It's about time to set things straight. Kate kept asking for better scripts but wasn't listened to. When Kate wasn't allowed to do "Kramer vs. Kramer" oh yesss, she got really frustrated! And these creeps deserved it for not trying hard enough! When Kate left the show went downhill. There was no way back. None of the other angels, no T&A and no dumb scripts could save it. They had to learn the hard way. Like so many they had underestimated Kate in many ways. Her girl-next-door beauty and her charisma, her being the only believable detective on the show and of course her fabulous acting skills were irreplacable. CA had no future without Kate Jackson. And went south big time! Check this out. This is very interesting, too. This is what a guy has to say who actually worked on Charlie's Angels: "Kate didn't hate Cheryl because she replaced Farrah. That's nonsense. Cheryl is the bitch- not Kate. I worked on Charlie's Angels the first couple of seasons. What a fucking madhouse. But Kate was very nice to people, including the people working on the set who weren't "stars". People liked her. She was more down to Earth in many ways. Farrah was very sweet, and she had a great sense of humor in the sense that she'd laugh at everyone's jokes (even when they were rather lame. :)) She was beautiful, but I always remember her as being rather petite (which is not really borne out by the videos i see of her). I remember her that way though. I don't think she was very tall. That set was fucking crazy.There was so much activity all the time, it drove me crazy. Hair and make-up (people) were always flying around between takes, and it drove Kate crazy frankly. I don't think Jackie was too crazy about it either. Farrah was always such a damn good sport, she never seemed to mind. I never met an actress who was so agreeably nice all the time. It got annoying sometimes. :) But the other girls loved her. Cheryl was a fucking nuisance from day one. She seemed nice enough at first, but that fucking husband of hers was always showing up on set "monitoring" her treatment. He worked in the biz, if I remember correctly, and I think his dad had been a movie star from the great old days. I don't remember who. And for someone who was plucked from obscurity she acted like her shit didn't stink. She ordered people around like she was the Queen of Sheba. I remember her ordering someone to get her a soft drink once, and the poor girl brought her the wrong one. you would've thought the girl had killed her dog, the way that Ladd carried on. I know that Kate hated her for that shit. Kate was a pro - she never treated people like that. Cheryl was not a nice person. Plus, Ladd and her husband were BIG time Republicans. And very conservative. Now, this did not sit well with Jackson who was always a big liberal. I have no idea what Jackie was politically, but when Ladd started talking politics, Jackie would apparently always find some polite excuse to leave. You have to understand- Farrah had been a ray of sunshine on that set. She was always so goddamn pleasant and happy. :) Then Ladd comes along, and she's a little bitch who acts like the world owes her something, and that she should be treated like a Queen. That creates a LOT of tension, particularly given the comparison. And Ladd really didn't have much interest in befriending the other girls anyway- she was really not a friendly girl."
@@dkblack3461 You are welcome! I found this a while ago on a forum. So I copied it. There had also been a discussion and a lot of unjustified negative talk about Kate Jackson. So that guy wrote this very enlightening post to set things straight and I was very happy and relieved he did.
@@19CALI_sunnyv Jackson didn't hate Ladd. I think that is too strong. No one says Jackson disliked Ladd because she replaced Fawcett. Jackson had reason to resent Ladd, but it was through no fault of Ladd's. And Ladd was not by any means plucked from obscurity. And it's odd that someone who worked in the business didn't know more about Ladd's husband's father. Jackson was difficult on set and lost it after they prevented her doing Kramer vs Kramer. I do sympathise with her for that. They should have let her do it. It was brutal what they did to her. But she was making trouble before that.
The majority of people see the Original cast as the real true cast. I'm sure some think otherwise. I bet less than 1% think of the movie cast as Charlie's Angels.
To be honest, My favorite are the original 3 Angels. The first season was the best and the original 3 had the best chemistry. I will say that Cheryl Ladd was just as pretty as Farrah...possibly even prettier although Farrah had the best hair in season 1. I think Cheryl Ladd's looks - face and definitely body helped the public accept her. Physically, she was a perfect replacement. However, Farrah was special. If you watch old interviews - Farrah was never boring. Some of Cheryl's interviews almost put me to sleep. Cheryl seems sweet but Farrah had that magic. Also, I don't like how the character of Kris Monroe was made to look like a wimp sometimes. In some episodes, Cheryl Ladd could fight, but overrall, she definitely got her ass beat more than any of the other Angels on the show.
This show exists because of Kate Jackson's great creative input. She was the best actress and it showed. She was the one who dared to stand up to those lecherous macho producers. And got trashed and the tabloids picked it up. Lesson learned, you don't do Kate Jackson dirty, idiots! Kate left all the backstabbers behind and the show jumped the shark.
I can understand Kate Jackson's frustration but it wasn't right for her to take it out on Cheryl. It wasn't Cheryl's fault that she replaced Farrah. Farrah was promised the stars and believed her own hype. The only one to remain grounded in all of this brouhaha was the oh so elegant and ever beautiful, Jaclyn Smith. Karma catches up with people.....look at what happened to Farrah, God love her.....and Kate's reputation for being difficult has cast a dark shadow over her career. You reap what you sow. Jaclyn has remained positive about Charlie's Angels and has nothing bad to say about any of her costars. She's successful, happily married, a philanthropist and a classy woman who exudes positivity in everything. No wonder she was always and will always be my favorite angel.
Kate was a strong woman who stood up for the other girls. She was very outspoken. And in that 1970s men's world you had to be a strong woman to endure those lecherous guys. And Nolan Miller truly hated her because she refused to play along his stupid fashion game. She looked gorgeous in whatever she wore. Had it not been for Kate the show wouldn't exist. And when she left, the show went south. The producers and their entourage should have listened to her. Their loss.

And not surprised Cheryl is a b***h! She always seemed so cold. And her trying to be sexy when she's not. Ridiculous!
@@19CALI_sunnyv Thank you for posting this. I am completely shocked about that person's experience with Cheryl. She was my number #1 crush as a youngster and what you say about her is crushing my world but I would rather know the truth about her than be delusional. I always thought that Kate was the bad person. But the producers should have let Kate do Kramer vs. Kramer. It was a big ratings drop when Kate left so in terms of screen presence and acting, you have to give Cheryl credit for that, for helping keep Charlie's Angels going. But wow, I never would have guessed that she was a total bitch! Crazy! Thanks for sharing.
+Monica Blom Cheryl also sang. She provided the singing voice (as Cherie Moor) for Melody for the Josie and the Pussycats cartoon. She also had a solo album and a hit with "Think It Over".
@Sebastian Sutton Farrah, Cheryl, and let's never forget about Jaclyn Smith. Actually, Jaclyn Smith dedicated all five years to that show and she even guest appeared in both reboot movies. In fact, it was Jaclyn's idea to make Kelly Garrett become the new Charlie.
Kate Jackson seems like she has a mean streak. Yeah, you think of her, Farrah, and Jacqueline... but what about Cheryl Ladd? She was very popular as an angel as well, and was there for all but the first season. Cheryl was able to successfully replace Farrah, the most popular angel first season, so she can't just be disregarded like Shelley Hack.
What about Cheryl?? She was snake in the grass who sabotaged Kate behind the scenes. Talk about a mean streak! When asked how it was to work with Cheryl, Kate said, "Fine, you just have to allow extra time to remove the knife from your back" (paraphrase).
Let's see... Cheryl Ladd... wasn't that the one who had an affair with ugly Ed Lakso. No, that wasn't a question!... And that's all I need to know about the short one with the mean streak. So desperate... Oh and Ladd didn't save the show. Period! Where was she when Kate left? Did she save the show? Far from it!
@@Kandik93 Shelley was blamed for the low ratings earned by the solo Angel episodes that featured Cheryl (or Jaclyn). Read that again. Really stupid, right? The solo Angel episodes proved that Cheryl and Jaclyn could not carry a show. Viewers turned up and made the premiere episode of Season 4 No.1 in the ratings for the week obviously because of Shelley, but show quickly dissipated that advantage by underusing Shelley and badmouthing her as a bad actress.
Right! The badmouthers and backstabbers should be deeply ashamed of themselves. They badmouthed Kate, then Shelley. Neither Cheryl nor Jaclyn were able to carry the show after Kate left. But Shelley gets blamed for it all. Creeps!
i actually liked scarecrow and mrs. king! not sure if it's actually cheryl that kate seemed to resent? or could it be that kate was reacting to the producers' apparent notion that a bikini girl was all the show needed, at a time when kate (and farrah) and the show as a whole were begging to earn some respect from the public. that was pretty obvious in the way they put cheryl in bikinis on a regular basis. they were also hoping to get another bikini girl after kate (claudia jennings, barbara bach and cornelia sharpe have all done some baring on-screen) and didn't know what to do when they ended up with the pretty, funny and fashionable shelley hack. what a shame and terrible waste of talent! they tried again with tanya, who promptly drove the show to cancellation hell
thats kinda the same take i interpertaed by kate, she wanted growth and less of this sexist stulff and barry rosensweig agreed but goldberg fought him every step of the way Aaron suposedly said just get the hair right and at least one scene with at least one girl in a bikini and all the rest is just noise.cheryl was new and willing to don a bikini and thats what i think kate didn't care for because it went against what kate was trying to do for all of them, she was demanding better scripts and she said she demanded better from herself and the others
Very well said. Totally agree! I only watched because of Kate. She was awesome. The beautiful, smart and charismatic angel. And I loved her sense of humor. Her acting skills were superb! It showed in nuances!
@filomango69 I like your comment. Well, there were a couple of reasons why things got really really difficult for Kate and then also for the crew. She was the co-creator of the show. It was her who had come up with the name Charlie's Angels. Many people who so enjoy bashing Kate have no idea about these things and what she had done for the show. Kate was also promised a detective show with more depth. Certainly not T&A and increasingly bad scripts. She was outspoken, wanted better scripts but wasn't listened to. She wasn't allowed to do Kramer vs. Kramer (a once in a lifetime opportunity that would have led to other movie roles). There were a couple reasons she couldn't stand Cheryl. In one of my posts in this whole thread you can see what a guy has to say who had actually worked on the Charlie's Angels set!! It's very telling! (people on the set did actually like Kate but not Cheryl...). The two had also worked on the film "Satan's School for Girls" in 1973. Who knows what had happened there that was the beginning of Kate's dislike for Cheryl. So I guess several reasons, not just one. Good reasons! In any case, Charlie's Angels couldn't exist without Kate Jackson. She was the glue that held it all together. The unconventional fascinating Angel, very attractive in her own way (not the classic, conventional princess-type beauty or sex kitten that appeals to your Average-Joe). The only Angel who could really act! When you look at those scripts she spun crap to gold! None of the others could pull that off. So Charlie's Angels went downhill without Kate Jackson. A tough lesson for the producers and their entourage. Yess!!
I think there is a lot of truth in what you say. There were philosophical or "creative differences" involved. Kate wanted to make the show more serious and more a "quality show". The producers wanted bikinis and only cared about the ratings. Ladd has gone on record a number of times saying she wanted to make the show more funny and campy. Ladd seemed to accept that the show was just light entertainment (she even said once that aspects of it were ridiculous but that that made it funny) but wanted to make it higher quality light entertainment. Ladd wasn't happy with all the bikinis and rebelled on one occasion at least. But I don't think her protests achieved much as far as the bikinis were concerned although I do think she managed to shift the show the way she wanted it to go to some extent. But she didn't go head to head or toe to toe with the producers the way Kate Jackson did. Whether Ladd had less integrity than Jackson or was more realistic in trying to bring about change more subtly from within, depends on your prejudices. Ladd may have been more sensible it fearing that too much public resistance would be counter-productive in that it would just make the show worse. Jackson and her husband rubbished the show in the media and Jackson's husband said that Kate had problems with both Smith and Ladd because the former was only interested in material comfort and the latter only interested in becoming a star. You can argue matters any old which way. Did Jackson have more integrity and was she more principled than Ladd or was Ladd more sensible and realistic in realising that Jackson was hitting her head against a brick wall where the producers were concerned and was attempting to make CA into something it wasn't and could never be? Reading between the lines of a lot of Ladd's comments she seemed to accept that CA was fluff and would never be anything but fluff but hoped to make it more superior fluff by putting more humour and satire into the mix. This ran counter to Jackson's desire (as I understand it) which was to make CA a serious police procedural type program that provided telling social insight. Who do I think was right? I haven't the faintest idea.

Your saying "someone who worked on the CA set" is an immediate red flag. This is too vague to be given a shred of credence. Anyone could have made that up. After watching many interviews with both Jackson and Ladd, I know who gives me the impression of being the more friendly and amiable. Your hatred for Ladd borders on the outright crazy. I don't hate Jackson and I accept she was the best actor on the show. You are obviously a huge Kate Jackson fan and while there is nothing wrong with this in itself, you won't enhance her stature by rubbishing everyone she's had differences with.
Sneaky Cheryl was a nobody when she got the role - and became a diva right away. Kate hated how Cheryl treated those who worked on the set. People seem to overlook the fact that it's always been Cheryl Ladd who brings up how Kate Jackson hates her. Whereas Kate never mentioned what a major diva Ladd was behind the scenes. Jackson is a class act. Ladd not so much.
Kate, Farrah and Jaclyn. Cheryl worked as a replacement as long as Kate was on the show. After she left it jumped the shark. The other two replacments were just that. Replacements.
I wish put all DVD or blueray DVD all seasons I watch them on TV back start on TV. I enjoy watch them first start I collecting play cards if my mom have them . All mix up items down stairs. With gum buy in store years back. I enjoy watch show. Nice look back 1970s wish put more in Target or walmart store. DVDs or blueray all seasons. If I was my idea open store old classic movies buy. Back old days movies on TV because hard find show watch on old TV can't find online. Like classic show on Tv and movies. People like me enjoy so much. Video all three 1000% I still think all three Charle Angel were no1 my list sad lots problem they had. . We're best actors. A plus.
Farrah was great. And so was Kate. They had fantastic chemistry and complemented each other in looks and sense of humor. I loved them both with Kate being my No. 1 and Farrah my No. 2. However, it was Kate who anchored the show. And when she left it all went downhill. No one could replace Kate Jackson.
