Hi Andy thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Glad you enjoyed the video. Yes a bass always welcome at night ....the sound of that rachet going off!!!! Brilliant! Cheers Ian
Ah thanks Simon so glad you enjoyed it as much as we did being there!!! Mind you I’m still recovering it’s hard on the old body these days!!!! Cheers again for watching...Ian
Hello again Michael nice to hear from you! Yes it was a really enjoyable trip! I’ve just looked at the forecast for next week and it’s looking good too so I’m going to have to hand in another permission slip to Mrs C I think!!! We were lucky this trip in that the fish were obliging in the daylight hours which always makes for a better video. If you use lots of static light at night you negate your chances of fish like Chris’s bass. Hope you are keeping safe cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing Yes like the fresh water anglers you want to keep light of the water at night esp if your fishing close in. I'm looking for a couple of weeks of decent weather so i can get over to the west coast of Scotland, on holiday for a couple of weeks so hope to get a fair bit of fishing in,
Michael Bird oh lovely! I’m from Newcastle and spent many holidays on Scotland west coast! Usually north of Ullapool....around Lochinver and Scourie. Must get back there again! Cheers Ian
Thanks Gavin yes people moan about the spiders and they are a pain but without them there would be fewer smoothound....anyway fishing should improve week by week until September now!!! Cheers Ian 👍👍🎣🎣
Thank you for sharing a very enjoyable watch. Well worth the long shingle trudge to distance yourselves from others and well worth it with a session like that. Tight lines. 🎣🐟
Hello again Mark yes the walk is arduous at times but usually worth the effort. Certainly Chris probably wouldn’t have had the bass with other anglers nearby. Cheers thanks again for watching! Ian
Hi Alan thanks for watching again and taking the time to comment! So glad you enjoyed it!! Having nice feedback always makes the effort in producing a new post worth it!!! Let’s hope there are better days ahead for us all! Cheers ian
Excellent session, and a thoroughly enjoyable video to watch. It goes to show that you don't have to hit the horizon to catch decent fish, that was a cracking Bass 🎣🎣👍👍
Hi Anthony thanks for taking the time to comment! Yes vile conditions but a short cast over the breakers was all that was needed! The take from the bass was something else!!😂 cheers Ian
Hi again Gareth lovely to hear from you again! Yes we were lucky with the day ...didn’t expect to catch as much as we did! Always a nice surprise!!! Cheers Ian
Hi mate just lucky this time I think as it hasn’t been fishing well at all.....but if your lines not in the water.....cheers thanks again for watching! Ian
You are very welcome ....its always nice to hear from viewers such as yourself...who always take a moment to comment.....it makes it worthwhile!! Cheers Ian
Enjoyable to watch, as always, no doubt to fish by yourselves like that, you did the hours march ! (Wish I had the legs to do that ! ) good session, especially catching a SH on a mackerel head, go Steady and stay safe Derek
Yes it was the long walk....I’m still recovering 3 days later!!!! But definitely worth the effort if only for the peace and quiet! Glad you enjoyed the video cheers ian
Hello again I’m sure that you will have a great time! The spiders will have moved away and there should be whitebait around to keep the bass and mackerel happy! Also gurnard and early bream too !!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Yes the bass was nice bonus we usually fish a rod each close in at night and this time Chris got lucky! Thanks for watching again and taking the time to comment! Ian
@@ianclarkfishing had a nice day last week on a charter boat only 3 on board, caught 17 bass, kept 2 and had a good time, after beach fishing having 3 blanks.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
Glen Cronin I think I’ve mentioned I have no sea legs at all!!!! I’m sure if I could keep my stomach contents in my stomach I would enjoy boat fishing immensely 😂🤢🤢🤢 cheers Ian
nearly 29 mins of fishing ,really enjoyed that as always , like i mentioned before i have yet to fish chesil ,but when i do i will make sure you and chris are fishing it the same time ,you both seem to get it right ,keep them coming ATB
29 minutes all for you Troy!!! Glad you enjoyed the video! We were certainly lucky to catch a few when everyone had said Chesil fishing poorly. The fishing hopefully will get better now until my favourite month September!! Cheers Ian
well done you two lovely video to watch make me want to fish there but a long way to travel from north east kent mainly fish deal but mainly dogs still always nice to be out thanks again
Hi again Danny nice to hear from you again! It is a long drive for you unfortunately..... we live just south of Bristol and it’s an hour and a half from there but well worth it!!
Thanks I tried using my iPhone on a tripod to add something extra....that’s ok if it’s not raining or my phone will be ruined!! Thanks for watching again cheers Ian
@@ianclarkfishing Forgot to tell...same days ( due to being my birthday) I have fished Portland end Ferrybridge area and caught lots of red gurnard , few breams , only one small hound , few mackerel and stopped after midnight because of the eels ( I feel pity for them though so I do not like catching them )
Excellent session Ian, some lovely fish I’m raring to go fishing 😁 finish my treatment on Tuesday, and if all’s well I’ll be out 👍👍👍👍keep up the great films.🎣🎣🎣🎣👏👏
Hi Gary that’s great news I’m sure the fish are trembling at the prospect of your fishing return!!! It’s going to be a great summer if the weather stays as it is! Good luck and enjoy the fishing when it happens! Cheers ian
Awesome session Ian!! We fished Cogden that night and Pete got a good double figure Smoothie.. like you say, they go for it!! Great video as always mate 👌🐟
I also was at Cogden before Fathers Day and caught a double figure smoothie, the first one caught was not that big though. They started to come on to the feed about 21:15pm, it took me ages to get the big one in as the current was pulling the fish to the left of me. Another great video Ian, keep them coming!!!👍
Oh John you have no idea! We both the wrong side of 60 ....it’s getting tougher every season! But the further east from the Teeth you go the better the fishing without a doubt!
Yeah Shaun the walk to the mark is a killer and then it was low water and a leg busting walk to the rods after casting out!! Unfortunately neither of us is getting any younger....but as long as we can we will be there!!! Cheers ian
What really are the top beaches right now? My local top beach used to be Orford Island for Cod. Disappointing to see some top vlogs only pulling out whiting and dogs. How good or bad is fishing? Specimen vs quantity?
Interesting question definitely a lack of cod last couple of years. I tend to set my goals low these days and hope for the best!! Chesil usually consistent but even that not producing at the moment!!☹️ thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Very poor handling. Smoothies need to be 'cradled' A lack of bone structure makes them venerable when out of water, never pick them up by the tail. They also need to be gently reintroduced to the sea. Due to their fragile bone structure throwing them back can damage their internal organs.
@@ianclarkfishing Thanks for your reply Ian, lots of info out there. Maybe your next video you could educate people on how to handle this fantastic fish. Lot's of people watch your channel and it would be great as you are a ambassador of our coastlines could show people how to look after our fish! Cheers, Brian.
@@ianclarkfishing Good man! I think it's very important to be responsible. I only know about this as the lockdown has turned me into a full on geek! I'm mainly found a bit further West than you 😉 Tight lines and I'm sure we'll meet on the beach one day 👍
Ian sorry to ask maybe a silly question but I live a very long drive from Chesil bit always wanted to fish it. Is there a free capark for fishing or by the day or anywhere to park the car for free. Appreciate any help. Cheers Adam
Hi Adam car parking depends where you go on Chesil. At Cogden there is a national trust car park free to members but pay and display otherwise. At West bexington, Abbotsbury and Portland end there are pay and display car parks. Chesil fishing poorly at the moment if you coming down come in October after a big storm and you will catch!!! Cheers Ian
Off to Chesil in 2 weeks. I won't be dragging or launching fish about. Our sport is under enough scrutiny as it is without giving those who oppose use ammunition.
the reason they are only catching baby smoothies is because of the bait they are using..if you want a decent sized smut then you must use crab as bait , doesn't have to be peeler crab to work , any crab will do , even hardbacks , doesn't matter . chesil is notorious for its dogfish , anytime you add any kind of fish or sandeel to your bait then you are going to attract the dogs, to avoid the dogs stick to worm or crab...I must also comment on the handling of the smoothies , you should never drag them ( or any other fish ) up the shingle and you should also PUT the fish back into the sea and not just chuck it in . A big thumbs up to these guys for the distance that they have walked for this session , looks to me that they have walked way past the dragons teeth and that is very hard going...
Hi chris lovely to hear from you! Yes me and chris both fine. We haven’t been sea fishing for a few weeks though we may give our local beach at Brean a go tomorrow if the wind is not too bad! We went river fishing on the Bristol Avon last week and had a few nice chub. We have pencilled in early March for our first chesil trip since early January!! Cheers ian
Lovely video as always Ian, thank you! I was in Ferrybrige on that day, luckily less spidercrabs. May I ask you an advice with bass fishing? Altough I frequently tried, I never had the pleasure to get a bass in Chesil (usually I leave a bonus rod close (30 mt) when I fish @ sunset/ night/ sunrise. I use a running ledger set up, long snoode with either squid or mackerel. Done this mostly in Abbotsubury or Ferrybrige (only seen bass caught there). Thank you again!
Hi thanks for watching again! Our bass tactics very similar to yours...running lever with mackerel head usually....if it’s calm will cast only 5 yards out but you fun the risk of line getting buried in the shingle....keep recasting every hour to check bait and keep in very close....Rachet on and no headlamp light!!!! Better done well away from other anglers.... cheers ian
Lovely easy style with your video and altogether very enjoyable. If you dont mind me saying, try putting the rod under your left armpit. Give your right hand some room to wind in.
Hi Paul so glad you enjoyed the video! Yes I’m completely cack handed in many ways and I get what you are saying but I’m not comfortable doing that!!! Strange I know!! Ah well my wife always says I’m stupid 😂cheers Ian
Ian your videos would be brilliant if you treated the fish with some respect! I know I've commented on this before but to see another one with you dragging the fish up the shingle and hanging a Smoothound by the tail is just horrible!
great session mate...as soon keith and i left you the other day first thing i said was i wish i was going with you...anyway...meet up on brean soon....steve..
Hi Steve glad you enjoyed the video!! Yes it’s going to be blowing strong this weekend! Generally use size 4 or 6 sakuma strong aberdeens pennel rugged. They have enough strength to land the hounds but small enough to catch the bream etc. Cheers Ian
