Fantastic photography of the wildlife crusing a park in Central Los Angeles! Good job setting up the camera in just the right spot. P22, the mountain lion, has become somewhat of an icon for wildlife as it meets suburbia in California and is in the news again here.

I will say, these are incredible photos! But, it's not "downtown LA". It's Hollywood. Still urban, yes but not quite the same. Downtown LA is all concrete and sky scrapers, like most cities. Hollywood has the hills, including Griffith Park which is 8 square miles of natural resources including an abundant population of deer. P22's biggest threat is probably rat poison that his smaller prey ingest.

What he is trying to convey is that, unlike any other Alpha city in the world, LA has a large cat living in the middle of the city, in our urban park....large urban park...but still in the middle of 12 million people.

Last April a friend and I went to do hiking to Arroyo Seco park at Monterey County (near of the Pinnacles) and we saw fresh mountain lion pads. At that area you can find the animals that you can see at this video and snakes too.

I went with a friend to Arroyo Seco (a park near of Monterey Ca.) for hiking last April and we saw a mountain lion pads, I was too worried because those animals are huge! Near of there at the Pinnacles park, my friend asked to a park worker if at that area might be mountain lions and he said no, but seriously I didn't believe it because I saw the fresh pads on the other park near of there. Later a friend told me that at the area there are the animals I saw at this video.

Isn't that necklace too big on the cat ? why not just put a micro chip, i think technicaly it's possible when you see the size of a smartphone or a computer processor...

Its not a microchip, its a location device thing (yes english is not my first language). To track it, it needs batteries that can last for weeks or months.

It’s not very encouraging to hear someone from National Geographic who can’t tell a downtown from a wooded park in the middle of an urban area. P22 in Pershing Square would be downtown. This isn’t even downtown Hollywood. It’d be one thing for ET to make this mistake, but National Geographic?

Calm down. The photographer was trying to capture the essence of a wild animal whose small habitat is surrounded on all side by brightly lit urban landscape. And he nailed it.
