I totally understand why you'd want to keep both of these pairs of speakers. They are very different, and I like them both, from what I can discern from your video. The Doublets seem like the type of speaker that you could listen to for long periods of time before wanting to turn off the music. On the other hand, the Abbots seem like they have more snap and 'clarity' to catch your attention, but may possibly grate on you over time (to some degree or other, since I know they're still good and not totally off-putting). I think this comparison is sort of similar to my thoughts of the Minstrel vs the Minstrel SE. The original Minstrels are more 'exciting', but the SEs sound more natural, warmer, and can be listened to all day with zero fatigue. It's very hard to find speakers that walk the fine line of having both sets of strengths (warm and natural AND exciting at the same time). It's possible, but rare/ costly. Thanks for posting this. Cheers, man!

Yeah i really can’t pick one. I think the doublets have more of a true to life tone, they have a bass weight and presence that the abbots cant match too, imaging is crazy good on both. The doublets make you smile in a way where music flows out of them in a really satisfying way, yeah the abbots are more resolving, have more 3d depth, more clarity but you quickly forget about that. They create a really great sense of space and air in the recording. The doublets are for people who listen to an artist and their music in my opinion. In the other hand with all the abbots strength’s, they suit music that focuses on precise images of instruments, like 2 musicians playing guitar where you can really focus on each of them, they manage to create great depth to the image which makes for a very realistic and holographic sound. They can create a very deep and wide soundstage with great layering. More of an audiophile speaker i guess. I think one more thing to say is on an evening with lower level listening the abbots are really nice, the doublets like a bit of volume to really sing. The exposure 21 pre and 18 super power i got is absolutely brilliant, silly amounts of current, the best hifi purchase ive made so far. It’s got that much grip on the speakers that bass guitars have bags of detail and weight. It’s just an absolute joy to listen to. After the experience with the doublets i think im gonna look into a pair of proac towers for a future purchase, maybe the dt8’s. Need to audition first though.

@@russellparker4568 I like the overall sound of the Doublets, for me the sound is more relaxed and they have a better bottom end. I think this is because my ear is more used to that type of sound, because I'm so used to my Tannoy XT6F speakers at the moment. The Abbots seem to have more mid range which is no bad thing. If I still had my stand mount Kralk Audio TDB 6 speakers set up for my main listening I would probably have chosen the Abbots. It took me a couple of months to start liking my Tannoys after spending many months with the Kralks and very much enjoying their mid and treble presentation. It's also important to me that speakers play well at low volume as next door has young children that are in bed around 7.30pm, so anything after requires low volumes. I would keep both, as I have done with my Tannoys and Kralks😉😂 . I'm actually considering setting up my Kralks again, but at the back of my mind is the thought when I change back to the Tannoys after some months, will I go through the same experience of disliking them for another couple of months, till I get used to them! I have videos up of these speakers and a few others, you may be able to hear the difference. My Van Morrison - Nervous Breakdown video with the Tannoys has a link in my comment to the Krakks playing the same track , so it may be worth a look if you have the time and inclination my friend. Ah, The joy of hifi, too many choices. You have a great channel Russell, keep up the good work. Jim🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🙂

@jimsregaturntableshifijukebox Thanks for the reply Jim! Yes the Abbots have a peak at 1khz and it’s very audible, however like you say after a day or so your ear adjusts to the sound. I found the doublets a bit soft coming off the back of the abbots but after lifting them up so the tweeters sit at ear level they sound quite nice. Ive never had a pair of Tannoys, I’d like to hear a pair one day. Theres so much difference in the sound of speakers, i still to this day don’t really know what type of sound i like, I suppose thats why I’m forever changing them 😬🤣

Finally got round to listening to this. The doublets sound less coloured to my ears. Clear winner for me. 😄

Yep, Abbots have a weird midrange thing going on that either sounds awesome or dreadful depending on the music

Thanks for watching! Yeah the doublets have a richer and more realistic tone i think, the bass is more powerful and the soundstage and scale is bigger. They also play any kind of music effortlessly which makes them really enjoyable to listen to.

The abbots have more depth, detail and speed but with a thinner or cooler tonality.
