I’m a country white guy that took my daughter to Charlotte to catch a panthers game and spent the night at the Hyatt place close to the spectrum center. Not knowing what to expect, when we walked around to find a restaurant I carried a handgun with me. What I found in uptown Charlotte was different, but nice people. The ones I talked to were very nice people. Again, very different, but awesome. Some cool black dudes even offered me some of their weed!! I had to decline but I appreciated it. I had no problems whatsoever in uptown and carrying my gun was a waste of space on my waste line. The blacks, the whites, and the others, very nice and respectable people. I will definitely be back.
Most of the time downtown IS safe. Don't go during big events like NCAA though. Remember also several years ago there were stupid riots that go so bad, a curfew was imposed for a while.
I've live in the CLT area almost all my life, and in the city itself for 13 years. Uptown is super safe. The city goes out of its way to make sure of it. It's a hub for sports tournaments and conventions and the shit would lose a shit load of money if it weren't safe
Grew up here since early 2000s, uptown is safe. The riots the guy is talking about was the worst thing I've seen here ever. Found out recently it was instigated by Russian meddling in our social politics and the FBI are investigating it. Look it up. Anyway, this city is growing too fast, full of transplants. I do consider it one of the best cities for families. Its just very boring for me here.
@@KP-jp9gv Do you have a link to the FBI investigation. I would be very interested in reading that. More than 70% of the rioters were from out of state and as far as I know, Al Sharpton was behind this.
@@KP-jp9gv The riot had nothing to do with Russia lol. Those Charlotte riots started after the wife of a man who was shot and killed by police lied about what happened. The wife claimed he was shot by a white officer while reading a book in his car. In actuality he was brandishing a firearm and was shot by a black officer. Nevertheless her lies were quickly parroted by the mainstream media and spread on social media. Which sparked protests and then riots in the city. And it's true that a large number of the rioters were from out of town/state - many of them from as far away as Atlanta. Those rioters arrived in Charlotte on buses within hours after the shooting according to CMPD. Which suggests it was an organized effort.
I live in Charlotte and our hoods are joke compared to Chicago or dirty ass Philly. For the most part Charlotte is a good place to live, work and raise a family. Our downtown area is one of the cleanest I’ve seen compared to a lot of other cities. You know the hood is not that bad when you don’t see a bunch of people standing outside and loitering.
That's because they tore down the hoods from what you see now. Dalton village gone. Piedmont mount courts gone. Earl village gone. Belvedere homes gone.
Right. I came straight from Trenton, NJ and Now I stay in Charlotte,NC and people down here really think they big and bad. They really believe this is a bad place when I actually believe it’s nice. Like if the kids stop doing so much and being bad then Charlotte “Hood” would actually be really decent
Goofy Mikasa Hey Goof you lost me at people think they big and bad!! Go back to your slums clown where people are actually big bad and broke. Weirdo we don’t want you here anyway
@@will900rr go down Rozzelles. By Biddle Point its all $300,000+ houses now. They kicked out the poor folk and tore down all the old houses. It looks nothing like it used to. Same with State street behind it. They really updated that area by Johnson C Smith.
Miss Charlotte. The West side is mostly where the "hoods" are however compared to other cities Charlotte really doesn't have a bad bad one. You were on Tryon Street Uptown (not downtown) Eastside (I used to love off of Tryon & Eastway) and turned where the men's shelter is that's why there were some people. Charlotte is nice and clean and the people are warm. Much love to the Queen City.
Mandilo23 true Charlotte is one of the most conservative cities in America it definitely is one of the most beautiful big cities I’ve ever seen I don’t know any liberal cities that look like this
ET wow you right I went back and did more research and found out the previous source that said Charlotte was conservative was wrong so yes Charlotte is super liberal I don’t need all that but it’s a lovely lovely looking city
1. Cleanliness has nothing to do with a place being hood. 2. If your city is dirty that doesn’t mean it’s hood, that’s nasty and y’all Mf trifling. Charlotte takes care of itself it’s overall a clean city probably one of the cleanest bigger cities you’ll find. 3. He covered 2neighborhoods that sit right beside each other so really 1neighborhood. 4. There is much worse places in Charlotte. You won’t find no slum looking areas(maybe 1 or 2) in Charlotte but just like in LA the hoods aren’t in bad shape, so do not be fooled by any stretch.
Charlottean here, I lived in west Baltimore for 5 years recently. Coming back to Charlotte was a dream. We have some rough areas, but not nearly as bad as most places.
Aron Myers I see & I agree...traditional south will triumph new south for those who want a true southern experience. Still Charlotte looks to be a decent place to live.
NorthTrEndz_CLE judging from this video I can already tell it doesn’t have the same genuine soul as the “old south” it looks like the tri state area actually
Aron Myers that’s all I need to hear. I ain’t with that bull ish that’s that up north shit I’m a still take a trip I doubt I’ll ever live there. Sounds a lot like Orlando Florida & I hate that place sheeesh
I made a brief stopover in Charlotte on a flight home from Denver recently. It's good to see what this city actually looks like. I appreciate your videos and your channel, Charlie. Thank you !
I am from Charlotte, when I take people to my hood they be like girl bye this ain’t no hood. Hell I didn’t say we were Baltimore. Charlotte hoods not that bad but be careful.
Some of you have no clue. This is clean compared to 20 years ago.So do your homework. Take it all the way back ,where Double Oaks use to be now they selling homes in the 300 thousand dollar range. Or go over by JC,An Trade st. Better yet go downtown to the old Earl Village. Piedmont Courts should I keep going.
Yeah, if you're from Charlotte, you know all the hoods downtown were knocked down years ago. Downtown filled with lots of business people now. It wasn't always like that. A lot of gentrification has gone on.
I remember back when plaza-midwood was even slightly sketchy. That's where I used to hang around. Especially about little parking lot. Now it's like a yuppie Metropolis
Same with Rozzelles Ferry. All Craftsman homes. Now what happens is they tear down the old and build these new houses while ppl still.live there in their old house. Say a $300,000 house gets built next to a $90,000 house. The 90 has to pay the same rate of taxes on the 300. Most times, they can't afford that bill. That's how ppl lose their homes if they aren't bought out, outright.
Washington Heights looks nasty!! My p.o. box is there on Beatties Ford street at the post office by a Food Lion.....im thinking about changing the location! Im a 60 year old white dude, probably not a good area for me to be.
Paul Holmes Thank you , they think the City is ruff now , back then most of middle school classmates died Class of 97 them days was crazy in the 90s my dude
Downtown Charlotte (Uptown actually ) is the cleanest one I have ever seen in the US. Hoods are maybe hoods based on NC standards but nothing compared to LA and Las Vegas hoods.
Beautiful by American low standards, but mediocre compared to German Bavarian cities or something in Japan. The streets are dirty, more dangerous, no cultural unity among the melting pot race division, road construction & infrastructure is miserable, wealth inequality & debt... That's all I see. I was just thinking, few people like attorneys make a killing in these parts. Rent an office space in one of those high rises & charge $300hr to deal with the endless flow of delinquents.
I was born and raised in Charlotte NC, lived here all 34 years of my life. The only truly " dangerous" neighborhood is hidden valley. Most violent crimes take place at the club's and random gas stations, fastfood spots late nights.
I used to work at Tremont Music Hall and would get out really late and hit that gas station on the corner of South and East, you know, the one with the bomb ass potato wedges and chicken. I swear I probably witnessed 10 different fights go down in that parking lot
@Joey The blind Panther yeah, I have a lot of coworkers who live in hidden valley. It's not like it was in the 80s and early 90s. I don't really think Charlotte has any "dangerous" neighborhoods to be honest
@@2jcward I work for a furniture delivery company, we deliver there every Friday and never have any trouble. But they say it used to be bad as far as local gangs shooting each other, stuff like that
Looking at this compared to other southern cities like Atlanta, Birmingham, Memphis and New Orleans there is nothing really hood about Charlotte, most of those neighborhoods clean as hell which is definitely a good thing
Boi u must not be frm here then cuhz u dont kno anything that be happening over here dont let looks decive u my area alone3 homicides and 4-5 shooting over 3 days so jus cuz we look clean dat dont mean we ain't bout it jus like erone else
Recommend for me & I live in Corn-hole/Huntersville adjacent! Only because Mans job!!!! We hate this fake life miss real people that speak truth & we can drive to city! Yet bad tracking because I have seen bad conditions & people don't care living in hood driving Lexus /BMW!
I live in Charlotte and more and more of these hoods are being replaced by 5 to 7 story apartment buildings with parking decks and starting rent 1300-1500 dollars a month. Even in the bad neighborhoods you will find homes that were completely remodeled going for 300k+. This is flushing out the so called HOODS and the people who live in them.
they gentrified the hell outta charlotte. growing up on west blvd was different than what it is today. my old neighborhood dont even look the same wilmore got big ass houses we didn't know about that growing up. its different and we say we going downtown
Hidden Valley is no where near as bad as it used to be. Nothing over there now but families and old people. No gang banging. He should’ve drove over there by Tuck and Avalon.... Rozzelles Ferry rd etc.
Man i love your videos, Charlie. Been watching for years now and so glad to see you still consistently uploading new stuff and getting more views! Also love how you go into parking lots and back areas like at 7:00. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Charlotte is pretty, but every major city has areas surrounding it that are completely impoverished. Charlotte is no different. Been here for almost a year now and see new stuff frequently.
Lot of this looks like it was taken around Remount and West Blvd. Nice cruise down Tryon. If he was looking "the hood", he should have hit Grier town or Hidden Valley.
Been there plenty of times. Charlotte does have a nice downtown but outside of that, it still feels like a large rural southern town. I seriously don’t understand the hype about Charlotte.
Okay!! Shout out to Southside Homes!!! Damn you in my hood!!!!! I live by the office on Griffith!!! You must of really had time on your hands!! 😂 lmao!!!
Only thing bad about black neighborhoods is No Tips. I'm from Charlotte, grew up in Dalton Village, much worse in the 80's and 90's. Crime still a problem not just in Charlotte but every where. Pizza delivery driver late 90's not one tip in Southside homes and brookhills apartments.
Then we would've witnessed a crime happening lmao..... Or better yet him speeding by before they took his tires off the car while he's still driving lol...
@NORTH CAROLINA-GEO WATCH Yes the crime rate is off the chain i was thinking about moving there a while back i changed my mind decided to either move to Houston Tx,or Raleigh Nc & Also I just read an article where a young lady was on her way to school at the stop light near uptown and she was killed by a stray bullet smh
Raleigh used to be as dangerous as Baltimore I know this cause my mom is from Raleigh the crime has changed so much I'm from Philadelphia and the crime here is off the charts so I'm thinking about moving to Raleigh
I only ever traveled through NC on my way to Florida 😄 I'm sure of it every state got towns and cities in it, where crimes is heavy. I moved outta North Philly... There was a murder or 2 at least almost everyday, crime through the roof. See Pennsylvania is very beautiful, but certain parts are ahhhh 😮
@NORTH CAROLINA-GEO WATCH I am from the Mooresville area and here we have went from 9,000 people to 40,000+ in a couple decades. Northern people destroyed this town.
I live in Charlotte RIGHT NOW......LETS BE CLEAR Southside is dead nothing goes on there it goes down on West Blvd beatties Ford tuckaseegee shamrock the plaza freedom etc don't get it twisted Charlotte a fool
Always fascinated by your braveness...In Italy the slums are very sneaky, if you see cities like Naples or Rome, the wrong places have a whole system against police or enemies. Now, you have a ton of experience, just gives us some tips on how to survive this situations, how you smell danger, and how you interact with people in the US bad areas. And, of course, I guess they all work...if your black, right? Greetings
No its not possible as we are having an economic and population boom and we're probably gonna overtake Jacksonville as the biggest southeast coast city
Charlotte is a beautiful and clean city like Denver, Indianapolis, Dallas, Orlando. People have pride of their property there even in the “bad” areas they take care of their lawns, buildings aren’t falling apart everywhere like Philly or Baltimore.
I’ll be through there in the morning on the way to the dr.yall keep in mind some of the hood you’re looking at was farmland only 50 years ago.the property taxes in that hood are among the highest in the country so they have to keep some appearances up
