Congratulations on the exhibition, it looks fantastic. Thank you for sharing it with us, looking forward to all the videos you have planned for this year.
Thanks Jess for your exhibition video, great info and love seeing more works. Tbh, you are a marvel for all us artist parents out there that struggle to balance some creative time to ourselves amongst family responsibilities. Look forward to the more in depth traditional Italian techniques lessons and art residencies and other info etc 🙏 Happy New Year, especially to the little elf that has lots to say about your his mummies work 😂 😊
Thank you for this lovely comment Jennie! thanks for bearing with me on getting these videos out in the next few weeks we'll be shooting lots so keep an eye out for traditional oil painting techniques
Do you only work in oil? How do you choose your colors? DO you ever work with the figure? I love all your videos, and I want to see everything you offer. I love when you go to other artist studios, Could you talk about how the color is different with different types of mediums, like acrylic vs oil vs soft pastel vs water color? I am pretty much a mixed media artist, and while I love oils, they don't really work for my practice? Some people I have recently found may work with acrylic or mixed media finish their work off with oils (But ou have to be completely ready and confident with oils, because there is no going back once oil is put down) What are your thoughts on that. You seem like a purist
Hi! Thanks for the comment! I love oils for their flexibility, layering the paint while wet and open to change unlike acrylic which dries too fast for me to blend! Like anything in life to do it well you need to practise, more so you feel confident in the alchemy of materials- when I haven't used oils for a while if I have been travelling it always takes me a few sessions to feel comfortable again! I will make a note to discuss different mediums and their effects in more detail- really its unique to every artist, and lifestyle! Watercolours for on the go painting, oils for works of luxury, pastel for paintings that mimic drawing in the use of mark making and acrylic for clarity of decision making with a work!etc etc! Remember it's just from my experience- I think when it comes to oil i like to challenge myself and oil always gives me that!
