I think it looks great, it’s very portable, it’s a good option for beginners who only make model kits occasionally. I quite like it myself, and if you can build 20 models with it without breaking it then it’s worth the money. But since it’s constantly running it might be burned out after painting 5 model kits😂
@@mosheep I'm using one for 4 months now, does the job at least as I'm not using it often. Downside is you can't configure the pressure to your preference.
I've had this cheap compressor+airbrush set just two years ago when I began modelling and wasn't sure if I was going to practice this hobby for a long time. It did a really honest job for one year and a half and I painted about 20 models with it. Of course, compared to a higher-end compressor, it's noisy and tends to get hot. But it did a real good job for more than a year. I've bought a new compressor a few month ago but I still keep this one and it still works flawlessly :)
I'm just starting my new hobby in building High grades Gunpla and I'm thinking to get one of these kit since I only have time like 2-3 days a month on building Gunplas since I have other things to do, so I don't want to spend a lot for airbrush kit. I guess I'm sold with your testimony. Thank you. How long did it become overheat? And if it overheats, does the compressor automatically turned off?
@@looniaz I don't remember well but I guess a bit more than half an hour before it gets hot. The main problem is the noise, if you have to concentrate on what you do during a long time. Headphones and good music while painting is a good workaround ;)
@@looniaz it doesn't shut off automatically, I have the point zero version without the pressure valve, I painted a mass of kits with it. For about $40usd you cannot go wrong if you're new to the hobby, but with all tools you MUST do maintenance. I cannot stress enough how much maintenance I've done on both of mine. They're really amazing for the money especially for fixed incomes. I rate the whole a nice 8.5/10 overall myself and I also know about 50 other builders who use theirs religiously. I know theres one that is going strong for 3 1/2 years and about 20 master grades alongside many High Grades. It also works for diorama work too!
Started model building as a lockdown hobby, bought a similar airbrush kit. It works fine for me. I am back to working full time and only build/paint once every week. I get pretty good results and don’t mind taking breaks.
Hello mate. I've started model building on the same situation. Since march/2020 I have exactly the kit shown on the video and I can't complain. Seven models (1/35 tanks) already done. I'm still learning but have noticed how easily I can use tamiya products and how hard Ammo and Italeri paints are (in my case) to apply because the tip always dry too soon and I have to stop and clean. Might be the wrong solvent but maybe the airbrush/compressor also are to blame.
Same situation, except for me the airbrush that came with the kit constantly clogged and wouldn’t spray no matter how thin the paint was. Bought a siphon feed from harbor freight and it works perfect
Bought a similar unit 2 years ago and still going strong and have built many car and aircraft models using it. Had some initial usage problems with things like spray nozzle adjustments (critical) and how much paint thinning was required, but I think that had more to do with the fact that this was my first airbrush rather than any fault of the unit. Had to replace hose but only because I stood on it. If you adjust pressure knob just so, I found compressor (yes, same Harley Davidson sound as the one on this vid) will only run as you're actually spraying and will shut off a couple of seconds after trigger release. Slightly thinner paint with these cheap units is also a big help.
Thank you for your Video I just ordered a kit similar to this yesterday. I am aware that you get what you pay for and I’m looking at this is starting point. As my skill and knowledge increase I’ll up grade components as needed. Thanks again.
Just got one today. Will be my first airbrush to start painting my models. Sounds like a decent one to start painting with! I'll upgrade it eventually but for now it is what I got :)
I have this one for quite a while now. I do occasionally paint when time permits and I think its perfect for smaller scale models like what I mostly do (sd and hg gunpla kits) been wanting to get a better set up tho as it is prone to have moisture build up despite having that moisture trap. Plus the airbrush it came with is sensitive to viscous paint and you may want to thin the paint you are using despite it being ready to use out of.the bottle. A 2½:1 ratio of thinner to paint is advisable based on my experience
got the this model dont know where to start ...this video was very helpful now I can start confidently its my first time doing air brush on my sculptures..
Have that same exact one I bought for around US$35 when I returned about 3 years ago. Still using it now even for my professional commissioned work with the only damaged part being the nozzle because i dropped the airbrush.
I bought a cheap Expo airbrush and compressor (£60) about 6 years ago. Struggled with it from the start. Generally wouldn't recommend cheap airbrush packages for beginners. I replaced the airbrush with a Sparmax Max-4 early last year and kept the compressor. This is 200% better! Although even the Sparmax is still a general purpose/beginners airbrush, the build quality and precision are so much better and that makes a huge difference.
I have one, I add a plastic bottle to make airflow more stable, it works fine for me, as a modest modeller building one or two kits a month, I just use it twice a month. Plus its quiet and low energy consumption.
Just bought it from your video Good option for begginners With some pratice you can easily learn how to diluate and use it Quite precise when you know how it works Built an FW190 1/72 with it and it’s the smallest you can do You can do very small dot with the right ratio of paint/diluant If you are a young modeller it’s perfect !
I've got this machine as a gift about 2 years ago and today I decided to use it for the first time...my mistake is that I waited to long to operate it and looks like the dc input from the air compressor is broken, it doesn't have the jack inside so I cannot connect it to power
Thank you for your great review. I am railway modeler, I need something to do weathering my trains, but I can not decide, if this will be enough or not. Your review was really helpfull. I subscribed to your channel for more great videos. Best regards
Now that's an opinion I was looking for : ) I was wondering if this kind of airbrush and compressor will do the work for WH40K miniatures priming. Thanks mate!
Would this be good for a few touchup spots with automotive paint on a vehicle? that pinpoint precision would be good for paint chips and also repainting after small rust repair jobs with bondo I would think. Much cheaper than taking it to a shop either way....
I've used one of those air bushes for nearly 8 years. Get rid of the spanner and only tighten the nozzel with your fingers. As it is way too easy to shear off with the spanner.
@@Herringomann I removed the sheared off portion with a needle point file, which gripped the inside or the sheared bore and enabled it to be unscrewed.
Can't really guide you on this... Chrome look is hard to achieve even with professional airbrushes... But if you go with it, Alclad black primmer + chrome color is your best bet.
I hope you have a video disassemble and cleaning And how to clean the filter,, I used it spray luster dust on cake and I don't know how to clean it, I soaked it in alcohol It didn't remove the luster dust
I just started using this airbrush today based on your review. One issue I'm having is it seems like the paint is coming out really slow. Like, it takes a while just to get full coverage on a single piece of my gunpla kit. I thought it was my paint being too thick, but I thinned it further and it showed signs of being too thin (webbing, spatter). Is there something I'm missing or is this expected for this quality of equipment?
Tbh I got it because it's so cheap that even if I will only use it to get the feel for airbrushing I won't need to be mad for throwing it away ... And mine came with a water trap and everything and those parts will be useable eben if I change the compressor later on :)
Great video. Thanks. I'm starting this hobby also and bought the airbrush in the video. My worst fear is the paint "liquibility"... Any tips? Thank you.
It's better to make paint too thin at first spray attempt. Cause you can always add a bit more paint till it be perfect mix. If you make paint too thick at first spray, you will clog it... Disassembly and cleaning is the last thing you want to do right after purchase of first airbrush :)
if i want to go one step further ..... what should i go for? any airbrush that you could recommend, just a bit more powerful? thanks. and thanks for this video XD
So I'm just getting into modle cars properly and I brought this exact same one the other day I'm just wondering if you need to clean it when you use different colour paints bc it will block the jets would I have to clean it with thinners
You have to flush it with thinner after every new color. Also if you use different types of paint ex. enamel and acrylics - you must perform deep clean with airbrush cleaner in order to avoid different chemicals mixing together.
Only you know the answer:) If you are thinkerer and don't expect everything just to work magically by itself this kit will do the job. But first you must to learn how to use it correctly:)
How does your white come out so well? I use Vallejo model air white and it comes out in stupid spits and clumps and tiny specks and spots. I also use the exact same airbrush and compressor lol
I guess you are not thinning paint enough ? Or maybe your airbrush is not serviced correctly? Check your nozzle setup and air cap, make sure there is no air gap. Use maximum pressure. Let me know if this kind of video would be useful (how to properly use this kind of mini setup/ maintain airbrush) :)
@@StaticModel no no actually I think it is way too thinned. I tried to add it to a green for highlights and it actually thins the green paint. My friend said it may be due to a certain ingredient was taken out, something to do with lead and poison? idk. I always have maximum pressure at all times, airbrush works fine on all other paints. this happens to my friend too that uses tamiya white. Its very odd. I would like a troubleshooter video on this airbrush, as other odd occurrences do happen sometimes. Thanks
@@StaticModel I had a similar problem when I used this same airbrush for the first time, I dismantled the airbrush and rebuilt it and it was fine. I did notice a few parts had a bit of manufacturing residue which was just wiped with a dry cloth, once rebuilt it painted perfectly. And really not as noisy as it seems! I love mine!
Hi, I got it from the store I no longer recommend, just use amazon instead.. Also it will work for your tasks, but it won't be very simple and easy. Stay tuned for new airbrush episode coming soon!
I can safely tell you it works acrylics like a dream. Most notable is Tamiya with my experience. I've heard others throw gaia notes(enamel) in and it works wonderfully for them.
I'm back on this video lol. I just got the new version of this airbrush kit, the one with the auto-off feature. It's a nice addition, not too noisy now lol. Just had a problem as I was cleaning the airbrush (I clogged it 😂) the nozzle o-ring disintegrated as I was screwing it back. Had to buy multiple replacements now just to be sure 😂. Also for the new auto-off feature, it only automatically shuts off if the pressure valve is set to high. When set to low, the compressor runs continuously. Used it for an hour, spray testing outdoors, it warmed up but not too warm. So IMO it would last 2hours max in a session before it really heats up.
@@mateuszpytka1058 I bought this locally so I can't give you a link to a specific one, sorry. Just put "airbrush kit" on Amazon and many will pop up, different brands but I'd bet they're all the same. Do read the description and reviews to see if it has the auto off feature, because from where I bought mine it didn't say anything about it, so it was a surprise.
@@mosheep Thanks! I found one with auto off, however it said that this feature works only on minimum setting. Could you confirm that? Anyway, much appreciated. :)
If you are building lots of them airbrush kit is helpful, but you can achieve great results only with paintbrush. If you think about high fidelity color blending and shading you will need airbrush a tier higher...
@@DrDreuhh i use coresponding thinners, usually same brand as paint. I believe nail artists use special inks for nails that are pre thinned. Base color comes with more traditional nail polish but than all the intriguing details and transitions are made with thin inks and stencils:)
I have the exact same model. Brought it last year, and was going to use it now for the first time. I got it to do alternative reborn dolls. I noticed that in my set I don't have the moisture trap.... is it important?! Can my machine work without? I'm once again blocked from finishing a doll. If it's a necessary component to the machine, where can I find it? Anyone who can help, is my life saver.
Moisture trap prevents condensed water from getting into your airbrush ant later into your paint. For example when you paint, big blob of water coming out from air hose can cause paint spit/splatter... Some people use transparent air hoses to monitor moisture build up in air channel. Also moisture traps are commonly available on ebay, alliexpress, amazon ect...
Thank you for making this informative video sir, I bought the exact same airbrush and compressor set from amazon. After using the airbrush for some time, it stopped working. After seeing many online guides and doing a complete deep cleaning, I finally got it working again but it stopped again after 30 second. Now the airbrush sometime works for one minute but the next minute it stops. Do you have any idea as to why this could be happening. Thank You
It is important to understand what part of system fails. Is it airbrush or compressor? See if compressor keeps pumping air without airbrush connected. If it still stops, there is something wrong with compressor itself. If it only stops when airbrush is connected, that means there is a clock in air system or airbrush trigger is faulty.
@@StaticModel The problem is definitely not with the compressor as I have tested it thoroughly. It is most likely with the airbrush. I have not identified a consistent problem but sometimes there are bubbles in the airbrush cup. I have deep cleaned the airbrush, but it is extremely inconstant whether it worked or not
@@thequantumcuber3261 bubbles are usually caused by poor seals at nozzle cap, poor seal also make paint to dry out in awkward areas of airbrush, also "dry tip" issue will occur more often. Maybe your nozzle is split or cracked also, worth checking.
Assuming your question is about the compressor, the manual says it should not be used more than 30mins. Overall, you should use it for some 10 or 20mins, then take a timeout.
It seems you're not thinning down your paints & primers before putting it into the airbrush. That's something you should do. Always thin your paints & primers before airbrushing them. That way the compressor won't have such a hard time.
I intentionally used pre thinned "airbrush friendly" paint that is marketed specifically for use right from the bottle, because that is what beginners usually go for. If you are experienced and willing to play with thinning ratios, it's most likely you also want precise pressure control and another compressor kit.
