Hey heads up: I encountered the 0 byte storage issue with my device before while messing around with a custom rom, the fix should be a factory reset. Hope this helps!
I've had this issue too. Several times with different phones .It took some messing around don't remember a factory reset alone being the solution. Think one of them was a Samsung and odin with a repartiton played a part
@@limpbiskit66I also have a Samsung, the cause of the issue was a feature of the custom ROM formatting the micro SD card to be used as internal storage then removing said micro SD, I think since the phone expected the storage to be on the SD which wasn't inserted it didn't know what to do. A factory reset from the recovery mode fixed it for me, but your experience could vary. It could absolutely be to do with partitioning, but overall it's an issue I can't find very much about other than my own experience with it and how I fixed it.
Yep, it just needs the data partition formatted. I kinda skipped over that step while installing lineageos to my phone and it showed I had more than 100gb free but trying to install anything from app store it gave me insufficient storage errors.
i've had an old samsung galaxy note(gt -n7000) with similar problem but it reported that there is about 33 GB of data on a 16 GB storage i needed to re flash it and it's working fine since
experienced that on my huawei (android 5.1) phone in 2017, without custom rom, just stuck on 0kb free. (it just happens sometimes when you run ot of memory, it gets completely stuck) yeah factory reset (through the settings, not the data partition wipe) solves this
Windows phone was ahead of its time, and definitely much more refined than many android skins back then. It does look dated now, but it had a lot of potential. It was my first experience with a mobile operating system, and I got a Samsung Galaxy S3 later on, which was somewhat of a step down in user interface design, but it had the benefit of using Android and having many more apps available.
Literally true! Had Lumia 625 from 2014 to 2017 and it was so smooth and nice working phone for it's price! Sadly support was cutted off since 2016 as it was Win 8/8.1 phone :/
I like this format Hugh - take a punt buying stuff and hopefully make a profit! Much like I've been doing for 20+ years, but with tech instead of junk in people's sheds! At least two of us are keeping stuff out of landfill!👌👍😃
How absolutely gorgeous is the HTC 8X... And the UI was so modern and flowy. I've always wanted a Windows Phone device, idk why, but never got around buying one at their prime. The UI clearly passed the test of time. I should probably get a Lumia 1020 and/or a 950 XL. Oh, and the Red Magic is overclockable from factory. It's the only phone with the SD888 that runs at a higher frequency than the rest.
You got lucky with the Samsung. Some Android phones brands now come with credential persistence even after reset (to prevent data theft by extracting the nand, not unlike iDevices) and Samsung is usually extra iffy with this due to Knox. I was 100% expecting it not to clear the pin after factory reset but maybe the option for this was not enabled in settings by the previous owner.
Not to mention that in the latest security patch (August 2023) nothing you do can bypass the phone's FRP lock. Tried bypassing a Samsung Galaxy A32 5G for 4 days straight, using almost a hundred tools I found on the internet, the only tools that were actually very close to bypassing it were SamFw and another tool (Android Utility?) that I can't recall its name. But then Android hides the USB debug message, intentionally breaks the package manager so APKs can't be loaded and when you try using the talkback method, it starts yelling "Stop" at you. The closest I got was with browser exploits and entering my own Samsung account to download a temporary launcher, but then all APKs I try loading wouldn't install and when you reboot the phone it's back at the Hello screen.
@@RealEpikCartfrenYTI've had good luck with SamFirm_A.I.O_v3.3 to open the webbrowser and follow instructions from a RU-vid video from there. But it was an old device so that helps a lot.
@@RealEpikCartfrenYT But why not just boot it into download mode and revert it to an older FW? You don't need ADB while in Download Mode, only ODIN. Have you tried that way?
After the One M7, its failing/overheating/dying camera and them refusing to fix my in-warranty phone, I'm kinda glad they went into irrelevancy. Was nice while it worked though, and I'll always admire the Desire Z (last one with a physical keyboard)
I learned so much from your channel that I started doing repairs and upgrades to donated computers and phones and refurbish them for a local nonprofit that provides computers and internet for low income families, schools and other nonprofit organizations in the Brevard NC area. Thanks for the inspiration. Terry at Brevard Nerd Services
As an Xperia 1 mk ii user, please fix that Xperia 10 iii. Just like you Sony smartphone is no longer around in my country, had to import one yourself. Would love to see a Sony repair video on your chanel again.... it's been a while since that Xperia Z video
If only phone lot in indonesia were this generous. I remember buying a phone lot like this for around 80bucks for 3 phones. and maaan, two of em were straight up coming from jurrasic period, like gingerbread androids from 2005. The only one that i can use is this galaxy j5 pro which im curently using it only need a new battery. And i can tell you, investing money on phone lot is never gonna be a wise decisions. Love your contents tho
hey hugh, do u happen to have the sony xperia anymore? i just seen your youtube video i think that is the phone you said it isn't sold in australia. just realized your contact is currently closed.
It pains me greatly to hear your dislike of Windows Phone OS. It is far and away the best phone OS ever made. Google and Apple haven't been able to design anything better in over a decade.
Its a linux style of plain UI Prob for those dudes that lived by win98 to win7 it hurts a lot But for old seniors its a nice ui Less tinkering, as if an old ios wih dark mode and lite mode skin built in
Man If only you're near,Id prolly Bought that Xperia Mark III along with the HTC 8X. Been hoping for an Xperia Device here in my place eversince their re-run back in 2019 but We barely have any luck if Sony would even sell it here or anywhere Globally
Xperia 10 III is pretty much at the end of its software support. It's not getting Android 14, and there is no guarantee of getting a security patch any newer than the current one, from July 2023. It's a real shame from Sony, because the phone itself is alright if you can find it cheap.
@@purpleneons meh,I dont really care about Software Updates unless its already like 8yrs Behind the Current Software Patches,as long as it is usable in terms of Normal Usage such as Basic Phone Calls,Camera & is Able to play youtube or encode 24bit FLAC with no issues, then Im practically fine with it. Heck Im still using an LG G7 to this day alongside with my Redmi Note 11 as a Back up phone. Still works as a charm to this day
First of all, i think we definitely need a collab w/ Wade or, at least, James at some point. Second, Windows Phone was pretty nice with pretty fast and simple UI, even on a low-end hardware. Another question: didn't Samsung ask for a Google account after hard reset? Weird.
As someone who used multiple Windows Mobile and Windows Phone devices (my last one was Lumia 635), I quite like them. Plus coding for both was way easier for me since I can use the languages I already know.
I was looking for a Windows Phone, but was weary because of the possible complications from old hardware. Thing is, Windows Phone is like a cult classic which, boxed, can go for sometimes as high as the original price, 10 years later. This phone in a fairly good condition is certainly a find, and at $40 is like a steal
I wouldn’t get the HTC though. Lumia phones are where it’s at for the platform since Nokia was working directly with Microsoft. The cameras for the time were top shelf and windows/nokia was doing dark mode and oled long before everyone else but Samsung.
That a23 was 100% frp email locked because of the reset. I don't think it's cool for you to skip over that step. It gives people the wrong idea about this business
I am really looking forward to the repair of all these phones whenever you are ready. I have been one of your favourite subscribers for a long while now. If it is possible to remove the windows software and replace it with android, in the phone that came with Windows, that could increase it's sale value. 😊
Love this format, it's the most enjoyable and it's nice to see how you're saving so many tech products that other people would let go to waste. Do you have any ideas on what to do with an older android phone or tablet? Recycle, repurpose (how/for what?). Thx❤ Thanks
Thanks to people like you, technology that would be ewaste is recycled and repurposed for futher use. Thanks to your inspirational videos, I replaced the battery in my OnePlus 8 using iFixit and it cost me around $25 total and thanks to the battery bloating, the back panel was already half off the phone. I carefully worked the adhesive to removed the rest and replaced the battery. As I bought a new OnePlus 8 pro to replace this phone to use as my daily phone, I now have a backup phone to use should I need to. The problem with having a phone that becomes dangerous to use is that one doesn't have an alternative. Now I do. All I have to do is to swap the sim card and I can go on with my life. Repair is very important and thankfully I bought a several year old phone (top of the line) at a serious discount over its original cost. You are a true inspiration and thanks for what you do!
I'm wondering what you might do if you come across a blacklisted phone. It makes the phone almost entirely useless, but you might not even know it until after someone buys the phone from you and they want to return it because it is barred from network use.
Was that HTC running Windows 8 with tiles? I have one because you know, you have to have one of everything. Mines a green Nokia. No, not worth adding to the total. But interesting as a novelty. Like an Amazon Fire phone.
That was a really impressive phone lot for the price - to be honest I would happily buy that Red Magic gaming smartphone once restored, it looks the part and even has a headphone jack still. despite not really gaming on a mobile, that would be one I'd love to have.
I remember someone having that htc windows phone in my school like 10 years ago, or a similar one with colored chunky borders. It was always weird to look at the menu screen and not see any recognizable app icons
I had one of those HTC Windows Phones from a recycling lot a couple years back. Windows Phone was ahead of its time and the OS was so fun and fresh when it came out too bad app development wasn’t very common for Windows
I actually dont repair screens when it have small crack. Actually, more over, i buy a previous gen with a first crack. Usally keep same platform for 3-5 years, can go thru few screens and one motherboard in this time.
I say it time and time again. The magic three R`s re-use, repair and recycle. It costs a lot less energy to re-use or to repair (talking about carbon emissions). Big tech company's always talk about recycling, because they want to greenwash the fact that you just have to buy a new phone.
windows phones were pretty good for the time, except for the marketplace which is what killed them. you can watch youtube on a phone with 512 megs of ram without any hickups lol
How do you even get phones sent to you? Whenever I go to the post office or even a courier I get told that they are not allowed to accept anything with a lithium battery in it.
I wonder how Hugh has not encountered an android phone where he resets it from recovery and it FRP locks. I have watched many videos of his and they all just allow him to reset from recovery and setup like normal.
Didn't know HTC made Microsoft phones I know it was Nokia Lumia before it went to Microsoft Lumia I had the Lumia 535 back in day it wad a pretty janky thing to use
That phone hugh had is the HTC 8X. I owned one, and have some in a bin to repair. Gorgeous phone back in the day and was launch alongside the Lumia 800. Hard as F to repair when busted up.
that HTC 8X put a smile on my face. one of my fav device. back when android or ios was nowhere near of feeling fast, windows phone ran like butter. the ui tbh is subjective, but i find it rather clean and non distracting. not bloated as most android phones at that time and not as suffocating as ios used to be. if only it got the support it deserves
Windows phone was kind of funny, in some ways they were ahead of time in some there were questionable decisions made, but what kind of sealed the deal on it ultimately failing was Microsoft being too late to the market. Not that uncommon issue for Microsoft. Though one thing I liked about Windows phone is how it was universal and Microsoft ensured updates, so none of that cutting updates crap from Android, that was even more common back then. But I would actually prefer having more competition in mobile, other than Andorid vs iOS, like way too many people like one or the other, but I just use Android because its flaws are easier to live with. And spying doesn't really feel any worse than Google, I mean Chrome calls home too. Also kind of shame Nokia so hard insisted on Symbian instead of taking Android temporarily while they tell to guys developing Symbian to go nuts with making new overhauled version that catches up. :-D And only Apple wouldn't be tracking you, because they would be iTracking you. :-D
I miss watching these phone lot videos!!! Takes me back to the times where you usually uploads stuff like these really frequent! Nice video again, Hugh!
Reminds me of that one guy who installed Tiny 11 on a windows phone. Might make for a fun project my guy. Also I'm impressed that gaming phone still works. That took a huge beating.
It’s good that you can reset some of these phones…….I had (for nostalgia) my iPhone 4 which I bought in 2011 I think? Somehow recently it got confused with an Apple ID and of course I stupidly reset it locking myself out of the phone. Tried all my Apple ID’s including the original one it was setup with but no it says it cannot be unlocked with this ID. So I’ve lost my first iPhone to Apples stupid activation lock - it’s impossible to prove to them you own the phone without the original receipt (who has this after a decade??) so my Apple request was denied on the basis of not enough information.
Im sorry but how was the Samsung A23 not google locked? It had a password on it? I woulda been curious to see what method you would have used to bypass it.
Its odd how you have to connect the samsung to a pc to reset it like that I was able to do that to my a32 5g without being connected to a pc, though it did ask for my email and i am located in canada
(4:44) I believe the original owner may have purchased it from a third-party seller as a grey import from Singapore or purchased it while there. Singapore and Japan are the only countries I can think of where Sony Xperia phones are officially sold, though.
What an interesting phone lot! It's always a bit of a gamble, but you seem to have scored some great deals. Looking forward to seeing more tech lot videos from you. Keep up the great work Hugh!
I wish windows phone made its way in the market - it sucks having only 2 options. If I had a phone which could pair seamlessly with my windows PC, it'd be amazing.
Hi there! A couple of weeks ago, I found in the street a Motorola Moto E5 . No one called searching for it, and I waited a considerable amount of time, so imma repair it and give it to someone who needs it. I was trying to put it back to work and, since I don't know the path password, I tried to do a factory reset. But, once I started the phone after the reset, the system asks me to log in with a Google account which already was logged in the phone. Of course i can not log in with any existing account. Is there a way to jump that security barrier? I appreciate Google's anti-theft barriers, but in this case it would turn a still usable phone into garbage. I APPRECIATE IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME OR LINK ME TO A TUTORIAL FOR THAT. BLESSINGS!
For everyone looking at this clip and thinking that is so easy to make money out of this : it's not. I work for like 4 years in this kind of business, so I have some idea of what I'm talking about. 1. That HTC is literally garbage. Only a monkey with a lobotomy would pay 25 dollars for it. Such phones I buy with 0.29 Euros and then give them to recycling. I do that as a "free service" to people who want to recycle and to encourage them to give the old stuff away. It's just a symbolic thing. 2. That Vodafone Phone- Same thing. 3. For the Redmagic phone - Small companies like Nubia, Zte, Nothing etc don't have repair programs like samsung for example and they usually don't sell parts. They work with some external repair shops, and they deliver the replacement parts only to them. You can't buy them from nowhere. You can find only some pulled refurbished parts if you're lucky. Usually those are still too expensive, so repairing such phone is pretty much unrealistic most of the time. 4. Sony phone - 60 usd with a cracked screen? - Sure, good luck with that. In my opinion this video is made just for entertainment and has no real value. I can see that this guy has a shop and sells the stuff there. I hope no one from you buys this crap just because he's a youtuber, because that would be stupid.
I liked the windows phone os a lot. Much better than Android of the day. It was actually unique and optimized really well for both low end and high end hardware. Lack of support was the only major downside. It’s a shame it failed as we could really use a different option other than iOS and bloated iOS (Android).
Good luck getting that sort of resale value for that Red Magic 6 device. Those ZTE Nubia phones have next to zero software longevity. They launch so many of them that they are pretty well vaporware the week after you purchase them.
Hey this might be off topic but I have a Poco F3 with a broken screen and i have an extra working screen from my Poco X3, i know they have different connector/pins but is it possible to swap the connector by soldering them ?
Hugh! I love your videos but I have a big question I'm super into phone repair and was wondering how you actually reset the phones with passcodes on them? You showed it in the video but that method doesn't work as when you try and set it up it asks for the previous pin. I'd love your help as this would save SO MANY of my old phones from the garbage
