All you need is a cheap USB HDMI capture card and CamDesk (software available on my site) and you can move your front panel or waterfall anywhere you like on your screen. Cool bananas..! / @dxcommanderhq
I have been down this road with a TS-990 and a FTDX101MP and a FTDX10. You can use the cheap HDMI to USB capture card on the Yaesu's. That works great. Unfortunately the TS-990 requires the very expensive cards because the Kenwood outputs some very unusual video. The cheap ones will NOT work with the TS-990. 73
Cal I am using a Roland capture device on my FTDX101MP They also have the software on there web site I got the HDMI TO DVID cable to the Roland. Roland provides the cable to the computer. I showed a picture to yeasu tech and all they could say How. By the way the Roland can also have a camera hooked to it to do the same thing. Love your videos 73 Bruce W4HAM
Using the wrong DVI to HDMI adapter on some radios can damage the radio. For example I have had to repair several FTDX-10's that either had their DVI fuse blown or the DVI IC was bad. Some adapters draw power from the DVI connector on the radio and if it draws to much, poof. Why don't they just stick a HDMI jack on the radio, cost. Annual licensing for HDMI is $10,000 a year for over 10,000 units and $5,000 per year plus $1 per unit for under 10,000 units. There is also a couple cent royalty fee per unit.
I use a 4K capture device for the output of my FT-Dx101mp to my system to pull into my OSB. My resolution is 600x800 for the OBS feed. The capture device I use has a HDMI out so I can put it into a monitor while capturing... fun stuff none the less... thanks Callum!
Very cool. I have a Yaesu FTdx 1200 and unfortunately doesn't have a video output. Definitely one of the requirements on my next radio 73, Jeremy KF4CHW
Another way you can do it is to use an HDMI to MPEG4 H.264/H.265 encoder. This is a stand alone box that you plug your audio/video from your radio to, and then it will generate a stream that you can view and listen to using any web browser on that network. I use a DVI to HDMI adapter (my FTdx-101MP only has DVI out, because they are too cheap to pay a $30 license fee on a $5200 radio) to the H.264 Encoder, then I can use any computer or even a tablet or smart phone that connects to my network to view it ... wired on even using WiFi.
I wonder if this will work for the Yaesu ftdx-10 or not? They have a serious issue of burning out if you don't use the right thing on their dvi connector. Would've solved all the problems they have had they used hdmi.
But I thought DVI and HDMI were effectively the same thing - because you can just buy a cable changer..? Oh well. SOunds like a Yaesu issue rather than the connector.
Hey Cal, or other users, how in the HECK do you get the SOURCE window to appear? I can get the Preferences, I can move the black boxes around, I can do F1 which brings up the Red Dot CamDesk screen, but NO Source selector.
If you can display your screen on Zoom, Skype etc but not Camdesk, then maybe you have some hardware limitations. Perhaps try some alternatives.. I've just used my favorite search engine and found WebcamViewer, Webcam Viewer V3.5, WebcamOnDesktop. Last one looks up to date. Free-floating job like Camdesk.
@@DXCommanderHQ - if you pick the IF and use SDR software, then not only would you get yet another parallel receiver, you would also be able to operate the radio via the sdr software (obviously cat connection required) (click on the signal in waterfall and such) - but if all you want to do is stream the display, then your solution is very nice indeed. 73, timo (oh8xat)
@@HowToHam_Tom HDMI capture card comes up as a source in OBS so you can skip the third-party software. If you don't wish to use old/unsupported software (or you use a different OS) and you want this in a standalone window, you can also use something like VLC player to show the video from the capture card.
its also needlessly complex for what he is trying to do. We oldlings use a saying that goes: "you dont have to turn everything into a science" ;) So, i asked my AI shellscript to put into words what i mean - the fact i had to limit the AI to 20 points should illustrate nicely why camdesk is to be preferred when all you wanna do is display your bloody radio screen...;) "ai ! list the 20 main features of the software called OBS and lead with installation requirements and prerequisites" "Answer: Installation Requirements and Prerequisites: 1.
