Charles is one of the toughest lightweights out there. To take the kind of shots he’s been hit with and still fight back and submit people is so impressive.
23 out of 28 fighters on that card weighed in .5 pounds over the limit for championship weight. EVEN THE HEAVYWEIGHTS. Blagoi Ivanov weighed 253.5 and Marcos Rogerio de Lima 258.5. I have no idea how anyone isn't talking about this. The biggest rig in UFC history by far.
If it’s not a championship fight then weight in a whole pound over. Ex. Welterweights can weigh in at 171 for non-title fights so 170.5 would be fine for them to weigh in.
@@MiroTheHero7 I don’t think that it’s about it being allowed what I think he’s trying to say is that percentage of fighters were .5 over and usually most fighters are right on to have 23 fighters weighing in .5 over is suspect
@@MiroTheHero7 ofc I could be wrong maybe we haven’t seen the whole picture but that point right there was actually made by another fighter on that card saying it was sus but maybe they do that more than we all think
I LOVE what Joe said about how charles fights even though hes the champion. He doesnt play it safe. It shows a stark contrast between Rose and Charles. Rose fought to keep her belt. But champions supposed to make statements everytime they fight. This is why Charles is a true champion. A champion of champions.
The fact UFC admits there is an issue and puts guards on the scale, yet they stripped this man. Absolutely disgusting. If he was a bigger draw you can guarantee Dana wouldn't have let this shit fly.
@chris sanvo after cutting lots of weight and your body goes back to its original state its extremely difficult to shed off any more weight. Im sure he tried. It would not make any sense at all for olives to sacrafice some of his purse as well as championship belt for the sake of one pound
@chris sanvo sure bud they tried everything to get him to lose and he still came back and whooped phoenixs fighter right in front of their eyes. Hes the best in the world
@@tanishazoa138 Dana white blatantly stated the scales where not monitored. The man built a multi billions world wide business, he has never held his tongue in regards to fighters, if they fuck up then fuck them in his eyes, he fucks them under the bus if at fault an moves on, not a ufc issue it's the fighter. He would not openly state it was a staffing issue an new staff will be hired going forward, he's claimed liability, that's a fact. He would not talk ballox and then say security will be hired, then rogan few days later says the scales were messed with and ufc has a new security policy. Common sense use your head.
Joe has such a great way of getting me excited about certain fighters. His descriptions are never cliche and always insightful. I swear no one can get me more excited about fighters than Joe
He was paying respect to mma fighters since he began podcasting ,and he is still doing it right now while he is the Goat of podcasting. He definitely promoted and helped a lot of fighters get that exposure to the public for free (most likely).
Bro, the very first leg kick gaethje threw, Oliveira cracked him with a straight right hand and STUNNED HIM, his legs were wobbled with Oliveiras first punch. Crazy
If that punch didn't land and Justin settled in we are probably looking at a totally different fight. The way Charles pressures and is on his game instantly just overwhelms people.
@@adolpholiverbush5867 I think if he still didn’t land the punch Charleswould’ve put up amazing clinch and Muay Thai skills just like the Poirier fight in the same outcome
It’s not necessarily power but rather precision. Charles will take damage but capitalize on any opening and land flush, kinda reminds me of Featherweight McGregor where the left hand worked wonders as a counter shot.
Oliveira deserves his flowers man. Alot of people still doubting him today. "He doesnt deserve to be the champ cause he missed weight". You guys are so wrong about the sport. He is as elite as it can get. Great champ.
@@forexmagician He gets dropped, and proceeds to rally straight to victory. I do see the concern with that though, your chin only gets worn down more and more, eventually he won't get back up
Charles has become my favorite fighter. The nice personality, venomous fang fight style, still living with his family in the same favela and buying Christmas for all the favela kids. 🥺 💜 🦾💥🤛🏼
Charles is very very humble but he has a nice life today. He doesnt live in favela anymore and has a huge house. Also his family are all good. Everything more than deserved. Good and deserved reward
I wanted Joe to touch on the subject of how well he adjust to his opponents, like he did against chandler on the second round, against Poirier when he started working the clinch more and against Gaethjes leg kicks and finding those openings after the clinch breaks
Man, I don't know if Gaethje was not at his best that fight, or if he is truly not as good as most of us thought. His leg kicks were getting checked multiple times in a row and he didn't do anything about it. He was banking so much on his heavy hands and iron chin.
@@rapisor the problem is, some fighters are faster then him, and thats when gaethje gets over whelmed. his heavy hands and kicks usually slows people down... imo
One thing very few people mention is that the scale was still wobbling when the official reading it proclaimed that Oliveira missed weight. Not as big of a factor maybe as the calibration shenanigans but still a factor.
He can deserve to get stripped and always be the deserving lineal champion. Hopefully he learned to do what most fighters do and bring his own scale with him and weigh himself before bed and when waking.
Oliveira is the best type of prizefighter...he takes damage but comes back and gets the finish...all his fight are exciting and he's not interested in winning by decision
I also wanted Gaethje to win but Charles deserves nothing but complete respect after that last fight, it was a true test of his heart and soul. He is the champ.
@@tanishazoa138 The Arizona Commission do not have multiple scales.....only one present for the weigh-ins. On the night before weigh-in, reports of a problem with the scales prompted them to be changed the following morning. The replacement scales have since been confirmed to be accurate. The point is that the scales used on the night before the weigh-in, were inaccurate & therefore, when Oliveira checked his weight, the reading indicated he was within the limit, but this was inaccurate & as a consequence, Oliveira missed weight on the replacement scales. However, my point is that it should be policy for a 2nd set of scales to be available for the weigh-in, simply to reference in case of disputes. Despite that, i cannot reconcile how anyone could fail to lose 8 ounces in 1 hour......shave your head & body, get an enema, self-catheterise (the bladder is never completely emptied by urinating), cut your nails, swallow salt & sit in the sauna, cut yourself & drain a few drops of blood.....anything it takes.
Charles is GSP level of technical application. Perfect technique EVERYTIME. Now he has that dawg in him it makes him a scary champion. I see him defend 3 or 4 times at least
Charles fights like a blind man, constantly move forward and throw offence til he gets the clinch. Once he gets the clinch he brutalizes the body with knees. Beautiful.
I became a fan when he won the belt, that 2nd round KO was wild, seeing him vs Dustin I was nervous but he did amazing and I knew he’d beat Justin !! Do bronx 🇧🇷
I've always been a fan of him. I've been watching MMA for a while and honestly never thought Charles would be at the top of his division. Always seemed kinda inconsistent in a way but now he has this long win streak and just finishing the best guys in the division. Crazy
Obviously joe knows 1000x more about jujitsu then me and probably didn’t mention it but I think the reason Charle’s jujitsu is so good in the cage is because of his incredible understanding of both sports . So if he’s on your back trying to complete a rear naked joke he knows where to hit you to make you relinquish you grip slightly letting him sink his chokes in, just a random example but he is undoubtedly the goat of mma jujitsu in my opinion .
Not to mention some very underrated power he’s developed in his hands. It’s not a fluke when you knock down gaethjie (arguably the hardest chin at 155) and tko chandler as well. But it’s a different animal when you fight guys that don’t care about playing your game, like Islam for example. I personally think Islam would wrestle him to death. Very intrigued to see that fight.
Oliveira isn't just the best in the world, he's also fighting like a true champion should-aggressive, pushing the pace, looking to take your head off and make a statement. CHAMP SHIT ONLY

The scales happened to be messed up in Arizona, the home state of the challenger, and the athletic commission goes and tells everyone about it but the champion while some people working on the athletic commission appear to be very close to Gaethje's team, talking a lot and walking around together most of the time. After this, we watched the most rigorous weight in the history of the sport, and even after more than one hour of work and sweat and after taking his underwear the champion's weight won't change. Oliveira was physically and mentally exhausted to the point he didn't want to eat or rehydrate. Regardless, 24h after that he showed up and destroyed Gaethje. All this was too much of a coincidence for me and the Kilogram talk sounds like pure bullshit. My feeling is that something sketchy happened and the UFC knows, therefore the security guard from now on. Anyway, that makes the Oliveira legacy even bigger. Charles was and still is a true champion, but after this he became a true legend in my eyes.
Don’t you think if the commission really were doing something ‘sketchy’ for Gaethje and his team, they wouldn’t make it so obvious by walking around like besties? Nice conspiracy though bro. ORRRR… hear me out… they were aren’t really close with the commission - just having a conversation and Charles just didn’t make weight so lost the belt lol. Come in a bit earlier to weight and not leave it so fkin late next time do bronx

In interviews I heard with Gaethje, I took it that he didn’t take training seriously, or at least definitely didn’t like it. He literally said he would give up his career to be a pro golfer instead, where he didn’t have to be in shape.
Correct correct correct. Olivera is not talking trash, very respectful, very nice …. And he is one of the most interesting fighther to watch today. Impressive. He does exactly what joe said, exactly
As soon as Oliveira signed up with UFC, I went to one of his pre fight camp, I was BJJ purple belt that time, man, I did train with the lightweight UFC champ...I am soooo glad.... Macaco Gold Team....

I think that along with jiu jitsu, Charles' mentality is one of his strongest things. It's like he says, he has a champion mentality, and he's shielded by it. I started to respect him even more after this fight against Gaethje. Where is your mindset after losing a belt before the fight? Where is your mindset when your dad calls crying asking what had happened? Where is your mindset when your 5 years old daughter calls asking if the belt is no longer yours? Where is your mindset? A legend, went there, knocked out and submitted gaethje, in the first round. Nothing enters this man's mind. The true Champion
That calf slicer is all you need to know about Do Bronx's submission game lol. I thought he was gonna tear the calf from the knee. Also the armbar he put Tony Ferguson in was insane. Only a person who has zero self concern like Tony doesn't tap to that LMAO.

Joes right on, Islams comments on Charles were really off putting, showed zero respect and acted like he has already beat him with ease and like he’s a 10x defending champion. Made the classic mistake of calling him weak and a quitter based off his fights from over 5 years ago, ignoring the entire 11 fight win streak and who he currently has become. Islam can think he can beat him and that’s fine, but disrespecting and insulting a legend is very distasteful and makes me wanna see Olivera humble him
Islam predicts oliveira,s victory against justin . He respect charles skill set but he also mentioned the flaws of these strikers (justin,Dustin,Chandler) they knocked down charles on the ground but couldn’t have the ability to grapple with oliviera in that perspective he mentioned that I’m different from these strikers I’ve everything I know how to strike, kick, and most importantly I have the ability to wrestle with my opponent infact everyone knows me as a wrestler! Thats what islam says in his interview. I think islam vs charles is going to be thrilling fight if that happened in the near future! We all wanna see this fight!
@@untzuntz3000 if you can calibrate 1 scale to be accurate you can calibrate 5 thats the whole point of calibration is the scale is initially off and you calibrate to be almost exact to the official

What really got me was on DC interview when he said hes got no wife or kids. What he and all of us have is right now today. Tomorrow’s never promised.
Sorry but Joe is wrong here. The Arizona commission isn't in charge of the scales that the UFC provides in the back. The Arizona commission is in only in charge of the official scale which they said they rechecked to make sure it was calibrated. Uncalibrated scales provided by the UFC is their issue and not Arizona's. Also, Charles had a tough weight cut (why else would he be the last to weigh in?). Charles' story isn't squeaky clean either.
It was a pound for some, because they werent properly communicated. One of them was Charles team, everybody dropped more than they were initially planning, but Charles had to do more because the weight limot os more strict for Champions. Gaethje, Rose and Carla did mande weight because they weight in pounds not kilos, so a day before they already knew
What bothers me is that even after making weight, over the next 24 hours most fighters blow up 5 - 10 pounds before the fight as soon as they re-hydrate. So missing weight by one pound should really be a non issue. I can see having to split the purse, but having to vacate a belt because of 1 pound? That's a bit much.
They coming in the fight heavier than 5-10 lbs after 24hrs! But gotta hit the exact weight or you missed it! (Scale discrepancy is another story in itself, it’s a tough one in this case )
@@steves8362 My point being, weighing in a day prior to the fight essentially makes the scale irrelevant to begin with. Considering how much weight they put on in the 24 hours between the scale and the cage. Now if they were to weigh the fighters right before they entered the octagon, I could see the need to be on the dot with weight. So really 1 pound over a day prior to the fight shouldn't force a champion to vacate his title. If they wanted to penalize their pay, like they've done in the past, that would be more realistic. If the scales really were off, they need to reinstate his title and double his pay as well as issue an apology from the fight commission of that state. Either way it was a great fight mired in controversy.
@@JonJon-pj9ly to be fair I have no idea what kind of scales they used lol, but I've used both industrial and regular scales and they all (electronic ones anyway) seem to have a button/option to converse the scale to either pounds or kgs without having to recalibrate them after you do. But I'm just a casual so tbh what the fk would I know 😅🤷

Besides that, we watched the most rigorous behavior from an athletic commission in the history of the sport and the most careless weight in for a champ I have ever seen, without even letting the scale stabilize properly. Can you imagine what would happen if it was the other way around, Gaethje as a champ and it happening in Brazil? It would be crazy-town and I bet the UFC would give him the champion belt regardless of the 0.5 pounds. Ariel Helwani is right: Oliveira got screwed.
