As someone helping out at his local animal shelter: Charities aren't all a scam, but as soon as it's going huge distances, multiple countries and through multiple people it is very shady. If you want to do something good, then look at your local charities and see which one seems trustworthy to you. I live close to Berlin in Germany and at least in my town, both the animal shelter and the volunteer firefighters are great options, both only life thanks to private support and people can see where the money goes on a daily basis. Supplies, equipment, power, running water, etc. Money is great since it can be used where it is needed the most, but on the websites you usually find a list of what is or isn't needed and this can be used to support them without the use of money. For example, most people send food to the animal shelter, but forget that cleaning supplies, litter box fillings or fuel for transports is just as important and greatly appreciated.

I went door-to-door for a charity company that was taking donations for the DARE program. They kept 95% of the money and gave the dare program 5%. No joke, it's on the paper they give you.

Its sad because so many people really need the help, but because scammers hardly anyone donates.

In the UK ...charity shops are highly successful businesses... They get reduced business tax rates for shops in the cities or towns... the stock they sell is all free as it's donated, the staff wages are (beside the manager) zero as they are volutneers and the business only has to give 10-15 % of the money they take to the charity they claim to support. .. its a goldmine for many

They are tax havens, they are allowed to have an investment arm. Nonprofits only required to give away 10% a year ( sometimes give it to other foundation that in return give them their 10%)

I'm glad this is being addressed. I NEVER give to charity because I don't know where that money is going. I know it's not going where it's supposed to. I give directly to the homeless every chance I get because I'm a believer in karma. I don't give a fuck if they spend that money on drugs, booze or whores. It makes their day.

just a reminder, when self checkout or a cashier asks you to donate or round up, the corporation has already made a donation to charity, youre just paying them back for their tax write-off

I realized this almost a decade ago working my first retail job at 16. I read the fine print of our red nose donation promo and less than 10% went to the charity. I was shocked, disgusted and then did more research to find a lot of similar charities work the same way.

Ive been saying this for years, its worse in the USA but in Australia it's called not for profit where the CEO creates their own salary.

I know this to be true. Do you want to buy a sticker to support disabled firefighters? I was a telemarketer for one of these places back in the day. The guy was from New Jersey and his name was Tony bolani we were basically just getting people out of the money. I had no idea what was going on but I had suspicions and then there was police tape when I went to work one day around it I wouldn't care but the call list was mostly older retired people. They just sent them a sticker they could put on their windshield.

Those fast food franchises that always ask you after you pay for the food, if you'd like to donate 5 bucks to charity are the worst, because when you follow the money like a forensic accountant, you'll see that no charities benefited. It's just an elaborate circumvention of paying taxes

Wounded Warriors, for example, is above 40% admin cost. I use to donate a K9 search and rescue unit that had 0% admin fees. To be tax free it should be regulated to the percent of amount going to actual cause. Maybe like 80%+ then tax free.

Unfortunately if you Google the topic, it's almost impossible to find what you are saying. Some could be said for RU-vid. If I you type any subject on Trump in the search bar it pops up stories that slam Trump mostly from MSNBC. But if you find a channel that's on Trumps side and watch their shows the algorithm will show you like minded people who have similar topics. It's really hard to actually search a topic around Trump and get something that's not cut and twisted.

Not to make this a religious thing, but often times the Islamic charities do 80-100% donation more often than not, it’s 100%. Reason being is in Islamic law, it’s illegal to use charitable fund to run the charity itself. The organisations have to find funding separately to run the charity. And it hurts my heart but I have to say yeah but I’m looking out for me and mine and that’s why I leave it if there’s a day where I have $10 in my pocket but I know if I keep that $10, I can provide a little bit more from my daughter.
