I had the ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity to photograph an Aurora where I live in Australia. So even though I was settled in for a relaxing evening, I grabbed my gear and went out for a few hours to see what I could get.
I used my Fujifilm GFX50R with the GF 35-70 zoom, set up on my Freewell Travel Tripod.
Let me know if you were able to photograph the aurora, and how you faired.
All the gear used in this video is mine, bought at full retail with my own money.

Living in Aberdeenshire aurora events are fairly commonplace, there's even a song about it, but the one on Saturday night was like nothing I've seen before. I went to the Stonehaven war memorial and got some reasonable shots. Made a few simple errors in all the excitement but the experience of being there and seeing it was wonderful, you could see the colours in all directions with the naked eye. Truly magical, glad you were able to experience it too Greg.

So lucky to experience the aurora Greg. Some reasonable shot’s considering 👍🏼. The astronomers are predicting that there is more sun activity to happen in the coming weeks/months.. We missed out on the Saturday ☹️ But we took a chance as a Mothers Day treat for the wife, and headed out of Traralgon over to Yarram for tea at the pub and then stopped at Port Albert and waited in anticipation for about 3 hours on an absolute perfect clear sky night. …but nothing to see here ☹️. But did try my hand at some galactic core Milky Way shots with my G9 +9mm lens. Happy at some success at my 1st attempt with this type of photography We’ll go back again… but next time will be much better prepared. Cheers from Latrobe Valley (waiting for the next aurora)

@@GregCarrick is it still happening? I’m in VIC too, but in Flemington, lots of light pollution. I should make an effort to get out if there is still some action.

@@markwiemels No action. The KP number is as low as 2, and it needs to be above 6 for anything worth looking at. It was 9 Saturday night :)

I found out about it the same way, FB message from an guy in Tassie. Pointed my phone south to see if I could see anything then headed out to Lake Burrumbeet just west of Ballarat. Got some great shots I was really happy with. Headed out on Sunday night along with what seemed like half of Ballarat to an old rail trestle bridge (Nimmons Bridge) There was a bit of colour there but it had to be teased out of the file. All in all a fantastic experience and like you, this was the first one I have seen in my 60 years.

Ha, yeah, so many people saw photos of it on facebook and headed out Sunday night to see nothing. I had friends down the Mornington Peninsula saying the traffic was worse than Christmas.
