In this video I’ve finished the crossover upgrades. Using jantzen superior z in the tweeter and a mix of Mundorf ecap and clarity cap csa in the mid/bass, jantzen superes resistors, dueland tinned copper hook up cable and Mitchell engineering binding posts.
These upgrades have brought a level of detail, air/space, lush tone, smooth treble and soundstage that I honestly didn’t expect to achieve.
The air and space that the instrument is being played is something I’ve not heard until now, detail of the decay of instruments is absolutely brilliant, I can hear so much more into the recording. The superior z caps are truly fantastic caps to use in the tweeter section, I’ve yet to hear any grain or hardness etc. The high frequency appears to be slightly rolled off at first listen but it’s actually just very smooth and natural whilst still being super airy and detailed.
Quality capacitors absolutely do bring improvements to the sound, this was something of an experiment for myself to determine whether I found it to be an improvement or not. Some people claim there’s very subtle improvements if any when upgrading a crossover but that was not the case for me, they were substantial improvements.
Worth every penny.
More demos coming soon.

I'm using the Jantzen z cap supreme on my mid range woofers & opted for the mundorf m cap evo oils for the tweeter, they say the z caps don't need burn-in, but I have noticed the difference after 100 hours, thanks for sharing 👍

So did you only swap the capicitors or do you have a schematic drawing and values for the cores used in this cross over. I have a pair of these speakers and i think the capicitors used are ready to be replaced. Just don't know why 3 are used in parallel. Will replace those with one only.

I studied the crossover layout and ended up drawing it out. From memory the 3 caps in parallel were something like 2 x 22uf electrolytic and a 220uf? It’s just to make up the total value. I stuck with electrolytic here. The 2 film caps on the crossover (square ones) were the ones i swapped to jantzen, i don’t have these anymore unfortunately.

Hello there! Is it true that purple CSA (and clarity caps in general) makes the sound way too warm?

Hi. Maybe the sa and esa but the csa and cmr i had were fine. The cmr was really open

Hello Mr.Parker. I'm on the edge to buy a pair of Chairo Syntar 520r for my Audio Refinement amp. I'm appreciated if you have any comment or usage experience about them. Thanks....vids are great btw 👏😻

Hi. Thanks! Ive not heard the syntar range. I do know that they sat lower in the range of this generation of speakers, reference being top, then hiper followed by syntar. I would imagine the newer versions of the syntar (with the nicer cabinets) being a better speaker. I suppose you will have to try them and see how they are. However if you spot a set of the reference models I can strongly recommend those speakers. 👍🏻

Feel bad now putting these caps in my bose update job alongside a $20 tweeter and $15 woofer 🫣 one less bottleneck i guess lol

I have no interest in solen caps. Maybe a test you could try if you want to find out.

Did they improve after burning?

Yeah, i might actually re do this video again to compare and see if it’s audible on RU-vid. There was a day maybe two weeks after fitting them when within the space of a few hours of listening I noticed the air and space in the recording grew. If you ever hear anyone talk about capacitors “opening up” this must be what they talk about. Soundstage got bigger too. Tone and clarity was something that I couldn’t hear a difference from freshly fitted though.

@@russellparker4568 I know that spaciousness and instrument separation improves.Even with the Jantzen Standart capacitiors i noticed that.I think it takes 50-100 hours.I just asked to see if anyone else had the same experience.Cheers!

I think there might be a bit more micro details in the cymbal and guitar strings too, that might be down to more space around the instrument so it’s clearer to hear. Either way they have made a very noticeable improvement. Have you tried a Russian silva mica bypass cap? I’ve had very good results using them in the tweeter circuit.

@@russellparker4568 No.I am using Epos ES14 which has only one cap for the tweeter.I will leave these Superior caps on them.No need to change something which is already good enough.

@@beslemeto what are your thoughts on the Epos? I’ve never heard of them until now. Just been looking and they seem like excellent speakers, I could actually grab a pair with stands atm off eBay.
