So ironic how these male creators of the show talk about it being a great emancipation for female roles, yet totally control the freedom of the actresses.
Wow what an awful and disrespectful documentary! It is painful to see how these macho men are allowed to do a hatchet job on Kate Jackson!!! I can't stand their mocking and smug smiles. They are embarrassing and disgusting and should be ashamed of themselves!!! I loved watching Charlie's Angels. Because of Kate Jackson. She was so incredibly beautiful, strong, cool and very charismatic. And I loved that the three women were best friends. But behind the scenes it was still a 1970's men's world. Kate was an assertive, smart, young woman who stood up for better scripts and other improvements. She was also protective of the other girls. Jaclyn has confirmed that. Kate wanted to make the show as good as possible. After all had it not been for her there would be no Charlie's Angels at all! She invented the name, she suggested they be private detectives instead of police women. The mysterious Charlie who they never see was also Kate's input. Of course Kate never got credit for this. Why am I not surprised. When the producers didn't allow her to play the female part in Kramer vs. Kramer it is perfectly understandable she got very frustrated! Who wouldn't! And yes, she is an excellent actress. Besides being the smart one, she had many fun scenes, great action scenes, she did cop like none of the others and it was also the subtleties in her acting that I enjoyed. With due respect but none of the other angels could pull that off. So no surprise after Kate left, the show went south. Finally the executives realized that they couldn't improve the show just with bikinis, skimpy dresses and a lack of depth. Without Kate it just didn't work. Well too late guys! You should have listened to Kate Jackson. And being more respectful would have helped, too. Your loss!
Kate Jackson was just jealous. All the other women jacklyn, Cheryl, and Tanya Roberts were all better looking or had a better body. Body wise Cheryl and Roberts made Kate Jackson look plain.

Hey, I love the way men think. Kate Jackson was suppose to feel insecure because two other pretty women were on the show. She was on Dark Shadows and the Rookies but it was her beauty that everyone noticed and not the fact she could act rings around most of the women out there.
I call BS on their reasons for letting Shelley Hack go. Shelley did a good job. They knew what kind of actress she was when she auditioned for the show. She probably wouldn't sleep with one of the producers or something like that so that is probably why they let her go.
I Loved Kate. She brought beauty plus intelligence, deep sensibility, spontaneous humor; It was uncomfortable to see the other girls running, fighting, scaping from dead in high heels.
Farrah asked for too much but she and the other ladies deserved more considering the success of the show. I think it was a mistake for her to leave and she should’ve stayed on but asked for breaks for movies. For them all. This Kate bashing is BS. These men didn’t like a strong woman wanting things done a certain way. If she were a man she would be called assertive rather than bitchy. Kate had every right to want the show to be a success and be angry at not being allowed to do a movie. She also wasn’t fired. She left. They wanted her to stay.
The producers wouldn't let Kate go to star in Kramer vs Kramer with Dustin Hoffman. Yes, the Meryl Streep role was Kate's originally. She bitterly resented it and made sure to make season 3 as miserable as possible. I don't blame her. Farrah was also blacklisted for a while after leaving. The producers threatened to sue anyone who hired her. So, the men in charge bullied these women in every which way. I still believe something bad happened between the producers and Shelley. They were planting hit pieces about her to the Enquirer by the 3rd episode.
Yes, Aaron Spelling did Kate dirty! And by doing so he killed his own show. Here's what happened after Kate Jackson landed the Kramer vs. Kramer part: Though the producers of Kramer changed the movie’s schedule three times to accommodate Kate's Charlie’s Angels schedule, Aaron Spelling was determined not to let her do the movie. He switched her Angels schedule every time so the new Kramer schedule didn’t work. Finally he told the producers, “If she does the movie, it will never see the light of day!” because he’d file an injunction against them. Spelling was afraid if any of the actresses did a movie, they would think they were movie stars and leave the show. How wrong he was! If he had allowed Kate to take that golden opportunity, she would have stayed with the show as long as it lasted. He needlessly, intentionally kept Kate from doing Kramer. So she decided she would finish that third season, then leave the show.

Nolan Miller was a major creep! He was pissed off because Kate Jackson wasn't going to have his stupid glamour stuff. Apparently he needed someone to pick on. After Kate it was Shelley Hack. Go figure. He hated Kate Jackson because she dared to stand up to him and she wasn't into glam and fashion? Then he begged Spelling to hire Shelley Hack and next thing he hates her, too. Even calls her a bitch! Insulting these women publicly? That costume designer must've had some issues that's for sure. Kate was definitely the one who really could act!!! She saved the show and provided the necessary depth which it otherwise lacked. Kate and Farrah weren't going to take that crap any longer. Farrah's replacement only worked because Ladd did the bikini thing etc. The Average Joe loved that... With beautiful and talented Kate leaving it wasn't that easy. Not easy at all! Without Kate things got off balance and the show became a parody of itself. And that was the end of Charlie's Angels.
kate was, like, really hot back then... many popular actors have been linked to her, a clear indicator of her rising star... the kramer vs. kramer thing was a very unfortunate thing that derailed her possible crossover to a movie career and to being taken as a serious actress... it's enough to make one bitter and resentful
Yes. In fact Leonard Goldberg and Aaron Spelling, each having plenty of money, claimed Farrah broke a signed contract for Charlie's Angels. The fact is that Farrah never signed her contract because the Spelling -Goldberg team wanted a percentage of her famous, best selling bathing suit poster. Farrah mostly did episodic TV appearances and modeling. She was asked to pose for the poster shoot before she ever appeared and cast for Charlie's Angels. Farrah really didn't want to do the poster. She had tennis lessons with Vince van Patten and was annoyed at having to postpone tennis for a bathing suit shoot. She insisted on wearing a one piece suit, have final approval of the photo to be used and worked a contract where she received a certain percentage off the sales of the poster. She was no dummy. She had smart business sense. The poster came out during the summer before Charlie's Angels premiered in September. The poster had nothing to do with Charlie's Angels. Spelling and Goldberg were wanting the money from the sales revenue. Farrah refused to sign the contract and thus, left the show after one season because she saw the role on Charlie's Angels as being a career stopper, never being able to improve her work as an actress, and have more control of her career. Let' face it with lines on CA like "Can we stop on the way back to the office at the store? I need more bubble bath." This was not acting. And she would have never received the praise and level of success as an actress if she stayed 5 years with the show. When they sued her, they claimed she had a contract, which she didn't. The parties settled out of court with the promise Farrah would make six appearances on the show over the next 2 seasons at a high salary of $150,000 / episode. She made more money than any of the other angels made in a year by just making these six appearances. The courts ruled she had a verbal contract because she accepted her $5,000 / episode salary. But they had no royalty rights to her poster.
Kate Jackson was jealous of Farrah,no doubt but she was also very kind to Farrah when Fawcett got cancer.She stayed over almost every night at the hospital with Farrah watching Charlies Angel tapes.Plus Farrah would go many times for dinner at J. Smith house and visited J.Smith at the hospital when Smith gave birth to her first child.All said and done I wished Farrah never left the show.I did love Cheryl Ladd too.Great show.
Kate was not jealous of Farrah at all. In fact she was very sad and devastated when Farrah left the show. The three original angels had wonderful chemistry and stayed friends. Kate and Jaclyn are still in touch. Kate was also the one who stood up for the other girls behind the scenes. Kate had no reason to be jealous the gorgeous woman and excellent actress she was. I watched CA because of her.

Whatever kate was complaining about while there; she must have been on the right track because the quality of scripts is definitely better in the first 3 years. And the scripts in the Farrah enhanced episodes, where she guest starred, seemed to be better too.Hmmm, I wonder if that was part of her settlement.
Farrah making $150,000 per episode to come back for 6 episode was so remarkable in that day. She was essentially a guest star. Over ten years later, the highest paid female star was Joan Collins on Dynasty at $125,000. And Joan was not guest starring.
while shelley might seem tentative at first, her characterization of tiffany from "love boat angels" to "one love, two angels" was pretty consistent... what changed really was she became more comfortable and, more importantly, she started having longer exposure mid-way through the season (thanks to the contributing writers)... good work, shelley!

Hey, I'm here to tell you if it had been a guy that acted that way rather than Kate then you'd never hear about it. Women were suppose to just do what you told them. It's just like promising Tina Louise the lead role in Gilligan's Island and then making her look like a jerk because the people lied. They just wanted her to be on the show and when she found out what she'd really be she didn't want to do it. I say be honest up front.
That's not exactly Tina Louise's beef with Sherwood Schwartz and being on Gilligan's Island. They needed a character to play the movie star, similar to a Marilyn Monroe. Tina was cast and had a role on the show. Tina became dissatisfied early on with her air time and amount of lines on the show. She went and complained to Sherwood. He looked her in the eyes and said, "Tina, the show is called Gilligan's Island. Not Ginger's island." She was a secondary character.

If you go on youtube you can see in the first season she was listed as the third star behind Bob Denver and Jim Backus. That's a whole lot different than having the show built around her. the irony really was that shelley was starting to work out as a replacement... that probably took long to notice because they didn't know how to play to her strengths; lasko was lazy and quick to dismiss her... kate was the only actress on the show: jaclyn was stiff too when she started out, both farrah and cheryl had their off moments while tanya never improved from her initial wooden outing on the show... shelley actually did fine for a newcomer, given what was happening behind the scenes

goldberg was full of, well himself, tiffany welles was a perfect character and shelley hack was the perfect actress to portray her, shelley more than worked out and today only a complete moron would blame shelley, we all now know what really happened, ed lakso didn't want her and did his damndest to make her not liked and did anything he could to see to it that this actress and character would be disliked and fail, today she has emerged as the most popular, she definatley worked out and the fans were just getting to know and yes like tiffany and yes the ratings were on the rise again and then gone, her replacement was a death sentance for the show, totally unfair to shelley hack, the lies spread were so so uncalled for, really shows what kind of people they were, thats why farah and shelley distanced themselves from these neandrathals, can't stand slimy goldberg
One mistake Shelley made in her approach to her character Tiffany was trying to be too smart with the scripts she was given..Kate had a special ability in her acting on the show to be the smart one. She could give a look of "I got it figured out", acting skills to be able to have a look in her face of seriousness. Shelley was Kate's replacement, her character was from the east coast, WASPY and educated at an Ivy league college. and she approached her lines as a smartly, educated woman to scripts that were poorly written. There was no continuity in the scripts. She tried to make it a thespian show to a really weak scripted show with little development of the characters. She just didn't have the acting skills like Kate to take poorly written scripts and use her skills to be the one who is smart and puts 2 + 2 together and get 4. Kate could because she had a strong acting background. The producers immediately blamed her when the show dropped in the ratings after 4 years. A show like Charlie's Angels should only expect a 5 year run. And a steady decline in ratings.

None of the other girls could pull that off. And of course she was just as beautiful as the other angels. She wasn’t into glam and fashion and that’s exactly what I so loved about her. Sexy and charismatic just in those 70s slacks and a t-shirt!
Farrah didn't find stardom in movie's, but received rave reviews from critics and the public for her TV movies like The Burning Bed, appearing on Broadway in Extremities, TV movie Small Sacrifices. Kate made an excellent movie called Making Love. The movie wasn't a commercial success because it was an excellent movie, but written 10 years too early for its subject matter.
You are right, George! Kate was absolutely amazing in "Making Love". She's so heartbreaking in the final scene! I read that Kate missed an Oscar nomination by only one vote!
Farrah was a one of a kind phenom, and her beauty should be celebrated, but I would like to hear a psychological deep dive as to why people lose their minds over some beautiful woman celebrities to the point where normal life is impossible for them. All women are beautiful in some way, but the Hollywood machine chews up and spits out young woman and kids.
Damn...Kate's persona and aura is totally different on interviews (many can be here on You Tube) than the high maintenance difficult diva everyone on the show here was saying! During interviews she comes across very soft spoken, sweet, and easy going. Most of the time I could usually see who's full of sh** lol just by certain things about them. Not really w/ Kate. :/ Either the crew (and Cheryl) of this show simply clashed w/ her or she only 'rebelled' due to not being allowed to do other things along w/ weaker scripts (which she was very vocal about). the true f-over was when she couldn't do Kramer vs. Kramer! 8^o. That had to be devastating and absolutely harpooned her career to possible mega heights!

Kate was educated at The New York to The American Academy of Dram Arts, she gave 100% to her acting and was truly frustrated with the bad writing and the shows focus on dresses and bikini's. Kate wasn't that type of actress. She didn't want to wear high heels, so wore Adidas tennis shoes. Big deal, they are more comfortable. She could stand behind the bar and wear a turtle neck and have blue jeans on, too. The camera only showed from the neck up. She was more in her work element on Scarecrow and Mrs. King because she produced the show. Amanda wore pants and tennis shoes in many scenes. When Kate was presented with the premise for Charlie's Angels, it would be about strong women who were detectives and solved crimes. The show veered away from the quality scripts and more value from the network for bikini's and low cut dresses. This is not what she originally signed on for in the beginning. She admits that season one was the most fun. She enjoyed her friendship and bonding relationship with Farrah and Jaclyn and she described it like "going to summer camp". She and the other actresses asked for better scripts, but as long as the T&A formula was working, why change. Kate complained and didn't allow the show to manipulate her and the less experienced Angels. When they appeared on TIME magazines cover, they wanted to do the shoot during their lunch break. Kate objected and said no. She and the other angels mysteriously got stuck in Kate's trailer during their contractual lunch break. Kate had done work on The Rookie's for four years. She was smart and demanded her rights on set. A woman is viewed as a bitch for doing this. Kate's been described as sweet, kind and a professional and it's the men whom say she's difficult when she gave 100% of herself in a role and expected the same from the others, like the writer's.

Thanks for your great comments folks. Except for one negative person who is constantly trying to badmouth Kate with cheap lies. So here are some facts: Kate Jackson was NOT fired. She had signed a seven-year contract with Spelling-Goldberg to do The Rookies. She was committed to do another series with them IF The Rookies got canceled before then, which it did. That's why she was Angel No. 1 and co-created the show (but was never credited for it...). She did four seasons on The Rookies and three on Charlie's Angels. So KATE JACKSON HONORED HER CONTRACT! Period!!! But after Spelling/Goldberg wouldn't let her do "Kramer vs. Kramer" Kate wanted out. She finished season 3 but she was certainly not going to come back for season 4 after they had done her dirty! Leonard Goldberg admitted they tried to talk her into staying but she wanted to leave which she did eventually. Aaron Spelling is on record saying "hell what next!". Because he knew no one could replace the amazing Kate Jackson. It wasn't Shelley's fault. Kate's shoes were impossible to fill. For anyone! Cheryl was a diva on the Charlie's Angels set who teamed up with writer Lakso. Kate wanted better scripts and since the men in charge refused to do that she kept insisting (she was right) so she got labeled “difficult”. Cheryl was NOT nice to the “little” people on the set. She ordered them around. Something Kate would never do. This is info from people who worked on Charlie's Angels. Not people who had (d)alliances but the "little people" who witnessed things first hand.
i thought the first 2 years were the best, script-wise... it was already becoming stale by the 3rd year and kate left at the right time... a new angel in the 4th season perked things up a bit (mid-way thru the season anyway, when they were writing new stories with shelley, instead of giving her token lines in previously written scripts)... the show was already obviously dead as early as the 1st ep of the 5th season with the out-of-place tanya...
Jaclyn Smith was the ageless, timeless beauty. Still gorgeous today. cherly ladd was just the brassy blonde. I thought she was more attractive than Farrah tho
To this day (even though Farrah still ended up a legend) her decision to leave ranks as one of the worst of all time along w/ Shelly Long from Cheers & Suzanne Somers on 3s Company. Suzanne/Farrah continued to be popular personalities and had some great roles but all of the above were on HUGE shows and left at their zenith mainly out of greed or self absorbed reasons. If they woulda just stayed, all couldve ended up even bigger!
I don't think Farrah ever regretted leaving Charlie's Angels. She was a much better actress as she studied acting. Farrah did the unexpected. Leaving a show it's first year was not bad. She was not greedy. She did plenty of modeling and made millions before Charlie's Angels from her best selling bathing suit poster. As far as Suzanne Somers, she asked to be paid a salary that reflected her contribution to the success of Three's Company. Like her male counterpart at the time, Larry Hagman of Dallas, she knew she deserved a better salary because trust me, the creators of Three's Company were making 10x as much from the series than the stars were being paid. Three's Company was not quality TV. Each episode dealt with sexual misinterpretation by Mr. Roper and Chrissy Snow being an air head and wearing tight sweaters. Suzanne wanted to be paid for her work because one day the series will end. Suzanne made millions from the thigh master.
Hey, the direct trips me out big time. He thinks that the fluff and jiggle show was the only thing she's ever acted in and that not showing her nipples or being glamorous was being difficult. I guess he needs to go to the imdb.com and just look at the 13 tv movies and she was in before she was even on that show. Allen Baron was talking about her but he's 21 years older and had only been on tv and movies 10 years prior. I don't think that makes him so much better than her. I think he was mad because he wanted to see naked women and she messed it up for him. Sorry, guess you need to go get a playboy LOL

the point being, she had the connections and got good advice on how to gain leverage with the producers. she cooperated with the bikini requirements, donning one on a fairly regular basis. one season of that and cheryl was golden to the producers. it didn't matter that ratings started to slide in the 3rd season. cheryl was already firmly in place and could ask to do other things on the show. alas, that was not to be with shelley who had little acting `connections' to back her up. as for tanya, her marginal appeal and questionable acting skills wouldn't have earned her another season on the show. it didn't. s/g put their bet on her and she failed miserably, sending the show to the grave
When Cheryl started Charlie's Angels, Alan Ladd was dead for quiet some time. Cheryl didn't even want the role at the beginning. Who wanted to step into Farrah's shoes? She made the character of Kris likeable.
Farrah proved in her hard work as an actress, she wasn't just about the hair. That was the public's image. She did good work in acting roles after CA and she has this as part of her legacy.

You mention Benton - well the original concept of Joanna was that she was kind of a stiff villain. Jackson would have been good, but Streep is sensational. Streep fought to turn Joanna into a three dimensional character that we understand - she earned that Oscar. Jackson lost an opportunity, but I think it's a bit much to think that losing one role cost her a legendary career.

As for Joanna: yes she was not as likeable in the book and in the initial movie script as how Meryl adapted it. But Kate apparently was not afraid to embrace that role exactly the way it was. I think she would have nailed that role in her own specific way. Btw she looked almost exactly how Joanna is being described in the book. I do not agree with you on Kate being stiff in "Making Love". I don't think it was about the Oscar, it was about her being able to show up as the actress she was and to be able to do both big and little screen type of acting. It was about the opportunity, the Oscar was like a cherry on top. Look at how the men tried to downplay her skills as well as her beauty, they made her feel like she was in competition with the 2 women who were her best friends.

Kate Jackson is Kate Jackson. The co-creator of Charlie's Angels and the best actress on the show. There's a lot of gossipping and lies about her in the internet. Totally unfair.
I disagree with jako32. You cant compare Cheers to CA or #'s Company. Not the same. Maybe CA & 3's company can be compared. Maybe. Although CA was never a comedy. Also, Farrah became a respected actress. Much more than any other of the actresses we are talkin gabout herein. She never would have accomplished that if she got tied into CA. (She might have made a ton of money though on merchandising.)The truth is Speliing/Goldberg screwed up and didnt have a negotiated contract signed with her. They tried to bully and intimidate her. She didnt blink. They did by agreeing to have her come back for 6 episodes at a then unheard of $150k per episode. She was still a huge star at the time and of course the network had access to oodles of money & lawyers so why would hey back down? ,,,because they were LOSING in court.

it was remarkable!!! and the production promptly wasted it... her first 2 guest appearances were fine but the succeeding ones ('cept maybe for "fallen angel") were so unremarkable when they should have been "big events" every time!
I know u can't believe everything u read, but back in the day, it was reported tha Cheryl Ladd & Jaclyn Smith didn't get along. I've seen them together in recent interviews, but Cheryl herself even said(in a TV interview) that in the beginning Jaclyn & Kate shared a dressing room, implying that she wasn't in their clique.
Kate did not warm up to Cheryl from the start. But Jaclyn and Cheryl got along fine. At first Kate and Jaclyn were on guard when Cheryl landed the role of Kris, but Jaclyn quickly warmed up to Cheryl and they are still friends. Having their friend Farrah leave the show was difficult. They didn't know anything about Cheryl Ladd.

if i were farrah, i would have insisted on script approval for the return episodes... the death of jill's race car-driving beau, kris' kidnapping, jill-tuned-evil eps were fine... but the mother goose thing? prince and angel?? jill kidnapped??? (btw, the last one was reportedly the lowest rated ep of season 4)... i thought they were horrible, lopsided eps that featured a lot of jill but did not really situate it in the "angels" universe, making the other angels sorta irrelevant...
I am always confused when Charlie's Angels (the original series) comes up and I hear that Feminists are being portrayed as having objected to this show because it 'exploited' women, but as the years passed we see their real objection was based in not wanting Men to have exposure to sexy and attractive women. Over the years we see the truth of this resentment in their suppression of films like 1981's Body Heat. In that film we see another sexy and beautiful woman who actually USES these assets to seduce an average-looking man into committing murder. Feminists lodged the exact same complaints against it that had been lodged against the women in Charlie's Angels. Why? Because Feminists (as we see today) are slovenly, piggish women who don't possess the kind of bodies or sexiness that Charlie's Angels (and Maddie Walker in Body Heat) had. Men don't pine for them, and so many of them turn either to lesbianism or a houseful of cats.
Not really, Did u ever see the movie How To Marry A Millionaire? Many had bets riding on 1940's pinup girl Betty Grable would clash with the sexy newcomer Marilyn Monroe, but Betty pulled Marilyn time aside & whispered that she had had her time (as top girl/alpha-girl or something to that effect) & it was Marily's turn. In any event, the movie was a blockbuster hit & the two stars remained friends So, I beg to differ & btw, I am a black woman.
Farah was nothing but a tan, blonde with lots of teeth, and whispy voice. On top of that, for too many years, she played the "dumb, innocent" (similar to Marilyn Monroe's fake persona) during interviews.
That's what she would have been called if she stayed on the series. She was a smart woman and knew she had the ability to act well if given the chance. And she has a wealth of work to show she was a good and respected actress. Why do you fault a woman for being pretty. She had beautiful teeth and she played tennis, so having a tan is not unusual. Most people get braces to have a pretty smile and brushing gives your teeth white, healthy gums. You're going to fault her for that?
yes!!! and paid dearly for it (sigh)... i don't know if kate did the better thing by asserting her rights without leaving the production, cooperating as much as she could but also putting her foot down when she felt she had to... sure, it did make her unpopular by complaining a lot but when it was time to go, the producers couldn't do anything but just watch her leave...no lawsuits, some good words for her... fans of course were up in arms and apparently vented their anger on poor shelley hack!
Good lessons to be had. Jackson let her competitiveness and ill feelings mar her time on CA. Most actresses would have loved the opportunity! Even if she did Kramer, there's no guarantee it would have been the success it was with Streep. People spend too much time looking at closed doors, belittling the wonderful opportunities they do have. There is only one Farrah and she dazzled. Life is unfair, she made other beautiful women seem somewhat dull in comparison. Jackson and Smith, both beauties, were fortunate to tailgate on her dazzle. No one could have predicted Farrah would become such a phenom, seemed like a nice woman who didn't use her beauty to intentionally intimidate. Smith was smart and befriended her whereas Jackson pushed against it. I get Jackson's frustration, but sometimes you gotta roll with it.
Let's get some things straight here: Kate was relieved to leave the show after three years. Here's why: Many seem not aware that Kate Jackson was the co-creator of the show. To call them Angels and the mysterious Charlie were Kate's idea. Of course she never got credit for this. She was promised a detective crime drama with scripts that have depth. Didn't happen. Instead the show went full throttle into T&A mode. That was the first disappointment. Btw Farrah wanted better scripts, too. Then in early 1978 Kate landed the female lead in "Kramer vs. Kramer" and you know the story. The producers wouldn't let her do it. How devastating for Kate! Of course there's no guarantee Kate would have won an Oscar. She was aware of that as well. Maybe she would, maybe not. But it definitely would have led to other roles. So the producers deliberately harpooned her career. These guys knew what they were doing. They knew the business. Very frustrating for Kate. For anyone in the same situation! So Kate started to cause some problems (her words) on the set in season 3. I don't blame her at all! I would've gotten really mad had this happened to me. "Angels in Chains" is interesting. They mostly wore the same prison outfits (that looked really cool) and none of them stood out. They were all beautiful. Of course everyone thinks their favorite angel is the most gorgeous. So do I. Kate Jackson was and will always be my favorite Angel. That being said I love how Kate, Farrah and Jaclyn had the best chemistry. Kate once said that she and Farrah always tried to ad-lib or do something unexpected on camera to make one another laugh. And it showed! They had the best of times that year. Kate didn't push against Farrah, she loved her and cared about her! All three women remained friends and when Farrah died Kate and Jacyln were devastated. Kate and Jaclyn are still friends.
They need to let us see the "director's cut" of that episode with Cheryl Ladd's teensie tiny bikini, lol. Or, at least, release some stills so we can see what all the fuss was about!
shelley was golden girl for a while there. she brought a tremendous amount of publicity to the aging show. i don't really think any of the other girls she beat for the part could have generated as much interest. shelley was afterall already enjoying supermodel status and had achieved a good measure of fame as charlie perfume signature model. then her premiere ep (love boat angels) aired and was #1 for the week, prompting producers s/g to declare the show had survived kate's departure. they were so smug that they failed to realize the production's failure in coming up with good stories for the show in general and the new angel in particular. when ratings started falling, they blamed shelley hack. even when new writers came on board to correct that production flaw (and it was actually working out), s/g didn't appreciate it and thought they could do better with stupid stories wrapped around a new airhead, bikini-clad angel. the result of that would speak for itself. the show suffered an instant death with the cosmetic change of introducing jiggle-ready and jiggle-willing but ultimately wooden and boring tanya
allen baron needs to get his facts straight... in that particular scene, jaclyn was doing the case wrap up so she was the only one talking... even cheryl and david doyle have little or no speaking part in that scene... shelley certainly had more speaking parts in the first episode that what these mean-spirited old men wanted the public to believe... guys, why don't you just own up to your inability to make good use of a pretty and promising newcomer like shelley!!! the buck stops with you...
From everything I've heard and read, Kate was quite difficult. It's understandable why her 3 marriages did not work. I think much of it was the frustration of people not taking her seriously and her desire to aspire to bigger and better things. Her reputation for being difficult followed her and prevented her star from rising any higher than it did.

Surely Kate was very outspoken and after she got denied to do Kramer vs. Kramer she was furious. Oh man I would, too!!! The producers just didn't try hard enough. Also Kate wanted better scripts and had they listened to her she might have stayed. But they wouldn't. So she left and the show didn't work without Kate Jackson. Of course not! She also stood up for the other girls. Can you imagine in a 70s men's world? A strong assertive woman? They sure hated her and preferred a woman to keep quiet and wear skimpy outfits. Kate didn't put up with injustice so she didn't keep quiet. Hence her reputation. When a woman is angry she'll always be the bitch. It's totally unfair but the sad reality. Especially in those times. As for Kate's 3 divorces. Well, Jaclyn Smith had 3 divorces and Farrah had one plus that difficult relationship with Ryan O'Neal and with another guy who beat her up. Was it also their fault?

Ben, you did not live with her three husbands and a part of marriage. It takes 2 people to make and break a marriage. Plus, Kate was not difficult, she only asked for good scripts. She has a good work ethic.
@@georgemallory401 My uncle worked in the tv industry back then and had a close friend that worked for Aaron Spelling. Kate was always my fav, but the reality is... Kate WAS difficult to work with. The exact adjective he used to describe her was "neurotic". This is well know fact in the industry back then. Kate got Spelling to close the whole production down early one day because she had a date with Warren Beatty.

Kate was just as gorgeous as the other girls. To me she was the most breathtaking and fascinating of them all! Just because she wasn't into the whole glam thing but preferred those cool 70s slacks, a t-shirt or blouse or turtle neck doesn't make her less appealing. She was smoking hot and didn't even have to try. And one more thing. She had charisma! The show just didn't work without her.
Kate Jackson is a beautiful woman, too. She never felt inferior to the other angels. And they never felt she was inferior to their looks. Everyone is different.
I never liked Kate Jackson I always found her arrogant and thought she was smarter than all the angels she dressed like a man and looked like one...all she had was height and shiney hair that's it
