Taking a look at 3 different thermal fan controllers from Aliexpress, testing to see if they work, and lt talk about my recommendations.

I have a few of the 3rd type shown, and they work great ... once it's set.

A few things regarding the ZC930/HW-585 board; Only Fan1 is controller by the temp probe. Fan 2 and Fan3 are controlled via the two potmeters. Your Beep did not work, bacause you have to power down and power up again when you make a dip switch change. 😉 Thanks for this vid! 👍

0:55 When they write PWM then they mean that the pulse the fan supply voltages. That was normal way to do it before the 4-pin fans was a thing. The "screw points" are called potentiometers.

PWM stands for Puls-With Modulation, you need the 4-th pin to handle that, Else it just runs on DC adjusting the fans rpm by raising or loweing the voltage. But in theory, it could pulse the voltage as well, just assumed it is Direct Current. Thanks for the correction. I just could not find the right word, which is quite different from my local language.

I /do/ know what *pulse-*width-modulation is. I've been working with electronics all my life. PWM fan speed regulation on old mainboards/electronics does /not/ regulate the voltage. It pulses the supply voltage. Seen over time it's the same as regulating the voltage, but if you look at the signal with an oscilloscope you will see it switching between full supply voltage and 0 volts. Regulating the voltage is lossy (dissipates heat) and is not something you want to do. My local language is also Danish :)@@whcvip

@@zaprodk wrong. show me an "old" motherboard that has a pwm fan connection. i CAN show you my bondwell PX-XT at 4.75Mhz that does voltage regulation.. " working with electronics all my life" guess not does not go for "Computers" "the end"

@ronny, if it regulates (analogically) voltage it is NOT PWM, if it's PWM it "regulates" average voltage by applying max VCC for only a fraction of the time.

@0:43 The fan speed is controlled by PWM signal, so yes, it's a PWM controller!

Hello and thanks for the video! I am building an eGPU enclosure and I am searching for a temperature PWM fan controller like these, however for power, I only have SATA or IDE (molex) power cables from the PSU, since I dont have a motherboard. I have tried searching for a 12v cables to SATA or IDE connector adapter, but I can't find anywhere. Do you have any advice? Is it possible to DIY this somehow? I have no knowledge of electronics and soldering, but I have built multiple computers. Thanks again :)
