@@renebauerphotography It will soon be 5 years and yes, I think you are right. While we were talking the other night (another time I've been chasing her to home) she brought up the subject of marriage. 😂
As an ex-Admiral, I recommend you to check the Navtex before go to sea. Most probably warships scheduled live firing exercise. On the other hand, war ships never activate AIS especially during exercises. Have a safe and enjoyable sail.
Yeah, except that Turkey's Navtex's are not announced till it's too late, and this because they are conducted in Greek territorial sea and are thus illegal. Turkey tries to create gray zones in the Aegean but the Greek fleet will always be there to stop them 🇬🇷
@@Slava_Russia-Wagner This isn't Greek waters, but we've been to several waters with those ships without Greeks greeting us. Where was the Greek fleet in 1974?
@@nikos_para2329 Did you hear something the phrase, "Act them like how they deserved." That doesn't mean we hurt civilians just because we have border operations nikos. Grow up.
@@gird4p don’t hurt civilians that’s a very wrong statement gird I understand that you get offended when you hear something bad about your country but it’s a fact that turkeys history is more of a criminal record against civilians you better accept that fact and grow up
@@nikos_para2329 LoL Greek detected. Anyway I don't have to satisfy your regrets about your history. Believe whatever you wanted. Just I wanted to clear that Turks doesn't hurt civilians in Syrian border. Peace.
The Turkish Armed Forces carried out three major exercises in the past month, including one of the largest planned military drills - Ephesus-2024. Around 11,000 personnel from some 45 countries participated. While the first phase of Ephesus-2024 kicked off in April, the second phase took place in May in the country's west.
Wow all impressive! The ships and all- Congratulations on the news! also on a smaller note I was really impressed with your backing up skills. Hard to do and you slotted the boat in a tight spot.
Siz hala Ataturk turkiyesi zannediyorsunuz galiba, şaka misiniz, gomduler onu artik, gezi falan bitti o iş, osmanliya verilen ara sona erdi, tbmm konusmalarini da takip etmiyorsunuz galiba
There is a large naval base at Aksaz and they are conducting military exercise routinely. No need to get nervous. But you need to monitor notam announcements.
Its a pretty good indication you're in the wrong spot if you can see 3 submarines. Navies have a habit of treating them like testicles. Very sensitive, never to be seen family jewels that you get defensive about if anyone goes near them. You can be sure they had Atticus 2 and all who sail in her under a microscope of intelligence evaluation and a weapons lock. And whilst of course they weren't in any danger, I venture to suggest making any naval force nervous or interrupting their exercises to the point they move onto an intercept course is something you should be at least a little bit nervous about.
Or better stay away from countries where being American is a problem. I was told twice to hide my American flag. I would rather stay in European countries
This was most likely Efes, one of the largest naval exercise in the region. There were almost 50 ships joining this year. It is possible they were there on the observers' day with all ships passing in line to salute the flagship. .
I am a Navy veteran and as mentioned by rayboebel, exercises are happening constantly in order to maintain a level of readiness. You did great communicating with the Turkish warship. Stay vigilant, stay safe.
These videos have totally changed my impression of Turkey. I spent a day in Ankara, and several days at Incirlik Air Base and found the people off base to be unfriendly unless trying to sell you something. Maybe it was due to us obviously being military even though we were not in uniform. However I have noticed that when tourists are spending money everyone is friendlier...
@@vonheiseComing to Turkey as a soldier of another country and as a guest are different stories. That surroundings of incirlik base are business chamber to make money from foreign soldiers. If you leave that area and be a tourist and guest in any city people wellcome you.
I’m Turkish and living in Florida. I can say that you are being such a beautiful place on earth like a piece from heaven. Florida is not so beautiful like Turkey to be honest 😅
Türkiye is a tourism country. Every year, nearly 50 million foreign people come and have a holiday. Turkey is one of the safest countries in the world for foreign people. Turkish army is the most noble in the world and is one of the strongest armies
You just passed through the largest annual Turkish Naval excercise called Deniz Kurdu II - 2024 (Sea Wolf II - 2024) consisting of about 100 surface vessels, 8 submarines, 39 aircraft, dozens of UAVs, 15.000 personnel, several SAS teams with lots of live fire. The Marina should have told you about it and/or you should have checked the Navtex.
the Turkish warship is fully aware of what is in your sailboat and what is not. since it is known that you are not a threat, not even a coast guard boat has come to accompany you.
In late 1983, friends of mine chartered a bareboat in St. Vincent and sailed down to Grenada, anchoring for the night. Early the next morning they awoke to a military helicopter hovering above them telling them to vacate the area. He turned around to see a dozen ships from the U.S. Navy, including a carrier, destroyers and other assorted ships a few miles away. Needless to say, they brought in the anchor and headed north as the invasion of Grenada began.
I was so confused when I read your comment first because of “Granada” I immediately thought this was going on in the Mediterranean sea. I think you’re talking about Grenada
I back packed all over Turkiye in the late 80's. I still consider it my most loved trip. Wonderful people, food and I felt completely safe there. Visted Ephesus as well, such a beautiful place.
It is true that peoples of the Mediterranean are warm and friendly. They are familiar with all kinds of nations. Yet, never put your guard down in any place on earth. There may always be some to take advantage of you especially in big cities where everyone is a stranger. May peace be upon us all living and nonliving.
How do you know that they are safe?? In a country that is no 1 in smuggling, human trafficking, and much others to expect from an authoritarian Ethnically orriented governance.
you are saying 'this is f*cking ridicilous' and stuff, how about checking the NAVTEX before sailing, sir? It is a planned military practice and they were nice enough to you. You sail with your wife and child and you sail without checking NAVTEX in conflicted areas of mediterranean sea?
@@frederickmuhlbauer9477 I prefer Marmaris as well. Antalya is a beautiful place but the humidity is too high. Marmaris is a lot windy and a lot less humid.
Pretty amused that the Turkish warship gave you a course of 296 to steer - asking anyone to steer a course down to one degree is pretty difficult. All in all I think they wanted you to stay out of their exercise area, potentially they're shooting things off etc.
19:51 I'm Turkish and they weren't talking with you. They said something like "You should be there in 36 minutes.(to another soldier)" - "They're done." - "Pull the markers the actual speed is 7". You tried to contact with them in mid-operation. LoL
Türkiyeye hoş geldiniz.. Askeri tatbikat zamanına denk gelmeniz kötü olmuş. Rahat olun konuştukdan sonra size güvenli mesafeden destek olur ve yardım ederler... iyi tatiler...
The new filleter you had is good for filleter one or two ton of water. After that, you should have to rinse with salt water. The cristal part catches calcium in water but it covers with calcium after two ton of water. If you regularly rinse with sea water, you can use it for a very very long time till the cristals depletes. You can find cristal part anywhere in turkiye. All millitary drills starts in april and end in the end of may for not disturbing tourists. You can't see any millary drills in the whole summer time in Turkiye.
I witnessed Turkish army feeding Syrian and Kurdish families in Syrian board right in the civil war, they were absolutely kind and helpful to people. This army doesn't like war, they follow the saying of founder of Turkey: peace at home, peace in the world
They are not warships, Turkish Army Ensures Peace only. They are kind of 🎉Peaceboats. Welcome to Turkiye Our Friends and Allies, Not the largest but safest army in the world.
Welcome to our beautiful country, please be our guest at any time because whoever loves Turkey, we love them unconditionally. We always say this about our army: "The Turkish Armed Forces inspire confidence in friends and fear in enemies." As you are guests in our country, you are our friends and a valuable part of our family. So, may God protect your beautiful family from evil. Have a good journey... PS: I am sorry to hear about your beautiful daughter's illness, get well soon. Congratulations on your second baby. I hope he/she is born healthy and you will live many years of happiness together ❤💕
I remember this exercise, LoL, You were in middle of "Efes tatbikatı" that's largest annual exercise of Turkish Navy. Because of recent delivery of local frigate program and Unmanned ship programs alongside new tactics deployed in Ukraine war. They had long list of stuff on their list this year and it was the largest exercise conducted in recent years.
Being former US Navy, exercises go on all the time. Sometimes they are joint with other NATO nations. Sometimes, it was just us. Either way, best to stay clear. In a confined area, its not as easy, but you made it! Congrats on baby #2 and hope that Isa is feeling better!!
It is of course dangerous. They are maybe targeting small empty vessel which is look like your ship. Plus this area probably announced for training zone with navtex from Turkish Navy.
As a Turkish soldier, we are doing our best to protect you and ensure peace. As the Western press has pointed out, we are not boogeyman people, on the contrary, hospitality is very important to us and you are our guest :)
Probably submerged submarine drills. Sailing vessels have been struck by subs at periscope depth or in the process of surfacing. They might have even ordered the boats surfaced until you transited out of the area to avoid any issues.
You should have checked NAVTEX always. Especially between Türkiye and Greece, there is a war of navtex :)) Read carefully drill zones and shooting exercises. Happened to us too, we had to change our course.
Believe me ,our warship or any other soldiers or our policemans aren't deadlier than American police.Turkish coasts are very narrow. The area that you enter was probably a drill zone for the navy. Enjoy your trip, we love you ❤
There are high taxes for especially consumer electronics/products in Turkey while it is much lower for machine parts etc. Because Turkey is a net importer government is trying to limit 'luxury' imports by making them more expensive with high taxes. Therefore manufacturing products could actually enter the country quite cheaply especially with trade agreements with EU. So i really doubt an engine would be cheaper in Greece unless it is a US brand or something which isn't very popular in Turkey.
Guys, Turkish navy conducts massive naval exercises in that area since forever nothing new or odd. Actually that one could be the famous " Navy Wolf" mass exercise...
Ikr, i'm a little surprised they weren't escorted more aggressively even if they sailed through no-entry zone. I guess the operation commander decided to go easy on them, they were no danger to the navy but to themselves. Americans act so careless sometimes even if their own military is always quite serious. If this was US navy they were going to be all over them, even board them perhaps..
most of the mediterranean especially Göcek have life changing experiences for sailors i think. such an amazingly clean and heart warming wonder of nature
Watching Jordon do boat projects with dad brain adds a whole new element of interest. Baby is such a trooper. Hope round two pregnancy is a smooth sail
22:22 this is the reason why it was dangerous for you :) They are practicing and small vessels are too small to watch out for a destroyer :) Navtex is a good idea before sailing :) Oh and congrats on the new sailor :) If it is a boy then put his middle name Mustafa as a reference to the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the place where you discovered the good news :)
Every seaman should check the actual NAVTEX limitations for maritime traffic in the Mediterraine Sea! Additional there are many smugglers of refugees on the way!
You said very nice things about Turkey in the comments. I hope we can welcome you with our kind and hospitality when you come our country. I congratulate our military for directing you to the safe zone with a non-malicious attitude.
Such exercises are necessary so that millions of people can live safely and hundreds of thousands of tourists can holiday comfortably in Turkey. Just as the American or British navies do such exercises, the Turks have to do them too. Türkiye is a very developed country in terms of security and health. You can have a holiday with peace of mind...
they are not making exercise sir, they are protecting and showing force, that has to be done... epic quality videos you have, sail safe, love from Turkei
Hey there, kinda scary for a first time encounter with a foreign countries navy, but our commanders lead you properly and gently you dont have to define videos caption “CHASED by a Turkish Warship. TURKISH ARMY (AIR,LAND,NAVY) is the one always with a mercy. No one will never get shot down in Turkish sea area. Just relax next time alright 😄 Congrats on your new coming baby love, health, peace 🙏🏻
I don’t know why more people don’t stand “behind” the helm , facing the Stern, when backing (reverse) in tight spots, you can just drive it like a car & you don’t have to worry or remember which way to turn the wheel to make the boat go in the opposite direction….. It’s just like going forward!
Just be careful if you try that, your instincts on which direction for throttle and transmission can end up backwards and it can be super easy to be in reverse when you are wanting forward and vice versa.
Turkish health system is one of the best in the world, it used to be better 5 years ago tbh. Fethiye is well developed city they have really big state and private hospitals around.
Great episode, this is the only channel that I look forward to. It’s almost a ritual on Saturday morning with my coffee. I’ve been with Jordan and Desiree from the start and I feel like I know them personally. I love to see a young family growing. It reminds me of what’s right with the world.
18:20 The title of the video is intentionally sensational to get more clicks. Obviously, you had the privilege of sailing in the most beautiful area of the Mediterranean, which is sovereign Turkish territory. Although you didn't do your homework by checking the navtex, the Turkish ship put their role in the maneuver aside, warned you kindly, and escorted you out of the area with your safety in mind. 19:58 Later, it gets funny that the submarines are confused with warships. 20:05 Why would the navy ships in a maneuver target you??? With your safety in mind, they are probably pausing their maneuver until you leave the previously declared navtex area. When you finally decide to communicate at 20:26, they kindly respond. Obviously, the whole fleet there is acting with the safety of the other boats in the area. Your ego-centric attitude toward someone else's sovereign territory is surprising.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that at least a third of your anchorages are the best you have ever been to. You should make a list of "best ever" and then at some point prioritize the top 20 in order... I use the simple filter on my camper, but change it often. Better filter, like external electric power filters tend to get stolen if not locket to something. We use a Berkey for our drinking water and store in non leaching plastic containers. Is your water maker broken?
Congrats on baby #2, guys. Issa is getting so big and cuter every minute. Now you just need that catamaran to fit your family. Come on....even Delos is getting a catamaran after a bazillion years on the Amel.
I just watched a video that Waterline Stories uploaded today on the Ehime Maru which was sliced in half by a US sub that was doing demos. I'm glad there were ships to warn you to get out of the area.
"I wish I had seen this video earlier. We could have fixed it together at Göcek marina. Also, the filter you bought is a 2-set one. If you switch to the 4-set one, you can obtain cleaner water for your child. As a pediatrician, I recommend the 4-set option, especially pay attention to the pH and resin notes inside. Welcome to Turkey and goodbye :)))) Best wishes..."
Dear brother, you have found the day when Turkey's largest naval drill was held in order to set off. They might think you were spying and detain you. Lucky for you, there were personnel from 45 countries, including American soldiers, in the exercise. They did not think of you as a spy.
Turkey is a tourism country. Every year, nearly 50 million foreign people come and have a holiday. In Turkey, no one thinks of foreigners as spies when they see them, they think of them as tourists.
Congratulations! Excited for baby #2. Old man story: when I was in Greece in 1999, we were in a harbor enjoying drinks at sun down. Off on the horizon I noticed some odd flashing lights. After staring at the point they were coming from for a while, I realized I was looking at the silhouette of a war ship each time I saw a flash. Turns out they were lobbing missiles over our heads and into the conflict in Kosovo. (Or at least training for it.)
