The descendants were very much a part of the Chateau until their grandson, Antoine (Tony) de Vallambrosa, died in in 1982. Madame brought the children back for a brief visit in 1903. Before her death (1921), she encouraged her son, Louis, to develop the Chateau in memoriam of his late father. Louis agreed and began his involvement with the North Dakota State Historical Society in 1936 when he gifted the site for preservation. Over the next few decades, he and his son were heavily involved in the development and interpretation of the site, even sending some of the Marquis’ and Marquise’s belongings back to be part of the artifact collection.
