People underestimate how undersized Charles was for his position, the man is as tall as an average shooting guard and was still killing on the paint

For some context and perspective, that 93 Suns team was one of the greatest NBA teams to never win a championship. They lost to prime MJ’s Bulls in 6 games. Dropped the first 2 at home, but from games 3-6, they played every bit as well as the Bulls, for the most part. They also won they’re 2 games IN Chicago and came within a last second John Paxson 3 from sending it to a game 7 at home. Barkley’s not cappin. He really did have a chance to beat MJ in his prime for the championship.

When I hear people ranking baseball players I never hear them talk about how many Championships they won. Players like Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr, Ted Williams, Ernie Banks are just a few HOF's that have never won a Championship. Also, current Players like Mike Trout and Bryce Harper have yet to win one. Yet their lack of Championships are never brought up. Baseball players get off easy in that regards.

Baseball is more team oriented compare to basketball, one man can pretty much carry a team to the playoff, you can't do that in baseball. In baseball you can missed your best player and still win the world series, aka Atlanta Braves.
@jamesynfg2136
@jamesynfg2136 Год назад
Baseball has a different conversation because there’s a different dynamic at work. Because of how position-locked the sport is, and how big the field is, it’s easily recognized as a team sport - you can be an all-time great pitcher and a shitty hitter, but no one holds your hitting against you. You can be a great hitter and an average outfielder, but what are the chances that every single (important) defensive play comes down to you at LF? Whereas you can take over a game on both sides of the ball in basketball (ie; MJ, Pippen, Kawhi, Butler, Giannis, etc.). Between smaller play areas (court vs field) and smaller teams (5v5 vs 9v9), there’s more of a subconscious onus on an individual basketball player than an individual baseball player (other than maybe a pitcher whose goal should always be 0 hits or opponents on-base lol). With all that being said, basketball is still a team sport and it’s very weird how fans act like it’s humanly possible to 1v5 your way to a ring when you’re going against the greatest players the world has to offer.

And they had already won a title in Phily, if anything they underperformed there with a rookie named Barkley from Auburn. Also, The Suns were very close to winning it all with Chuck, and were full of talented players. Houston had a bunch of stars if you look up and down that roster. With Philly it was Julius Erving, Moses Malone, and Maurice Cheeks, plus Andrew Toney I think. That group had already won a title before Barkley was there. The Suns had Chuck, Ainge, Chambers, Ceballos, KJ, Majerle, Mark West, and Richard Dumas. A bunch of gamers there. Houston and Barkley there were Hakeem Olajuwon, Scottie Pippen, and Clyde Drexler. It always angered me when people (including MJ, Shaq, Kenny Smith, etc) said that Barkley didn't know what it takes to win. The dude won more than just about anyone else during his run in the NBA. He had several legitimate shots to win a championship and fell just short. The man took the greatest Bulls team of all time to 6 games, and that series could have easily gone to 7 games. Do competitors, and fans realize that there will always be someone that loses in order for winning to matter? Every great player who has ever played the game has lost at some point. The vast majority lose far more than they win. Guys like MJ, Kobe, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Bird, and even Bill Russel (the one guy that won more than he lost) have all lost on the biggest stage, or not even made it to the big stage in some seasons.

In Philly he was drafted to a squad that had Dr J, Moses Malone, Andrew Toney and Maurice Cheeks, I know Chuck likes to believe these guys were old, but the team made the Conference Finals that year and the only guy that was old was Dr J at 34, the rest were under 30 in the prime of their careers. Next year they won 2 less games and lost Game 7 versus a Bucks team that they swept last year. This year Toney got injured for nearly the whole year, but Chuck made a leap, except in that Game 7 he goaltended in the last 40 seconds of the game. In 1987 Moses was traded and they only won 45 games and lost in the first round to the Bucks in Game 5, in that game Chuck only had 12 points on 5-16 shooting, 13 rebounds, but also 4 turnovers. Choked it whilst Dr J still outperformed Chuck. Next year Dr J retired and they didn't even make the playoffs. At this point the team was just Chuck, Cheeks and Toney left. A new addition was Cliff Robinson who put up 19 ppg. In 1989, they won 46 games and got swept by the Knicks. In 1990 it was just Chuck left from the old guard, only noteworthy player was Hershey Hawkins and maybe Rick Mahorn, whatever they got gentleman swept by the Bulls two years in a row. The next year they missed the playoffs and Barkley left. We know what happened with the Suns in 1993, he had a Finals ready team, but he was ducked Jordan by going to the West coast, well he couldn't duck him in the Finals and the Suns got torched by Jordan. He spent 3 more years with the Suns and never made it that far again. Game 7 loss to Hakeem's Rockets where Chuck couldn't stop chucking and went 2-7 from 3. Next year another Game 7 loss to Hakeem where Chuck had another below average game and his team only lost by 1. If he showed up, they could have won. Then he joined the team that beat him twice in a row, the Rockets and formed a big 3 superteam first with Drexler and Hakeem, then Hakeem and Pippen. And that didn't work either. Chuck needs to watch his mouth, he had help, he just wasn't clutch when it mattered most.

This series was winnable. Going down 0-2, damn! But then regaining home court by winning 2 out of 3 in Chicago, which was NOT a small feat. Two of those opening 3 losses actually they had a good chance to win, but game 6 really stings. That 4th quarter, last few dumbass possessions, letting MJ cut it to 2 with an easy coast to coast, then Majerle bricking an easy open shot to go up 4, letting Mj get a head full of steam and the ball roll to an open Paxson, and then mess up your final shot. What a dumbass way to lose. They also lost two game 7s in a row to the Rockets next 2 seasons, so Chuck has a lot to be pissed off about, because he couldve been a 3-time champ if some shots fell different way!

The funny thing for me is people nowadays talking down on chuck when he’s one of the best players ever, but he’d be even more dominate in today’s game. He played (at 6-5) in the golden era of centers, where every team had two big men on the court, and the game was played inside-out. He’d be even more of a problem now on offense and defense

Chuck is right. A player shouldn't get knocked on not winning a championship. It's never the fault of the star player only for not winning.

Everytime Shaq says "How many rings I got, Chuck?" I start thinking a once in a lifetime player like Shaq should've gotten at least 5 more rings. Oh and if Robert Horry is a better player than Chuck just because of all his rings, then I guess he would've led the Suns to a championship in '93 🙄🤣

I respect that Charles says what he say because everybody look at Michael Jordan winning six championships like it was 101 and like it wasn't a team accomplishment only thing you can control is your individual stats and your individual achievements to good compare players from other players

he played post salary cap, the 90's were a stradegy dominated league; Phil Jackson, Rudy and Popavich owned the league. No one noticed this, but if they hadn't installed a salary cap pat riley would have turned new york into showtime on broadway.

I don't think that was his point. Chuck was saying that the Stafford didn't get better playing in LA...he was the same as he ever was. He just got fortunate to get traded to a better team.
