My review of the MG ZS EV will be live next week!

I have had my MGZSEV for two weeks now and I cant have a home charger. But the local council has a program of installing lampost (slow) chargers and 7kw chargers spread around the borough. The y have not reached my area yet but using those down the road is easy. This might change as uptake increases but at least they have made a start and other residents can see cars charging in their street so they may put electric on the list of options next time they buy car. BTW the MG is a great low(ish) cost car. It will take a huge load of toilet rolls (if I ever find any).

Yeah somebody else mentioned lampost chargers. If they can roll them out then they seem like a good solution! Haha maybe after all of this is over I should use toilet roll capacity as a measure of how practical a car is.

I don't have a charger at home and I own a Renault Zoe ZE40, giving me 180 ish miles range. If I have to charge more than once a week it's a busy week. I had a charger installed at my in-laws, a ten minute walk off. Not a huge inconvenience, especially as, before lockdown, I'd just charge while we were visiting anyway. I find the enjoyment of ownership and the virtually eliminated cost to drive far outweighed the 20 minutes of walking a week.

Blee you could charge at home by using the three pin charger that comes with the car.Ive owned my mg zs ev for two weeks now and that is all I am using at the moment as I'm waiting for my wall box to be fitted.

Good point, parking is at a premium on my street though. How you getting on with the car?

Hi blee yes I'm loving it its a great car very good value for money .when its fully charged and I go in to the cars system if I put it in to the highest regen it's giving me 175 Miles of range.I have solar panels on the house roof so I charge for free during daylight hours.Ive not used public charging stations yet.The car is very well built and its got lots of kit built in.This is my second chinese MG, the first one was an MG6 Magnette which I bought new in 2013 and that was a lovely car which I kept for four years and had no issues with it what so ever.

@@grahamtoyn2912 Glad to hear it. The solar panels sound like a good shout! I enjoyed my time with the car, like you say it's well built, has plenty of kit and is good value for money.

Is MG still giving /fitting free home chargers. ?

Great video. Concerning owning an EV without a home charger, surely the answer is peer-to-peer destination charger sharing? The infrastructure will be massively increased, EV drivers can pre-book parking with charging on their journeys and home owners make an income from sharing their charger. It's win-win.

can you see the flap open when the charging is happening?
@gramamg100

A fair appraisal. The transition is going to be at least 10 years, in that time there will be many more good quality used ev’s on the market and the infrastructure will be there. Battery’s will improve and prices will reduce. And the government will have to come up with a method of getting the taxes that ice vehicles currently pay.I do believe it’s a move for the better not only for air quality for cyclists and pedestrians but peaceful and silent. Silence is golden, as the song says.

Here in Norway there are chargers nearly everywhere now. Most shopping malls and fast food places have fast chargers outside, and som grocery stores have semi fast charging posts for customers. Been a big government led campaign for introducing EVs here the last 10years. Guess this will happen in many countries over the next couple of years.

Plus, just over £00.01p per mile on my 5p/kWh tariff. Can’t beat that with petrol or diesel. Pollution is the biggest problem with carbon burning vehicles, not just Co2. Everything that applies to electric cars is same for petrol etc. Range, less miles in winter/bad weather.
@olliepage6968
@olliepage6968 4 года назад
What's the running cost efficiency like when comparing the price of petrol (or diesel) to electricity? I guess EVs are roads tax exempt, but what would an MOT look like for an EV would you have to find a specialist garage which could be miles and miles away?
@grahamtoyn2912
@grahamtoyn2912 4 года назад
Ollie page. You wouldn't need specialist mot centres because an electric car is still a car at the end of the day the only difference being the propulsion method.
@olliepage6968
@olliepage6968 4 года назад
Graham Toyn good point! A car is a car for sure but would there not need to be specific tests for the electrics which might require specialists?

I've had EV's for 3 years, first a Leaf 30 and now an MG ZS EV. ATM I cannot home charge so having similar issues, but for me , no problem. I charge at a local supermarket when I am shopping, I have 4 chargers there which are free, and 4 Rapid chargers in the same Locale, so I have no problem at all. Sorry, your 'what ifs' are the usual FUD, ....what if they are putting in more chargers as we speak?

Slow chargers below 11kw could be installed in huge numbers in 6 months , if Tesla can install thousands , gov could do it easily , ps your not supposed to leave your car when on fast chargers

Nigel Weir Hmm, will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Ah, I wasn’t aware of that!
@timaustin2000
@timaustin2000 4 года назад
I'm in agreement with Nigel - installing simple 7kw posts on streets is a fairly simple job. The power is already there with the lines feeding street lights all you need to do is dig to them and connect up. £10k and you could do a street.

H2 would allow saving the planet without the lengthy charging and also works for bigger vehicles. Countries should just force construction of H2 stations to break the chicken and egg cycle around it.

Excuse the ignorance but are you talking about hydrogen vehicles? If so they look like great alternatives, just a shame manufacturers don't seem to be getting behind them as much as BEVs.

Your comments don’t hold water. Range check v fuel same as for petrol cars. Also, more cars means more chargers and as cars get longer ranges there’s less need for publics but there’s lots and lots getting installed each month. All Tesco stores now planned, McD’s all planned etc etc. I know lots without home chargers and charging public chargers once or twice a week easily. Tech changing fast, as well as costs and models

I've owned my MG ZS EV since 1st Mar and in 3 weeks prior to lockdown I've driven over 1000 miles and love the car as it puts the fun back into driving (instant torque). I have a home charger but if you're in a position of not being able to have one this should not put you off. Cost of home chargers are hugely variable from £299 (I paid £688 for a zappi v2 included discount of £500 gov grant). Your error on the polar charger is a know issue see this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4KWkBUdHtPM.html.
