A lot of people have asked for me to do a tier list of the FFXIV legendary fish. So here it is. All 2 hours, 28 minutes, and 19 seconds of it.

Little clarification/correction -- (thanks to Sleepy9013) For Signature Skyballs used in the Skysteel tools, you can access them before completing Shadowbringers! However, they are a Level 80 bait, so you will need to be Level 80 in order to use them for Opabinia. I don't think that changes the final ranking of Opabinia at all, but do want to clarify that.

The 2nd fish so far has proved elusive to the point ive given up for now lol. Thanks very much for the in-depth list. I'm at 90 mins. I'm coming back to finish later. Just time stamping where I am.

What makes Placodus infuriating is that you're usually dealing with a shortened spectral current due to point-hunters targetting executioners on the preceding route. So you might get the intuition for placodus just as the spectral closes.

Charibenet was actually my very last big fish to catch (aside from EW fish). And it was brutal xD It was honestly chill and comfortable going for it after coming early, building 10 stacks, and using makeshift bait + double hook to easily get intuition back/mooch the fish. I was just incredibly unlucky and did 40+ windows on it, which sucked a bit of the enjoyment out of it. But I do agree it's a well designed fish and the intuition didn't feel too short or anything. Now it's just snowy, whale, and gharlic left 😭

Warden of 7 hues as B tier is criminal. Its not the toughest on the list but the different ways you can go about catching it and how you can apply your fishing knowledge to catch it easier blow most of the other fish on the list out of the water.

Do you think they have a "fish guy" who knows about real-life fishing and converts that knowledge to in-game fishing at SquareEnix studio? 44:50

So the story goes that (at least in the past) yes, one of the people who actively worked on fishing stuff in game was also an avid fisher. I can't verify that but the story was that once they took Soken out into the Sea of Japan to do some fishing.

For me I'd rank them much more strongly on memorability and novelty than things like intensity. On that basis Warden and Egg and Ronka are all S tier for me. Now we need another ranking for each legend when limited to the skills that were available when they were initially released.

Most of ARR would be B/C Tier. All of HW would be A or S tier. All of SB would be A tier, with Stethacanthus being S tier, Maybe Ruby as well. Uncond might be B. ShB would be a wide spread similar to what it is now. EW would remain the same. So not a terribly large difference from what it is now minus ARR bigs.

loving the video so far, but it had me thinking of should there have been a notoriety factor as well? When I caught Ruby Dragon, I didnt feel like I was catching an A or B rank fish, I felt like I caught one of those ultra rare ones that many struggle with.

I thought about notoriety and almost included it, decided not to. For *older* fish could've been fine, but for new fish, it would've skewed things. For example, Sidereal Whale is notorious right now, but that's due in part to us getting somewhat unlucky with the windows during the opening month it's been available.

As a fisher main, how do you approach a new expansion? Do you level DoW/DoM first to get through the MSQ then start hitting the fishing holes? How does the community (FFXIV fishing sites) get their info on the fish/bait/weather etc.

skybuilder only requires beating 3.3 afaik doesn't it?

Yes! I wasn't SUPER clear on that and did fumble the unlock. While Skysteel tools *do* unlock with Patch 3.3, you can not use the bait until Lv80. My mistake is that you don't need ShB to start.
