Charming city, HORRIFYING MARINA EP. 22

Adventures of a Lifetime

As we continue making our way down the east coast of the USA we find ourselves in Charleston, SC. We almost skipped Charleston due to fears over fouling our anchor (tons of reviews say that anchors get snagged and lost constantly due to the debris littering the river bed) and over the infamous mega dock that almost got the best of us....We end up having a magical time shore exploring and learning all about the gorgeous city, but have a call that is a little too close for comfort on our way out of the slip.

Fire insurance companies once had their own private fire fighting companies. There were no public fire fighters. The companies responded to the fire and if you didn't have their fire insurance they left. The placards showed who you were insured with.
@adventures

Our tour guide told us that as well, such a strange concept and so different from how it is now! Cool to see the history of organized fire fighting though

I always learn so much from you guys. Such interesting information on places you visit. Your personal air show reminded me of a very special day in my life as well. On the day after an air show in London Ontario Canada in the late 80’s, I was working on a communications tower just north of the airport. I was working at about 300’ at the top of the tower. After the first fighter jet left, they all knew I was there and they all pulled various different maneuvers. One in particular that I remember tilted their wings to the vertical position and gave me a salute. It was quite a spectacular morning.

Always really enjoy your channel and your video tours of life on a Nordhavn 60. The opening monologue really gets to me and I always turn up the volume when it starts. Especially the part, 'tomorrow is never guaranteed, so we decided.... to head out to sea for an adventure of a lifetime.' It's just super perfect! Thanks for bringing your 'adventure' to us and looking forward to the next episode stop or cruise at sea!!

That Camo has got some moves! Good thing your boat is heavy or that current would have really pushed you around, I think they have about a 12 foot tidal swing there so a lot of water moving in/out. The jet shots were so cool, saw one of those guys at the FTL Air Show last year! He “buzzed the tower” (beach) and then went straight up, unbelievable
@adventures
@adventures 3 года назад
It’s so cool! I used to always go to watch the air shows when I was younger so it brought back memories! That’s very true, the only issue with a heavy boat is that it’s hard to move the other way once it gets going lol. We really thought we had timed slack so it caught us off guard!!
@sophecles2b

That C-17 Globemaster is a converted transport to gunship...it was practicing tactical movements with your boat...that flashing of lights is like flare deployment with the hard break to the right after firing upon your boat....looked like fun

Wonder if the pilot follows the channel, that may be why he gave you the "wing-waggle" as he (or she) went by! I saw another video of a "trawler life family" based in the Pacific North West fairly recently and they had a bulbous bow _added_ to their boat. It DRASTICALLY cut down on the pitching that normal stabilzers don't fight. The channel is Cruising Sea Venture, it cost them just under $20k including the haulout and relaunching.
@adventures
@adventures 3 года назад
That could be! Very interesting about adding the bulbous bow and I’m even more surprised at the price tag. I had always heard that they were way more expense. I’ll have to check out their video! Thanks for the info

I really enjoyed the info they gave on the difference the Bulbous Bow made for Pitching. I can't remember where I read it, but Nordhavn did look into the Bulbous Bow and found that under a certain size, it didnt really pay off.

A few things that help me with sea sickness; No coffee the morning of departure, no going downstairs even to pee, fresh air and keeping my eyes on the horizon/land as much as possible. Dramamine and wrist bands seem to help many. You may be done sailing by now but this may help in the future. Loved that plane and Camo out running all the dogs!

So cool! We were like little kids and so excited about it lol. That’s a good idea for something to include! The lines that are tight change depending on the current and the wind direction. Because it was slack tide and there was minimal wind the spring lines that hold the boat forward or back, were slacked
