargers. Another great thing about Tesla is the option to buy just one month's subscription. Too bad their open chargers don't exist in old Eastern Europe.

Given I'm a relentless tinkerer and the Mk1 to Mk2 front end looks like a mild refresh I'm wondering if the Mk2 headlamp units would fit the Mk1 front end; I do like the look of the Mk2 LED headlights, quite dark and aggressive 😎

Hi Matt Just downloaded the Tesla app and registered however a bit disappointed that the southwest ,England no coverage for non Tesla vehicles As you are a Tesla owner do you get notifications from Tesla about the opening up of their network Or can you point me to a website that has that specific information
I assume you don't mean the motor, but the charge rate. The 38kWh Ioniq does have slow DC charging, at 44kW peak. The previous generation 28kWh Ioniq was 69kW. They have a 100kW (136ps) motor.
Does no one see this as a problem, it’s bank holiday and there are less BEVs than convertibles a ratio of 1/3 there are 800,000 BEVs and 900,000 convertibles the ratio should be 1/1 . Yesterday nearly every charger I drove past was empty ( there where 3 being used out of the 24 at solstice park). On my journey yesterday I saw 45 convertibles and 18 BEVs. Very few people are driving BEVs as you can see clearly on Auto trader the average mileage of a 3 year model three is 12 to 15,000 miles less than 100 miles a week. There’s something wrong the adoption and usage of these vehicles is poor hence all the empty chargers even on a peak bank holiday weekend. With the current usage rates it will take 10 to 12 years for most uK owned BEV to recover the carbon deficit of manufacture.
I do think that EVs are more often purchased by people who do less annual mileage, but that is only because its an easy switch and if you can charge at home, they make more sense. However, seeing empty public chargers is a good thing. Many, if not most, EV drivers do not use public chargers as they can charge from home, and with the majority of EVs now doing 200-300 miles range, the requirement for public charging is getting less and less for these drivers. Our Ioniq does around 15,000 miles per year, which is more than the UK average, yet it NEVER gets charged on public chargers. But yes, adoption rates have plummeted since the Ukraine invasion sky rocketed electricity prices.
@@GoGreenAutos low mileage EVs make no sense the cost to the planet in manufacturing is at the moment 60 to 100 thousand miles. That’s all carbon dioxide released to the planet before a wheel is turned.
