Ian and Chris get out their thermal underwear on a freezing cold Chesil Beach and attempt to catch a cod or two in unfavourable conditions. Sea fishing from the UK shore
Cheers Ian ( and Chris) the view from the top of the hill is majestic. Not sure if you realise but your vids are a god send to those of us who can no longer get out fishing, thanks very much very much appreciated.
Ah Philip that makes all the effort worthwhile!!!! It brought a smile to my face…. Merry Xmas and thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Happy New Year Ian and Chis, catching up with your vids, thankyou👍Lovely Codling and Gilts👍👍Were you using frozen black lug Ian?What bait did Chris catch the Gilts' on please?Tightlines🐟🎣
Hi Jeff lovely to hear from you!! So glad you are enjoying the back catalogue!😂😂 From memory codling on fresh black and gilts on fresh blow lug! Happy new year cheers ian
A pleasure as always.👏👏 A good assorted bag,🎣🎣🎣🎣 and some beautiful shots of the sun on the sea, with the usual glorious sunset.🌅 Thank you for sharing.👍👍 Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
I think clear water is good at night but during the day the bigger fish can find the smaller ones easier! So far even at night I've not had any 'pin whiting' in the much clearer water. Just the usual dogs, conger, sizeable whiting. Tight lines!
Hi Kerry yes difficult in day for sure at the moment we need a blow to colour the sea a bit I think! Looking outside today we may have it!!! Merry Xmas cheers ian
Hi Ian, hope all is well with you and Chris. I have a quick question and hope you can give some advice, recently I went to Chesil fishing just past dragon teeth with big swell, about 2-.5m, and in one session I lost about 6 rigs because they were buried. I don't know you have any advice how to avoid that. I have tried to put the rod high with straight line but still within few minutes it started to build up and if I didn't reel in quickly then my rig would be buried very quickly. I was thinking maybe I needed to pick a spot where less sudden deep drop to avoid that. Thanks Ian.
Always difficult in big swell unfortunately. Rods high, 6 or 7oz grippers tight line etc. sometimes you have to accept it’s too difficult to hold bottom and stay out of the shingle!!!! I’ve had to cut short sessions before due to poor conditions!!! Generally I won’t fish in anything over 2m swell it’s just not worth it!!!! Cheers ian
Superb video Ian, really enjoyed watching you two catching in stunning surroundings. Great to see some cod are still about even in daylight and clear water. Wishing You, Chris and family a great Christmas and productive New Year and looking forward to more of your fishing adventures.
So pleased you enjoyed watching the video!!! It was a lovely day out but absolutely freezing cold! Am going to target beaches locally in the Bristol Channel over Xmas fingers crossed for a few!! Happy Xmas and a great new year to you!!! Cheers ian
Well done both of you. Fished Abbotsbury Saturday 17/12 with my mate Chris. Fished the tide up for 5 hours with 4 rods between us using lug and squid. Not a single bite. Other anglers near us had nothing as well. Like you there were no nuisance fish and the baits were very much intact after 20 mins. Having said that would have been delighted to see a doggy or a whiting to save a blank. Maybe the deeper water at the Ferrybridge was a help. The wind was south easterly and did restrict casting distance.
Hi Kevin yes it’s just very difficult in the clear water… I do think Ferrybridge deep water helps a bit….. but only a bit!😂😂 looking like a change in the weather coming let’s hope the fishing improves!!! Merry Xmas cheers ian
I spoke to a guy fishing near the rocks on preston beach at Greenhills at the beginning of December, he had a gilthead bream. The sea is still warmish or maybe they are over wintering. Great video as always. I'll wish you, Chris and all your subscribers a very Merry Christmas and a New Year of good fortune and fishing. Tight lines
Hi Andy personally i think it’s a general warming of the sea…. I guess even one degree makes a huge difference if you are a fish?? Who knows for sure certainly not me! So pleased you enjoyed the video Merry Christmas to you too cheers ian
Hi ian n chris you ok, thanks for the watch again great stuff. Well done on your catch. The ice as i speak is finaly starting to thaw after 2 wekks , rain n wind on its way. I havn't been out as i go on my elecric mountain bike its just been to dodgy with all my kit ,alot of the way gritters don't go. All the best ian n chris n have a merry xmas from GRIMSBY.
Hi Carl wow definitely would be chilly biking it to your mark in this weather for sure! It’s getting warmer here too very windy and just above freezing! I’m probably going to fish locally in the Bristol Channel next couple of weeks there should be some cod about here now!! Have a great Xmas and a fish filled new year cheers ian
Well done on getting out and catching a mixed bag in this cold weather, the Gilts must have been a right surprise this time of year but that's chesil for you, looks like the number of anglers there has dropped off along the beach.
Hi Fred yes we had virtually the whole beach to ourselves!! I’m sure a SW wind stirring it up will have the anglers back again!! Chesil can throw up anything anytime for sure…… you just never know do you? Cheers ian
I am sitting in the lounge of a hotel in Torquay looking out at the sea with 50mph winds, rain lashing down and your notification pops up. An absolute tonic. Just waiting for the holiday period to finish so I can wet a line. Great video Ian. Stay safe and tight lines . Mike.
Hi Mike yes it’s certainly blowing well up here too! That should stir things up a bit!! Thanks as always for watching and taking the time to comment Merry Christmas cheers ian
And a fish filled new year to you too Gary!!! Am looking forward to the warmer weather next week I’ve had enough of ice and cold fishing fingers!!😂😂 cheers ian
Well done lads putting up with the cold and a few fish as well nice way to finnish the year maybe have a good christmas and a new year full of fish cheers
Thanks Danny it certainly was very cold just glad to winkle out a couple it wasn’t the most hectic of sessions to be sure!! Have a great Xmas mate! Cheers ian
Isn’t that so often the way?? To be honest I was just glad to get a couple in tricky conditions…. That clear sea definitely didn’t help! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Great perseverance, which paid off with some good sport and a very exotic double shot for Chris : Bream in December !! Great video, looking forward to the next one - Seasons greetings to you all
Yes Kevin it just keeps surprising you doesn’t it…. That’s what makes it such a special place!!! Have a wonderful xmas mate thanks again for watching cheers ian
Yeah absolutely freezing cold mate I saw your recent offerings it looked very cold!!! Going to give local beaches a go next few weeks hopefully the wind/temperature changes to more favourable conditions!! Merry Xmas cheers ian
Reel Fun in Portishead near Bristol or Abbotsbury angling by Chesil. Alternatively West Bay Angling Centre or Weymouth Angling Centre. Hope that helps 👍🎣
Hi Anthony I was actually pleased with two cod as the sea was very clear…. Chris also lost a good fish in the last wave☹️ The gilts were unusual I must say! So pleased you enjoyed the video thanks again for watching it’s much appreciated cheers ian
Cheers Ian ... Chesil looks so Majestic, though it must have been so cold to be out you looked so cold 🥶🥶Well done guys for sticking it out and getting a couple of nice Codling. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and Chris a great Christmas and new year, thanks so much for sharing your videos with us in 2022 and look forward to seeing more in 2023 ... stay safe guys and stay warm 👍🎣🎣
Hi Stephen yes Chesil on a calm day is special though as you say it was freezing!!! Thanks for your support this year it is much appreciated!! Merry Xmas and Happy New Year cheers ian
As usual, another watchable video, I do enjoy watching them, not a bad session cod and beam etc - keep them coming Best wishes to you and Chris for Xmas and new year, you both bring enjoyment to a lot of people, for sure Go Steady
Derek it’s always lovely to hear from you and your kind words!! Comments like yours make all the effort worthwhile! Merry Xmas to you too!! I will pass on your best wishes to Chris! Cheers ian
Yes I hope me and chris can get out over Xmas period if the weather is ok ! Currently blowing a gale so not today for sure!!! Merry Xmas to you cheers ian
Dreaded first cast fish, either goes red letter day or waiting hours for the next fish, usually the latter is what us angler's get. Great effort on persevering nabbing a brace of codling. Surprised to see young gilts on open water this time of year, still around in the creek's and estuaries here in Cornwall, well done Chris on that capture. As always best wishes to you both, Chris. 🎄
Yes I thought we were in for a great session after the first fish but it just went dead for hours unfortunately!! The gilts were a real surprise especially in December on Chesil. Merry Xmas to you and thanks again for watching cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing cheers if the long distance forecast can be trusted a light on shore breeze unless a dramatic change going to give it a good go regardless been on the solent lately lots of small whiting and dogs but miss the big beach merry Christmas
The sea looked lovely, a hard session with only a few fish shown, hope to see another session before Christmas, if not thank you for the entertainment and the effort to share this, good luck and have a nice Christmas.
Yes a hard session indeed…. I’m not sure Mrs C will give me a pass before Xmas now unfortunately ☹️ Merry Christmas to you too and a fish filled new year!!! Cheers ian
And you too!!! I’m going to fish the Thyers comps this year for a bit of fun I’ve never fished competitively before. Maybe see you there as I saw you fished some last year! Cheers ian
