i think a large part of why the city retained it’s uniqueness was cause it wasn’t completely burned to ashes by sherman during the civil war unlike atlanta
City of Charleston=gentrified North Charleston=head on swivel at all times. Charleston used to be a war zone but certain people realized how much money was to be made and ran/ priced locals out. Born and raised in Columbia with plenty fam in the chuck so all the out of state ppl please believe just a few short years ago a lot of yall would have been a victim on these pretty ass streets
This is a great place to live. The people here are friendly and his characterization of that neighborhood is wrong. I live here, I know. It's not the greatest neighborhood but it's a lot better then most of the US.
Oh stop, I live in Charleston SC. This vid was captured on the east end of the Charleston peninsula and to call this neighborhood "dangerous" is just silly. For those in other places; I would have no problem walking through this neighborhood, at night. Most interactions on the street would probably involve a: "How ya doin?"
You never go to BTG = Back To Green that’s Flood St on the west side with the colorful project. And N Romney St on the east side of Charleston. Which are few of the last standing active hoods in downtown Charleston for violent crime and homicides visit North Charleston
I agree with you and Killa-P, Kevin. I was born in Charleston SC, went to school there. Literally half my life and this ain’t it. I was saying what Killa-p was saying the whole video.
It's still not as bad as bad areas in other cities. Most of the ppl are friendly. My friend lived in a house at the corner of Nassau & Line St. Supposed to be one of the worst areas. I'd go down & walk her dog when she couldn't be there bc of her late-night job. I'd walk around at 1 am & had no problems. Admittedly it was a big dog (a Newfie) but still. They'd usually say hi or nod & smile, if I passed them, maybe make a joke about the "bear" on the leash & that was it. Most of the crime is personal in nature. They rarely go after random ppl.
Born+raised in Charleston and grew up on James Island. There is absolutely no danger in downtown Charleston. Head to Remount Rd in North Charleston and explore the streets....it's a different story.
I live in Philly, so ummm this whole video I was thinking how nice it would be to move down there. I’m comparison to Philly, where I might not survive the summer!
@@BalrogUdun 🥹😅😂 i see what you did there and it’s understandable, the disdain southerners have for Notherners. But y’all South Caroliners have cheaper homes and less ppl in whatever y’all think is a Major City down there, but y’all think it’s bad down there but Philly, B-More, and The Bronx it’s tuff out here in these streets. Life is miserable!
@@marqueshindsman7379 Don't listen to that fool...Visit try to get to know the city/area and see if you can make the move...Plus most black northerns have ties to the Carolinas where not strangers...
Charleston is one of the nicest “hoods” you’ll see. Gentrification is taking over slowly but surely. Another 10-20 years, those complexes you passed will be gone with apartments in its place.
You never go to BTG = Back To Green that’s Flood St on the west side with the colorful project. And N Romney St on the east side of Charleston. Which are few of the last standing active hoods in downtown Charleston for violent crime and homicides visit North Charleston
Gentrification started in Charleston 30 years ago this is the result… you couldn’t drive through this neighborhood 20 years ago unless you were buying drugs
"Charleston most Dangerous Streets"....Really? When I saw this title and watched the video, it amazed me! I have lived in Charleston SC for 40 years and I have watched it change right before my eyes. The "Dangerous streets", as you called them is definitely not a valid description of these areas. The area that you were driving through is called the East side and you would have not been able to film this 10 years ago. I am in my 50's and when I was a child, you didn't go to the "East Side", of Charleston, unless you knew someone in that area. This depiction of this areas now, is just a plan misrepresentation & prove that you are misinformed about the years of progress in the City of Charleston. As your viewers can see from the video, the newly developed houses have been taking place in the downtown neighborhood's, for several years now. Houses that have been abandoned, have tax liens, foreclosures or simply sold of out ignorance of there true value, to big players, have made these very streets that your showing, a lot safer. This is called "Gentrification", and it has effected small black businesses, as well as, the lower-class black residential areas. Now, in these so called "Dangerous Streets", a white person can not only walk down the street, day or night, but can live in this area as well. No disrespect to you or your viewers but anywhere "Gentrification" takes place, you better know, that they will make it safer for them to live, then for the people they moved out! Is it good for the city? Of course. Does it get rid of the riff raffs & crime? Sure. Was the financial transactions for these houses done fairly, and given full disclosure of future property value to black families? My intuition, experience and knowledge of history of the way this country conducts its business, leaves me doubtful. These very houses, now, are worth close to a half a million dollars in value, in downtown Charleston. Please don't give your viewers misinformation because I know from living here, that these very streets are no worst then other cities and certainly better now then in the past.
I grew up in downtown Charleston too… I just turned 40… I get your point, but when I was coming up the city was dangerous… Burke was like lean on me & we had metal detectors in rivers middle school.. a lot has changed, but the history is the history
@@eriq54321 then where’s the trash or boarded up windows? There’s no way this is anywhere close to being as bad as parts of Atlanta, Philly, Baltimore, etc. there’s no way this is a dangerous part of Charleston. Looks gentrified to me
@@Eman1900O you would be correct. Older folks say it used to be but I wouldn’t know myself. I’m guessing they’re telling the truth. Sure there’s some violence and crime in Charleston but yeah today on the peninsula it’s not the same category as other cities like you mentioned
Charleston South Carolina, born and raised. They call us the New Orleans of South Carolina. Very laid back, chill, slower paced style. Folks come to visit and then end up moving here. Prices are hiking because everybody wants to come down after retirement. VISIT Charleston and we will welcome you with open arms, but PLEASE go back home! LOL.
New Orleans, Charleston, Savannah and maybe Miami have the same type of energy and image. I get like a voodoo slave plantation bayou vibe from these cities.
@@Eman1900O the area driven is the most dangerous on the peninsula, by far. West Ashley by the 526 is also sketchy. North Charleston, it’s own city and where the airport is, is overall more dangerous.
@@herewegoagin4667 I can’t say that because some black Americans I know actually are from east Africa and have no knowledge of anything concerning west African culture. Also I know some who are native Americans. They also have no personal connection with west Africa. So it’s pretty hard to say that if you don’t know “all black Americans “
@@MistaC864 The Black Americans who are from East Africa are East African immigrants and their children, and clearly I'm not referring to them. NO and I mean NONE of, Black Americans are Native Americans without being mixed with West Africans. You can believe those made lies if you like, that's on you!
Two streets you should always avoid are America street and president street. It’s actually cleaned up a lot since I was a kid and he wasn’t in the hood really.
@CharlieBo313 you gotta find a old video of this neighborhood or any hood downtown Charleston it look like Baltimore or Philly very scary to drive through. Its renovated and gentrified now you gotta show the before and after.
He's driving through the area of Charleston with the most crime statistically. It's not constant, like say, NYC or Baltimore. Also, some of the roughest areas in the US can appear very calm depending upon the season and time of day.
How do you know if it's dangerous? Have you lived there through the night? I'm just saying I need to find out I'm just trying to find out this is what the title said the most dangerous places in Charleston South Carolina.
Be nice to know some of the Street Names. Are these the streets near the Citadel or over next to MUSC hospital or maybe close to Harris Teeter. We go their often. Some of these streets look rough but the people are actually really nice. So not fair for you to ride around the streets and make people think they are all bad. Don't care for your videos. Need discretions.
I can tell by your skin color you are not from that neighborhood. I grew up in Charleston, on Rutledge Ave. I did not go to that neighborhood as a kid or adult. Charleston has a high crime rate per capita and just a few years ago it was #12 for crime rate in the entire country. You are living in an area that has seen tremendous gentrification since 2002. Please don't tell people who grew up here what it was like. I walked into a gun fight going to class at Burke High School in 96. Kids were terrorized in the local middle schools in the 90's here. I finally had enough and transferred to a private school because I was scared to go the school. The are just started getting a little safe in the pass 4 years.
I was born & raised on the westside of downtown, Charleston before gentrification, the. city looks nothing like it did 30 years ago. When I was coming up you couldn’t even walk outside of your immediate neighborhood safely without a weapon & tourist never ventured past the market(tourist) areas after dark & never on foot. Even though some of these neighborhoods have changed, the people who are actually from Charleston (college students, seasonal beach bums, or summer bar hoppers not included) know better than riding or walking around these nice looking neighborhoods at dark … unfortunately a lot of tourists & college students find out the hard way…
No this is well kept sc and nc not that rough ....... I've never met nobody from sc or NC with a war mentality ....... Yhats good by the way but there is nothing hood about this
Lived here 20 years. There is NOTHING dangerous about that area! Nothing at all. Pure hype from a person that doesn’t have a clue…you want bad, go to North Charleston. Downtown is all pretty tame.
you dont know what youre talking about north charleston is a suburb of charleston eastside was always the most dangerous downtown charleston has been the most gentrified city in the country the past 20 years you cant judge the city after its been gentrified north charleston is country.
@@louisp.3332 you said youve been in Charleston 20 years, in 2006 the corner of Nassau and line alone had the most murders out of any neighborhood in the Charleston metro region and that's just a corner not to mention the whole neighborhood. Anybody that knows Charleston knows your statement is false. You said there's nothing dangerous about that area which even if it was true now, it has not been true the past 20 years which makes your statement false and clearly someone who does not know about the neighborhood.
