I wouldn’t use a bare chain on my Firearms !but use a chain coated with rubber or plastic - that way it will not scratch the coating. 👍🏻 Thanks for the tips!

I was able to drill a hole on the inside portion of my trunk lid, and through the trunk tub, put bolts in them and attached a few links of chain to each. I measured it so that when I open the trunk, it will open just barely enough get my hands in to unlock the links of chain. It`s a hassle but gives me a little peace of mind. It`s a shame we can`t just leave things unlocked anymore.

Those little lock boxes are great from my experience. I bolted one to the transmission "hump" of my truck. Then I bolted a hinge to a center console organizer from walmart with some of the bottom cut out to allow the box to fit under. Then I pop riveted a velcro strip to both sides of the organzier to help keep that from moving further while driving. Out of sight, out of mind. It is quick to get into. but does not look out of place. The lock box however is in a more convenient spot than under a seat. I also keep a left handed Blackhawk holster bolted to the side of the hump for when I am driving.

I installed car electronics/security for over 10yrs...i can tell u with full confidence the best thing for a jeep or any soft top car is a proximity sensor attached to a basic alarm or factory one. If it isnt installed right they can become a pain because of false alarms due to anything from rain to a cat jumping on ur hood. however if its done right all that shouldnt be a problem.

My only problem is a lot of the smash and grabbers now carry a small pair of side cutters and they could easily cut any of these cable locks. Bolt cutters require some room to work so keeping a box locked in a tight spot like under a seat will help. I do my best to not leave any firearms in my vehicle but I have a son and in the future it will be inevitable with school functions. I plan on getting a small safe I can bolt down.

I especially enjoyed watching your bug out night, but I would encourage your group to start conducting physical training together in order to form a tighter unit as well as get an idea of how much gear they can carry. Just my opinion as I've seen all this gear and as the pack gets heavier a lot of important items get drop behind. Saw this in several countries with displaced populations.

I bought a cheap lockable handgun box for my car and also replaced the stock 1/8” supplied cable with a thicker 3/16” cable to wrap around my seat frame. In addition, I don’t rely on the cheap lock on the gun box, I drilled a 3/16” hole completely through the gun safe and also installed a heavy duty padlock so a thief can’t pry the box open in the car. The padlock is also attached by chain to the seat frame.

True, anyone can get into anything if they have the time and the equipment. So many burglaries are crimes of opportunity. The temptation of seeing something lying loose in a vehicle is the cause of 70% of vehicle burglaries. Taking any viable option is better than scoffing at such things as these and just ignoring the problem. Good video and thanks for pointing out alternatives. I have a couple 50cal cans bolted in my truck with a reinforcement plate underneath the truck floor so the bolts can't just be ripped loose thru the floor by pulling or prying. And the cans have locks. Tools, guns, knives and money are always there when I go back to the truck. There are all kinds from smaller cans (7.62 holds .22/9mm ammo and pistol great) to 50cal to large, rocket cans which can be well secured and hold carbines/shotguns completely out of sight and secure. Consider steel cans and remove items from eye-shot to reduce break ins even more. Keep it up!!
@brettlaw920

Something people may not think about right now is using the steel security bags to secure food in a SHTF scenario. By locking up the food and giving the key to whoever is sleeping, you don't have to worry about the paranoia and division caused by disparity in food distribution.

Great video and at the end you make a Big point about being responsible gun owners and keeping our firearms secure. I had a disagreement with a neighbor because he was giving me shit about my collection of guns and knives and survival gear. All of my gear is in firearm safes and at one point he is telling me that the "only" firearm he has is an old hand me down rifle (Garand or M1, I can't remember). I ask him if it is secured, safe, etc. He says no, its in a closet. I tell him that he will be the problem that he is railing against someday when a thief steals his rifle and uses it in a crime. BTW, in disclosure, I lucked out in the 90's. My house was broken into and I had a rifle (.22 bolt action) and a 20 ga pump shotgun stolen. They were recovered in the next state before they could be used in a crime but it was a wake up call for me.

I can get to your pack very easily and quickly. I just cut a piece of a soda can so it wraps around the hasp with a tab on the bottom. Push down to disengage the ball retainers on the hasp, and I am in and your pack is gone. Try what is called a Chubb Special, or a cyclical lock like they use at storage lockers to be more secure. Talk to a locksmith if you do not believe me.

For those of you that drive an SUV or truck, a large Pelican Case (cube shaped) is the way to go. Yes, it's more expensive, but it provides superior protection. If you ran a chain through the action of an AK and connected the chain to your seat frame, someone will destroy that gun trying to rip it out of there. At the very least they're going to do significant damage to the firearm, and probably your car, too. Yeah, they won't be able to steal it, but you're effectively out the same amount of money. My Pelican is large enough for rifles with a collapsible stock plus several packs. It also allows you to protect additional gear you might have with you when traveling, etc. Just a thought.

Padlocks can be covered with piece of pipe. A slot is cut to the pipe wall, and the shackle of the lock is put through it. Lock is inside the pipe, and it's more difficult to lockpick or drill it. There must be enough space to the key of course. Even plastic pipes will cause some extra work to thieves. Hydraulic hoses could protect the chain from bolt cutters, and are affordable, but some design is needed to cover chain ends and lock shackle.

In my opinion if you are going to be keeping a firearm(s) in the car all the time, don't worry about securing them, just get some cheap ones. Mossberg Maverick, Taurus PT11, etc. I would not think most people have an AR or AK stored in the car always. But to each their own.

I like the pacsafe net but I think it makes it look slightly "attractive" to burglars looking through windows, I suggest combining it with something that I do which is to cover it with the grey or white packaging bags like you get in the mail or even a trash bag, this way it looks cheap and not worth grabbing. But if you put the pacsafe into the said bag, then even if they try to steal it, it will still be secure!

The best bolt cutters will cut about 10mm hardened steel. I think it's usually better to cover the lock and chain with some material than buy rather expensive 13mm shackle locks and chains. They may be cut with grinder anyway. Chain could be covered with hydraulic hose, it takes some other tool than bolt cutters to cut wide sturdy hose before reaching the chain. Padlock and chain ends would be inside a short steel pipe or box, which make access to the lock difficult for tools and lockpicks. Most, maybe all combination locks are too easy to bypass, but a pipe might protect them too.

Jim, what he's showing in the video is called a Pacsafe Travelsafe 5L GII. I have the predecessor to that one called the "Pacsafe Travelsafe 100", which I purchased and used for the past 20 years when they were first introduced. I haven't used it on a daily basis, but always while traveling and to safely store my firearm in a vehicle. It's ever so slightly cumbersome, but the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. I can store my firearm, phone, keys, wallet, passport, small point and shoot camera in it if I'm in a hotel without a safe. When it's not in use it lays flat taking up very little space. Coincidentally, yesterday I just found a used one for sale on the Internet and snatched it up as I love it. The one recommendation that I have is to junk the POS padlock they supply. Replace it with a standard padlock and you have yourself a pretty good portable, temporary safe.

Just a heads up, I have talked to several officers who have worked smash and grabs. They told me one of the most common tools that the criminals who do smash and grabs carry are cable cutters... great products but just be mindful of this. Its best when you pair those with a car alarm and by parking in smart areas like near the door of where you are going or under security cameras
@byronlemay2166
@byronlemay2166 Год назад
None of this stuff is going to slow a guy down with bolt cutters. If you really want it locked in, you need a braided cable nearly as thick as your thumb. Look at Trimax products...they make stuff for trailers and towing. They produce super thick cable...much thicker than those sold by Kryptonite at Home Depot and bike shops. Around a seat post in the cab and run thru the finger trigger and no one is walking away with it.

We were a good 30 mins from his house and didnt want to go back. He said he didnt have anything like a saw or cutters. He then pulled out his leatherman and used the wire cutters. We were through that factory mossberg lock in under 30 seconds.

Any one of those can be defeated in as little as 15 seconds especially the cable backpack crap. You should do a video on hidden compartment ideas with securing points. Any dickhead with an idea of where to look will know. It’s just like robbing a house. You check under the bed, the closet of the master bed, the bathroom for pills, and the garage... hiding things is better than securing it.

Agreed. A small bolt cutter like 18-20 inches could chew through those.

Larry Farris Yeah because awhile back some debacle happened with the Tactical Response channel & it got deleted but they let James Yeager have another channel tho.

change those padlocks to Abloy. If you really want security. Those locks are so easy to break.

I uh... well wouldn't leave a handgun in my car unless I was going to carry it and use it... it seems pointless to keep it locked int he car unloaded and unable to access it? and well that net as stated below looks like a pain in the ass..

+Jacob Juul If you're going into a courthouse, Post Office, Bank etc... you can take a chance but many will not. Courthouse... metal detectors will stop you. I'm not going anywhere that I don't have a gun close, even if only in my car.

The post office I suppose, yea I wouldn't go into a court house and around where I live we can carry in a bank beleive it or not lol but yea post office court house, police station etc.. I would leave in my car I guess that would make it useful, I'll try it and see it's worth a shot

That net looks like a pain in the ass. If a pistol is under the seat like that is it considered concealed?
@SensiblePrepper

+Black Listed For Your Entertainment It depends on the State. Here in SC, if you have a Concealed Carry Permit, you can keep a pistol under the seat.
