No they don’t really, this was a bit of a naff placement to be honest. I’d not had them very long at this point. I found the best position was about 6-7 feet apart, fairly close to the front wall as their bass needs some support and little to no toe in.
I do a lot of chopping and changing gear tbh, different cables. Ive got some shawline x in now, still thin conductors 1.3mm silver plated copper but insulated and shielded. They sound similar to the cyrus but the cyrus roll off the top and bottom a bit in comparison.
I'm a big fan of Exposure, 2010 pre into IV power amp, they have super control over many speakers, not the last word in soundstage and dynamics, but so musical . I use qed 40i inter connects and mogami speaker cables .
Nice!! Which mogami cables are you using? I’ve been swapping cables about like crazy recently, its amazing the differences, it baffles me how some people cant hear differences 🤷🏻♂️
Oh dam I’ve been waiting for someone to do a sound demo. How does the streamer sound? I’ve been going back forth on a WiiM pro plus and the MXN10. Let me know what you think thanks.
I prefer it to the wiim. To my ears the mxn has more expression with better harmonics and inner details, you get the drama of the performer better. I think the wiim soundstage is a bit more 2D compared to the mxn10. I think its worth the money as an upgrade from the wiim, i also like that i can use better mains, if thats something you believe in. The wiim is pretty good though for £150. I got my mxn10 off cambridge through ebay with a decent discount, i think it was £320 or £360. Thanks!
Hilarious. Thin cables have high resistance. You could use 18 gauge wire from Home Depot and get the same sound. Or just put a resistor in series with your other cables. High resistance will cause reduce the damping of the woofer, causing a peak in the response of the bass and it will decrease the mid band less than the high impedance top end of the tweeter. So yeah, it will sound different. Just buy an equalizer.
These cables have been designed with a wide spacing in between conductors to achieve a very low capacitance and higher inductance, they suit the early exposure pre power I’m using which calls for this type of specced cable.
They are just something to try out for a little bit. I like swapping cables, it changes the sound a bit for a new flavour. The solid core really do seem to have lovely tight bass with great timing. I think they are probably not and extended in the highs but the mids are great. This is compared to a bog standard stranded 2.5mm2 ofc cable.
Yes I like solid core for the sound. They tighten everything thing up, especially in the highs and the bass. They do tend to give a different presentation than normal twisted copper cables. Great if Your speakers need more control in the bass.
Did the tapestry come before the TV, If so, did you notice if it had any effect on your room acoustics (holographic soundstage etc) I ask this question because of my own experience.. when I placed a thick blanket on my rear wall, it might've got rid of the reflections coming from rear, but unfortunately, I also seemed to have lost some depth within my soundstage! Managed to fix both problems with a diffusion / absorption panel. Obviously, we're talking about a totally different wall, but I'm still interested to know if the tapestry had any effect on your room acoustics.
I've actually been thinking of adding some sort of a lightweight diffusion panel to cover the TV. Just wondering what that would do (if anything) for the stereo imaging?
I think most(all i ithink) 'audiophile quality recording albums' is not openly distribute to ordinary peoples/customers, or the audiophile quality album is only made to a notknown singers by ordinary peoples While the non audiophile release album from the ordinary popular singers that known by ordinary peoples is what is on the market. I hope all the album no matter whose the singer is SHOULD BE recorded in audiophile quality. My question is do you know why is this ? Or maybe i dont know that all these times all albums that produce no matter whose the singer('audiophile grade artist ' or ordinary artist) is recorded in audiophile quality. Do you know on this ?
Honestly, no idea. I often thought that commercial music is mostly listened to on smart speakers and car stereos so they boost the treble and don’t put much effort into the mastering because that is all thats needed. Adel is a prime example.
@@russellparker4568 @russellparker4568 , ok, thank so much for your reply. My suggestion... most Utubers is ordinary peoples, so if u plays comercial music(ordinary known artists) for your videos... may boost your viewer. Just my honest opinion. Your videos do ease alot for viewers that looking for disired audio setup. Thank
Oh I’ve no intention of trying to get more viewers, thats not why i do these videos. I make them for other people who are interested in the gear in the video so they can get an idea of what it can do.
Hi audiophile 😅 It's a completely ordinary album. which is available to anyone! It's a French musician called Claude Salmieri. Album Release date 1991! Extraordinary recording
So, are these speakers staying, and the others now gone? Or are they all still in rotation somewhere? I have such a hard time parting with any of my speakers, because they all have their strengths and applications. That's why I'm really hoping to eventually come across a combo of amp and speakers that're just good all-rounders.
Oh most definitely staying. I was the same as you, each speaker had its own strength, then the proacs arrived and blew everything into the sky. The proacs are beasts sheer control and authority they have over the music is awesome. They are fast, transparent, very detailed but not fatiguing, its an open window into the music for sure. The exposure pre power does play a part in this too, ive made a few changes in the front end with the proacs in and i could hear every change easily which has got me excited for future amp/dac upgrades. Yeah the response 3’s are a complete speaker, the only complaint i have is i wish my room was 4ft wider. Id highly recommend trying some proacs if you can get some, skip the studio line and go straight to response. I know a few people who have 1sc’s and love them, one person with db1’s with sugden - loves them, someone with ETB’s - owned for 25 years and loves them and a friend who just got the d18’s - same again.
@@russellparker4568 Yeah, I've definitely got my eyes open for some from the Response series. They seem to come in waves here, with nothing within reach at the moment. There's a pair of Response 2's in Ottawa, which I visit a couple times a year (500km away). I wonder how those would fare? The same guy also has a pair of Response 2s's, which has ad says have better bass. Apparently the Response 2 is the upper portion of your Response 3. I wonder if I should make the trip... Did you sell all the Royds and others you may have had, now that the Proacs are in the house?
@BadMonkeyFinger_Audio ive read the response 2’s are awesome too. That mid woofer had some really great tone and detail. Yes i traded the abbots and doublets in against the response 3’s. The proacs were £1350.00 in total.
Hi yes it was quite good actually, it had an airy detailed transparent sound in this system 👍🏻 watch out if buying second hand, i feel like given the age of the dac many people are asking a bit too much for it, around £300 is the right price imo
Not instructions no. It’s a demo of the golden ratio speaker placement as an attempt to show how with this placement the speakers fill the room with sound. Just punch golden ratio speaker placement formula in google and it will take you to one of a few websites that will give you the formula to use for the dimensions of your room 👍🏻
I have this amplifier, let me say firstly it is as ugly as sin . Get past that and you have a fantastic bit of kit, the sound quality is exceptional, bass, mids, treble are just on point, add to that a very well implemented dac and streamer . Plus lots of goodies. I know some folk who have sold this amp and regretted it . For me it's a keeper.. ( why look at the mantle piece when you're poking the fire)
Nice! I think arcam have done a great job improving the appearance with the new range, it was definitely needed coming of the SA range. I quite liked the sound of this amp, it does have a sound though. I sold it in the end as the firmware for the streamer was giving me all kinds of issues and i wanted a sound that was a bit more expressive.
@@russellparker4568 The best amplifier for the money and fabulous sound is the Astin Trew AT2-2100 this amp has flown under the radar it's awesome, and selling for just over 1k .. Transistor based if you like tube sound with plenty of power, it's a no brainer .
If you want an all in one and can live with the looks its quite good. All the included features make it excellent value but beware it’s got network connectivity issues with google home and a other buggy things like volume suddenly going up or down for no reason, this happened even after the latest firmware update when I owned it. In fact theres a arcam sa30 owners group forum online which has members posting issues on a weekly basis last time i checked. Luckily the sound is really good, not the most exciting or expressive amp but still decent, power for days and nice at low volume. The chap above mentioned that many people regret selling the SA30, I don’t regret it at all. My current exposure pre power trounces it and has no silly issues. All in ones are tidy but I really like being able to tweak the sound to my liking with cables and separates. I’ve also learned I’m not one for digital displays and the like, I’d almost always turn it off.
Ahh I didn’t know the SA30 had issues. I’m also not a big fan of like all in one either. The new A35 when it’s release later this year is like $3500 though but it looks so nice.
So did you only swap the capicitors or do you have a schematic drawing and values for the cores used in this cross over. I have a pair of these speakers and i think the capicitors used are ready to be replaced. Just don't know why 3 are used in parallel. Will replace those with one only.
I studied the crossover layout and ended up drawing it out. From memory the 3 caps in parallel were something like 2 x 22uf electrolytic and a 220uf? It’s just to make up the total value. I stuck with electrolytic here. The 2 film caps on the crossover (square ones) were the ones i swapped to jantzen, i don’t have these anymore unfortunately.
Haha, yeah its sounding pretty sweet mate. Cant see a speaker upgrade for a long time now, there’s always room for front end upgrades though, these speakers will defo benefit from it too. Some expo mono’s and a better streamer are most likely on the cards
@@russellparker4568 Nice! Makes me even more eager to get a pair of some sort from ProAc. Curious about the cost difference for you. Did you have to drop a lot more for them by comparison to any of your Royds?
@@russellparker4568 Geez, I wrote a reply, but it seems to have disappeared. Who knows... Maybe they'll both pop up in your feed. Just out of curiosity, did you have to drop a lot more quid for the ProAcs? They seem to go for a premium here compared to Royds. Last pair of Reference 3s sold around me went for $2000 CAD.
Please give list of products that u use in each of your video as there are more things in viewer life to do than to spend alot of time try find the products u use in a video. Btw the first sound sample more close to realistic sound(better sound)
Apologies, ill be sure to list them in the future. In this video Speakers - Royd Abbots and Royd Doublets Amp - Exposure 21 pre and 18 super power Turntable - Modified Ariston RD80 with rega rb250 tonearm and goldring 1042 cart Pre amp - project phono box s3 Cables - ixos 102 interconnects and chord clearway x speaker cables
The whole video was an experiment to see if there was a noticeable difference between 1 and 2, they are the same model cartridge but two different cartridges. I have had a feeling cart number 2 was possibly faulty.
Its ok, please dont feel so bad. Thank so2 much for the list. You got the answer 'of mine' which sound better (my prefered sound... big, clear, real life size, out of speaker sound).
@lovehorses2669 it doesn’t have a pre power split if thats what you were thinking of doing. Personally id jump to the xxv, that has a remote and its got more power. The combo i have now has a remote too, 21 pre and 18 super dual mono.
Flrst sounds most dynamic and detailed, second is a touch more laid back without moving too from the 1st sound. Third sounds most coloured and dull or mellow depending on your sound preference. My order of preference 1st, 2nd, and a long way behind, 3rd but of course taste is subjective
