Socialism may be popular among Generation Z, but history shows us just how dangerous, damaging and deadly socialist societies are.
Charlie Kirk squares off against self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist professor Ben Burgis to debate why conservative populism, and limitations on governmental and corporate power, is key to protecting our freedoms.

It's a real shame that a large majority of leftists don't believe that, they don't believe in honest dialogue, they don't believe in logic or truth or reason, they don't believe in objective truth, I don't think they actually believe in anything, that's why they're not even willing to protect free speech, they don't believe that speech results in anything good, while I still believe that the majority of people on Earth understand that speech and dialogue is important and the only way for us to find truth, there are a lot of people who reject that and ultimately if we can't speak one another to find common ground, then the only alternative is war, we used to know this, we are really losing connection with everything true and good and real in life and if we don't stand up for it, we're going to lose civilization altogether

@skanda1832 2 года назад
@@hoepiesmile1764 I think it's important to note, a person who makes more than 35K a year, is technically in the top 1% of highest earners globally. When starting a business, my business partners (childhood friends) and I paid ourselves 24k/year for the first 5 years and 48k for 5 years after that (while living in Southern California mind you). We shared 2 and 3 bedroom apartments not far from the beach (sometimes sleeping in closets) and used them as our corporate offices. We ate simply, e.g., beans, rice, veg, fruit (and a whole lot of superfood smoothies with green powders etc.) and surfed on old, beat up surfboards for fun (and mostly free). 20 years later, we're "rich" and can now afford to start families. Building wealth in one generation takes sacrifice, discipline and grit in America but absolutely doable. Building wealth in one generation under socialism is statistically improbable and by taking away the incentives for entrepreneurialism/innovation, make the culture lackluster and infantilized (nanny states are creepy/perverse, imho). The red tape and bureaucracy that comes with socialism is infuriating too. Nothing worse than being micromanaged and patronized in my view. I think it's easy to become miscalibrated as Americans when we're in the early, painstaking stages of building wealth and become envious and resentful of those who've succeeded in securing theirs. Traveling to 2nd and 3rd world countries is often helpful in recalibrating one's expectations. Hope this helps.

FYI I watched my siblings when I was. Newlywed, we all had nothing at the time, my brother and sister decided to buy a house, go into debt, buy new furniture, new this, new that. My husband and I used all of our HARD aren’t savings to buy an apartment building, that definitely did not help us afford more in life, in fact, we were knee high in debt to the bank and therefore, did not buy a house, we rented, all of our furniture were hand me downs, we have 4 children and struggled to pay the rent at times. WE went without when we were young so we could have an EASY life as we get older! We are both now in our late 40’s and we own a few companies and still have our apartment building which now does make us. Lovely sum of money. My husband has worked 7 days a week, and hustled for many many years! My siblings still struggle financially and my husbands siblings do too. Why should we have to give more to people who have nothing, made wrong decisions in life or didn’t care to work S hard S my husband did?? Why should we go without again because now we get large sums of money taken from us due to us going without when we were young??? NO! It is not ok to tax the rich because the poor have decided to be poor and have no idea about money!!

We have $15 minimum wage (people are offering $20 since Covid, to try and incentivize people back to work) in WA State. My kids get paid $15 for working in fast food or cashier positions, but so do factory employees, nursing assistants, and other positions with more physically demanding or more educational/technological training when starting out- that's only ONE problem-with that kind of wage, businesses of any size can only afford to hire part time and very few full-time employees-if any, because they won't have to shoulder the cost of health insurance as well. It's not because business owners dont want people to have health insurance, they simply can't pay for it. When you legislate how much a business is required to pay its employees, you also legislate how much profit they are able to make. The more the wage increase, the more people lose their jobs, get their hours cut, and either lose health insurance or won't be eligible for any in the first place. Businesses just can't pay out what they're required to with these ridiculously high wages, keep their normal number of employees, and then make any sort of profit worth keeping a business open. Socialism DOES NOT work. EQUITY DOES NOT WORK, it never has. It is destroying our Democrat States and will destroy our country eventually, if we dont get control of it.

Raising the federal minimum wage will cause businesses to increase prices. Increased prices affect EVERYONE making EVERYONES dollar worth less. Then I would also want a decent wage increase based off the skill level needed for my job. Leave the wage determination to the States. Employees can choose where they want to work. As far as universal health care, no. Then the government has a say in your treatment. If the government is already willing to use tax payer dollars to cover health care, why don't they subsidize employee premiums to reduce costs to the employee and cover the cost of COBRA for 6-12 months (based on job market) to allow the employee to leave a job they aren't happy with? Other countries have figured out answers to all those questions, and their systems are so popular that even the right-wing parties pretend to support them (like how the GOP pretends to support social security and Medicare here). An honest comparison of healthcare systems around the world makes it clear that the Government is just more efficient at providing healthcare than the private sector. The UK spends 40% of what we spend on healthcare as a percentage of GDP and gets better outcomes, because it's run by the government. Canada spends about half what we do and gets better outcomes because the government runs insurance but not the hospitals.

Companies already offer many benefits that are taken for granted - health care, 401k, incentives, profit sharing, etc. So is he saying it's not enough? When would it be enough? He DOES know more than Charlie. He's literally a professor who has dedicated his life to studying. Charlie is a college dropout who's had everything handed to him by his rich mommy and daddy and gets paid millions to spread conservative propaganda and misinformation. Seriously, imagine unironically thinking Charlie Kirk is an authority on ANYTHNG. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

When minimum wages went up drastically in Oregon, I moved closer to making minimum wage because businesses do not raise everyone's wages equally. Those making the minimum saw their rates go up, while mine stayed close to the same. So, ultimately minimum wage increases are just a tool to help make everyone equally poor. This guy is full of it if he thinks purchasing power goes up with the minimum wage. I had more purchasing power when I made $2.25 an hour than I do these days.

Agree with Charlie on most things but he and so many others are totally wrong about the Post Office. It is a SERVICE, not a BUSINESS. No one references how every police force loses money, or fire fighters. Of course they do, because they aren’t meant to generate revenue - they’re meant to provide a service to America. FedEx and UPS took that service and tried to monetize it but only to the extent that they can. They also both use the Post Office when it comes to delivering parcels and letters to places they don’t go because it’s not worth it. Conservatives shitting on the Post Office only go to show how little they understand about it. Guess who abolishing the post office affects? Poor rural people. It quite literally would only affect conservatives. The Post Office hate is a shame and a disservice to how fundamental they’ve been to this country. And still are.

So I'm about 10 minutes in and have quite a few thoughts. However, I'd like to give credit where it's due. 💚 It takes human decency, intelligence & extreme courage to sit down and talk rationally with someone who holds views that you wholeheartedly disagree with. Unfortunately, there is such a lack of civil discourse in this country right now & it's incredibly sad. NO AMERICAN should ever be hindered from expressing their viewpoints. It's the only way we can hear differing opinions, in order to grow and learn. Major props to you both, especially your guest, who really put himself out there. 👍👏

Ben dances around offering supporting evidence and almost exclusively makes unsubstantiated value claims. He says, “well, I don’t trust government, but the government I want would be offering support FOR you and not doing things TO you.” That’s an ambiguous value claim and it’s a lie. He’s saying that HIS government would be powerful enough to do what HE says is good and shove HIS values down the throats of all people. In his opinion, that is doing something for you rather than to you, but for anyone who disagrees… he says too bad, I’m going to do this TO you.

Just curious, how/why did they fail?
@mranonomousperson
@mranonomousperson 2 года назад
@@delilah9334 Basically because crime and fires can spread and get out of control if only the rich can pay for police and fire. It's just a lot more efficient for the government to provide these services. The same is true of infectious diseases and this is one reason that public healthcare systems tend to be a lot less expensive for an given level of public health compared to a private systems across countries (IMO this is not the only reason, but one important reason). In ancient Rome, private fire brigades were so exploitative that they would basically coerce people into selling their estates to them dirt cheap before putting out the fire on their newly acquired property. This is where the term "fire sale" comes from.
