This revelation towards affordability would be the step I need to try this. Seriously cool robot.

Hay this is just an idea but you should put in modes that disable a leg and still kinda walks with the remaining legs like if you only had one leg it would drag the other 5 legs along but it's just an idea

A lower cost version would be very welcome! It looks like the middle servo is doing most of the work, maybe only that one needs to be a high-torque servo and the rest can be a smaller 996 and you could keep all of the original dimensions...?
@MakeYourPet
@MakeYourPet Год назад
Yes replacing the femur servo will improve things a bit. but it definitely won't have the same performance of the higher torque servos. So there will be limitations still for sure.

3D-printing the bushings is a good solution, but it is still safer to install cheap flanged bearings like f623zz
@MakeYourPet
@MakeYourPet Год назад
Some of the members of the Discord server tried bearings, but cheaper ones have some small play and unfortunately they still experience servo overshoot.

Super cool, I like your videos. Hope one day I will be able to build big boy "property keeper" with a lot of sensors, decent camera to take pictures of animals, streaming video..... I like you idea to use phone, a lot of usefull stuff there for cheap. Do you think, its good idea to pair phone and micropython (python), for me its just to combine work and hobby. Thanks a lot man.
@MakeYourPet
@MakeYourPet Год назад
You can use micropython if you like and it should work. Start with whatever you are familiar with.

Did you check that the servos actually have all metal gears inside? Some vendors on AliExpress cheap out and only have the output gear metal so it looks right but the inside gears are all plastic. I got a very bad one once, if you turned the output manually rather than back drive it just sheared off all the plastic teeth and it was advertised as having all metal gears. I hope you managed to find decent ones and checked the quality and performance of the one you bought before buying all of them.
@MakeYourPet
@MakeYourPet Год назад
Good point. So far the servos are ok and don't show any sign of gear wear, but I didn't check the inside. Honestly at this price range I can live with a few non metal gears...

Is it possible to just use a Raspberry Pi Pico instead of the Servo2040 as they have the same microcontroller?
@MakeYourPet
@MakeYourPet Год назад
Yes you can. If you implement the same protocol that we used with the Servo2040, you can use a RPI with the phone. If you are interested in the details, reach out in the Discord server.

i spent an hour switching parts around but the screw holes on the tibia are on the wrong side for easy construction. Unless there is a file on the github repository I am missing I can get the layout to work without drilling holes manually.
@MakeYourPet
@MakeYourPet 9 месяцев назад
You should not need to drill any holes manually. Note that tibia and some other parts are mirrored for the left and right sides. For some of the parts only one side is provided on github, since you can easily mirror the part in your slicer application.

The $150 price tag is assuming you have a 3d printer and an old phone to use with it. You can get an Ender 3 for under $200 which is what I have and is more than enough for a project like this, and you get to keep the printer for your future projects.
