As someone who fenced in high school, Phil complaining about “flowchart players” pisses me off so much. In a match, you have to identify an opening or attack and respond instantly if you want to win. The only way you can do that is by drilling moves over and over until they become second nature to you. “Flowchart players” are how actual combat in real life works.
Also, there's this catch-22 that Phil has created. Someone who plays optimally is a flowchart player, but someone who doesn't play optimally and takes more risks is just randomly mashing buttons. There is no series of inputs you can enter that will convince the pigroach to shut up and take the L.

Phil is describing the same system that has classified him as a master without understanding that this is exactly how the game is supposed to be played. The game will rank you as master if you are really good with the mechanics, a pattern player, and can brute force yourself into wins. The Game will also rank other people differently. You can grind a Master level. You cannot bring master points. There is a system for this. We all are in it. Am I taking crazy pills? He sees the FUN part of the game as a negative thing. He sees the drive to compete as a BAD THING He sees winning as so terrible and difficult. He doesn't understand that games are fundamentally designed to be fun. A POSITIVE thing. You are supposed to enjoy playing a game, even if it scares you, because the risk is worth the reward! Does DSP not know that games are for fun times?

Season 16 of the DSP anime started off very slow then outta nowhere we'd get these bursts of story development... kinda mis directed but appreciated when you know the world.
He created a very elaborate web of false assumptions about the game, that he needs to explain his lossess to himself and the dents. He believes in all he says, despite it being devoid of any logic. This is a core trait of scrub mentality actually, which is 'my oponent plays in a non legit way, therefore I am better'.
