CHASING BEES (Original Song) - A Song A Week #12 

I have a german shepherd and he has never learned to leave the bees alone. We call them "sky jalapeños."

My Pyrenese mountain dog never hunted bees or flies, she died at the age of 11 1/2 years old. But our budgie hunted ants. He would run on the floor and cut ants in half with his beak and would do a little noise every time he got one. We had him for about 12 years, but he was older than that. He used to be my sister's teacher pet and he was given away to my sister.

Our 2 year old Old English Sheepdog chases carpenter bees, and has caught them. She happily munches on them. The one time I saw her catch a wasp instead, she got stung and yelped. That didn't change her behavior towards the carpenter bees. She still goes after them. Our previous OES enjoyed when the Cicadas emerged. He happily ate as many as he could catch. "Crunchy and tastes like chicken" is what the veterinarian told us when we asked if it was ok for him to indulge.

My dog does the same though. Runs towards them. Always have a benadryl handy 😂

When I was in 6th grade, I would chase bees and catch them by cupping my hands over them. i never got stung, not once. i have no idea how. but i relate to your dog LOL

I've got 16 dogs, 7 which are German shepherds, all are rescues or were born here taking in a pregnant rescue. Anyway I also keep bees, most either tire of chasing bees unless they are flying right next to them. However, those few that think it's fun, getting stung doesnt seem to stop them. Like benadryl is good to have on hand, that said never had one I needed to take to the vet, the normally swell a bit then it goes away. As far as puppy behavior in shepherds, they are high energy dogs so if not given things to entertain and mentally challenge them, they can show puppy activity all through their lives, including chasing bees as it's something to do. Also if his lines come from any working lines the high energy could be always be there. Have a 9yr old you would think was 3 she comes from working lines.

I totally missed the commentary on the allotment somehow, but I was dealing with a leaky water heater. Ouch! Here in the USA, our community gardens are rented yearly. I've currently have two plots, as well as gardening in my own back yard and my neighbors back yard (this year, I am a gardening glutton). A single pot in the current community garden is 10 ft sq., so way less than a tennis court. One per person, but my neighbor signed up with me. I did an internship in Germany and wrote up a paper on their Schrieber gartens which are really cool, since they actually own their plots and often put little huts and arbors on them. When traveling in Germany, I saw a lot of the Schrieber gartens near the train tracks, I assumed that the land was cheaper there, hence the place to put them. I hope you enjoy yours! I got conflicting advice about slugs - some say plant marigolds , because the6 hate them. Others said don’t plant marigolds, because slugs love them 🤔. The best thing I’ve found is a beer trap - but it’s horrible to empty because it stinks 😷
