I noticed in my older age (pushing 40) that I've come around to liking a lot of body types I used to dislike. Not sure what changed, but I've been obsessed w T style bodies. That is a beautiful guitar and sounds great! Happy belated birthday dude!
I went from the Dimebag Guitar in the 90s to teles and Strats. It had something to do with growing up, I guess. (Still wish I had the dimebag guitar though)
Also explains why it is loud. Schecter did this with the PT Special and the first PT Apocalypse. I put foam etc in there with my Schecters because the pickguard vibration can cause feedback with high gain
@@RandalphTheBlack the white Joe Duplantier is generally a great guitar but the plastic nut is worth replacing/having someone replace it with a nice bone or graph tech one.
that’s such a shame to hear their QC has been poor recently, Charvel has been my favourite guitar builder since i bought my first one back in 2012, i’ve bought an additional three different models since then and didn’t have any issues with them, but now that you have informed me i will definitely be taking a much closer look next time i look at one in the store
which manufacturers have good quality control from your experience? (or which to avoid) i'd be interested in knowing as i'm on the search for a hard rock metal guitar
@@petemikedennis Depends on what kind of guitars you prefer, but in general I've never had an issue with LTD/ESP (Aside from one neck broken in shipping.), Fender's family on the lower price points has been the most varied quality-wise, and I avoid Gibson/Epi out of principle.
Happy Birthday! I own this JD sig as well and I love the neck on it. It just feels right in my hand and I can't say anything negative about the Fortitude bridge pup. It is well rounded and provides great clarity.
Happy 45th bro. I'm right there behind ya. I'll be 44 next month. Shit goes by fast doesn't it? Lol. Keep shredding my friend. So glad you decided to come back to RU-vid.
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your new guitar! I love your videos and I'm looking forward more. Could you please list gear used in the video in the description? Thank you very much. Keep up the great work! Greetings from Slovakia.
Man those squeals sound gnarly and perfect on that thing. Thats a nasty tone and reappt gorgeous. I really want the all white older model and maybe drop these pickups in.
Happy Birthday! If they got you that for 45, what's it going to be at 50? :) Too bad they aren't allowing the shop to spend an extra couple minutes on the frets, it's not exactly a budget guitar!
Sounds amazing. What tuning do you have it in? And is it the tuning Gojira uses? Also what Mastodon song was that you first played after you mentioned them. Great shit man!
Thanks mate it’s standard tuning a whole step down to D. Very common for Gojira and they sometimes drop C as well. Mastodon use same tunings and the song is probably The Beast off the latest album
Just saw Gojira last night w/ Mastodon, they blew Mastodon out the water. To Mastodons defense, it did seem like they were having a rough time w/ their sound where as Gojira sounded exactly like the record. Thanks for the review, I've been on the fence about this guitar and after this review I think I'll pass. Kind of surprised with how bad you said the fretwork was because the last couple Charvels I've had the pleasure of playing had really nice necks and fretwork. Thanks again for the great content!
Saw the same show in Montreal. Mastodon played first and they were amazing. Then Gojira took over and they just took it to another level. Two incredible bands to see live!!!
Hey LC, can you post a picture of the route under the picguard? There isn't one anywhere out there. I'm curious about adding a tone pot or getting a custom guard that swoops a touch differently
Your family is awesome! My latest Dean select V has some awful fret issues but im gonna get a luthier to fix them. Thats 1 thing i dont trust myself with lol
Have you ever tried the Fender Jim Root Tele? Also mahogany body, but heard that guitar is heavy. Also wondered how the tune-o-matic bridge would sound compared to the Root Tele's fixed bridge, which is more Hipshot-like. The obvious biggest difference is the pickups...these low output passives vs the EMG 81/60 actives, which you are more than familiar with. I really like the 36th Anniv PAF as a neck pickup, but not sure how I feel about the Fortitude. I prefer the Dominion from Dimarzio. I do prefer those block inlays over the plain dots on the Root Tele. I think I would prefer a belly cut to the slab body though. Cheers to the wonderful bday present and hope you enjoy it.
I wanted to get that exact same guitar last year. Ended up getting the LTD BK600 instead. Loving it. Now that I saw your video I want to buy the Charvel too! You can never get enough guitars right?!
I have white version, probably my favourite guitar to play but also the only guitar I had to send away to be fixed. Had lots of QC issues but there was just something about that I wanted to keep it.
What Mastodon song does that first riff belong? I have it on the tip of my tongue!! Thanks in advance :) And really cool video! Im hooked to your yt chanel
It is a gut punch when a guitar that is at a higher price has to be fixed I agree and have done it on several guitars myself. On the flip side I bought a cheaper Jackson for my son years ago and it was flawless better fret work then guitars that cost 5 x as much????? If you can get your hands on a used Carvin v3m head I think you might like it I would say it has flown under the radar and is a hidden gem also if you can get a JOYO Dark Flame you may be surprised at this inexpensive pedal I was it has the flavor of Load Reload Garage Inc.
Hello! I bought this guitar earlier this year and it's great, I love it! But there is one problem for me: I use a lot the volume knob to have a wider range of sounds (instead of the binary footswitch). But when you lower the volume on this guitar, it cuts off all the low ends and you have a very high-pitched weird sound. So I can only play with the footswitch...
I just got a used one last week, and it really feels like a satin Les Paul with a Charvel neck. Definitely found myself playing Mastodon riffs as well. Great guitar. I just wished it had a little more weight relief and a belly cut. It's a shame what FMIC is doing to Charvel and it's own brand with rushing all these guitars out. They are pushing their workers too hard and are saturating the market with subpar instruments.
Would you be willing to put a video out of your master of puppets tone with the pmeq but without double tracking and all that I really wanna know how dose I have my tone with the pedal please sir
It is a great guitar , but i feel if the wood was a little darker it would look a lot better at least for me. But since it is a natural finish that should not be to dufficult ti achieve
I just got this guitar and love it, also using 10-52’s, did you find it hard to intonate with that string size? I’m contemplating getting either a roller bridge for it or the graphtech resomax, but can’t seem to find what size the current tune-o-matic is.
If it's Indonesian it's probably built by Cort, I have had 4 guitars built by Cort and all of them have had issues, meanwhile my Mexican charvel I'd put up against any American or Japan built instrument amazing quality those Mexican charvels are built by fender mexico
Epic video as usual. God bless your family for hooking you up with such a treat! At risk of seeming like a tool(I feel like you will enjoy knowing), on the axe you are playing basic power chords. Try 1st string 3rd fret 2nd string 1st fret insteand of power chords at 3rd and 1st (credit to uncle ben eller)- ( I just got one and I'm in standard for the 1st time leave me alone). You will love it or I credit you 1 slap to my face free of charge.
I just got one and the setup out of the box was immaculate. Like the best I’ve ever seen on a new guitar. Only thing is some of the higher frets (like 18/19) were a bit rough (easy fix) and the bridge pickup is tilted a bit. Common issue and should be fixable as well, definitely not a deal breaker for me. Thanks for your video, was one of the reasons that made me exited for the guitar!
Nice though tt is I couldn't personally forgive those faults even at this price given what Ibanez and Yamaha manage to put out consistiently including the cheaper Indonesian made models.
I want this guitar because well telecasters are sick and thats why i only play telecasters but this one i thinkbill pass on because im worried about poor quality and i hate doing returns. And for 1000 bucks??? Really? Come on guys.
