I watched Angel in french growing up, and the last line in this video was "what? Only idiots don't change their minds" Instead of "I was cool before I met you guys" and honestly idk which one is better hahahah
Yeah, I love that too. Especially because I have friends like that. You know they really care about stuff, rather than just being inadvertently pretentious about something that was originally rammed down their throats. If Gunn likes something nice, cultured, whatchamaycallit - it's because he decided for himself it was worth appreciating. And I admire that. And Spike was actually very similar in that way: hard to choose between those two!
Detail usually missed is that Charles demonstrated more than a few times since his introduction that he had a head and potential as a lawyer long before season 5
Yes charles deserved better but he was still one of the best written characters and not a trope. He had his own fleshed out stories too. Unlike some shows (cough tvd).
Gunn is great brother to his sister as he do whatever takes to keep her safe. Honoring her. He's true leader of his Robin Hood crew before he met Angel. He's good friend to Angel and his friends. I understand he's trying to be more smarter at season 5. He's already smart because he knows vampire's weakness and any supernatural evil creature's weakness. He's tough as he's survive on street with his sister while they're were little kids. He's brawn of Angel's crew.
I actually loved him with Fred I just hated how they ended their relationship and then made him the reason Fred died that was so stupid. Although I agree with you the love triangle and the killing professor for her storylines definitely ruined his character a little Fred too it would’ve been better if she had killed the professor herself or at least let it go. Then they would’ve broken up naturally because she changed and then they could’ve set up the whole Wesley/Fred storyline instead of ruining the friendship between all three of them. But I get it the show must have drama.
The writers really did Gunn and for that matter Wesley a disservice. They completely neutered Gunn's character in order to exalt Wesley into this 'bad ass' when Wesley had already been a bad ass by the end of season 2. Gunn grew up on the streets and decided to slay vamps since he was a kid. He met Angel, left everything behind in order to serve a higher mission, and all they had for him was turning him into a W&H lawyer and him being the cause of Fred's death smh.
I'd actually have loved to see those two together! A man who can't stand vampires and the vampire he couldn't stay away from, it could have been great!
I decided to watch Buffy and Angel again over last Christmas. When you binge watch them Buffy still holds up, but with Angel you begin to notice the flaws in the character writing, specifically that of Gunn. I loved Angel as a show when it aired, but watching it back now, I couldn't believe how hard i fought for it not to be cancelled.
Just like Xander Gunn was more useful than Xander was on the team. Gunn wasn't too smart either but at least he could fight. I always found it interesting he was able to defeat all those vampires I. The final episode. Wish he could have came onto van helsing and kick Sam butt.
'This is tutus, with guys, and their big ass packages jumping up and down!' 😂 Loved Charles in the earlier seasons-until the storyline with Fred. They just didn't have the chemistry.
