Chasing fish in the winter is my favorite past time. Each year as the water temperature drops on Boone lake I troll for hybrid, striper, and brown trout.

One thing I have learned is that you can tie a buoy to the end of your cast net rope, throw it, drop the buoy overboard, let the wind do whatever it wants, give it time to sink. Then go back, pick up your buoy and gather your bait. It can remedy the headaches of boat control on really windy days! A gatorade bottle works well for a buoy. I just hope you don’t get another school of gar! You remember that I’m sure! 😂

Nice! I was fortunate to meet a friend of yours (Travis) while fishing Douglas Dam. He recommended that I check out your channel and I’m sure glad he did! Would you mind sharing information regarding the net and bait tank you used in this video? Enjoying watching and learning how to fish for those big stripers and hybrids.

That’s awesome! The net is called an old salt deep hole cast net. The bait tank is a 26 gal Moeller.

I have a few custom rods from Brummits bait and tackle in Hampton Tn. The Tackle box also has some great rods including some StriperX rods.

I would go to the base of Wilbur dam on Watauga river. There are tons of Trout everywhere. If you want to stick with Boone Lake, I recommend going to the beach/observatory area.
