Spot on that man, learnt loads! When I broke my 12' float rod I used part of a alloy knitting needle, a small length of steel golf club shaft and fiberglass, looks and works great. A sense of achievement and used regularly.

Only just found this “Excellent” video. Making what we imagined was a difficult job very manageable.

Great job, and inspiration to all of us. Simplified way to do a complex repair at home. 👍👏👏

Very good tutorial! Following your side puller video I have done six of my top kits and I have also repaired a section of my whip that was cracked. In order to avoid having a step at the end of the carbon wrap you should cut the piece of carbon cloth tapered by about 10mm/half inch from one end to the other basically in the shape of a trapeze. You start the wrap with the wider end of the trapeze and finish with the smaller-this will leave a 5mm/quarter inch gap either side between first and second wrap and will taper off nicely once cured.

Brilliant Idea love it👍, I will try this on future repairs👍

It's much better to slide the thin section into the thick one after coating the broken end of the thin section with resin, you'll only shorten the pole by a negligible amount. You can then put a layer of carbon cloth over the repair. This way you get a perfectly round and much stronger repair.

I like this idea👍

For small cracks and some breaks use superglue and bicarbonate of soda coat a couple of times sand smooth it's as strong as concrete

Hello I have a question, what carbon mat do you use? 12k 200gsm or maybe another one? Regards, Rafał

Thanks for this video 👍🏻I have a question as I have a number 3 section that has snapped. It looks like it have been squashed so has a section of around 4 inches long. Do I cut the damaged section out and try and join them or do I leave the damaged bit whilst joining the best I can and wrap the carbon around the lot? What do you think? Ty Gavin

If it snapped into 2 pieces, then can be best to telescope it or get a professional repair. If its still in one piece then just wrap it😊👍

Shouldn't you have placed an inner tube sleve for support ?

Would I be able to repair a few smaller cracks with duct tape?

I wouldn't advise it

I used a partial inflated party ballon for mine ( the ones you can make animals out of) Joined the collapsed sections together Inflated to hold it gentle In place Then joined up and wrapped in the carbon 👍

How has the repair held up. I need to do a split in my pole but I want to be sure that the DIY kit will be as good as a pro repair.
@AverageAngler
@AverageAngler 2 года назад
Mine haven't let down😊👍. You should get a pro repair for £30, so of its just one section could be easier to get it done by pro, although waiting lists are long.

Is it the same principle with the end male part of the pole I’ve cracked my 4th section. Or would you suggest just using the resin
@AverageAngler
@AverageAngler 3 года назад
End male part would be difficult to repair using this technique, I would speak to a professional. If you wrap the male part it won't fit the female part☹. If it's only a few millimetres then you can cut back the section but not advisable if it's more than 10mm I would say.

Great video ,will use this if I get a break BUT wish he would not learn viewers to run bare hands up and down the broken sections..if there is one thin slither of loose carbon fibre, it will go straight into your hand..not a nice experience

🤣😂🤣true, can be a bit sharp.

Oops! Weren't you supposed to heat the tape so it would shrink onto the repair?
@AverageAngler
@AverageAngler Год назад
No the repair kit I used doesn't use the heat shrink tape, this is a simpler way to.do.it.🙂👍This tape doesn't shrink when heated🙂. Tha ks for watching.
@ricobass0253

@@AverageAngler Ok, fair dues. In which case I don't see the point of special tape. Why not use good old plain electrical tape - cheap as chips and very stretchy too, so plenty of squeeze. It does come off easily too - I have used it on some custom bike frame lugs
@AverageAngler
@AverageAngler Год назад
@@ricobass0253 never tried it with insulation tape? I can't recommend it as I've not tried it? Give it a go let me know how you got on😊👍.I love a shortcut😊😊
