Just happened to my mk5 gti was sitting in outside in the winter for a couple days completely fine before but I didn’t even drive 10 mins and the oil pressure light came on
Thanks, this was helpful. I have a 2012 Tiguan with the same engine and lots of repair receipts. I'll verify my oil pressure switch wasn't already changed, then start with dropping the pan.
Thanks Ocie Carlisle I just Scored a 2004 VW Jetta TDI wagon for $800.00...beautiful shape except it has Low Oil Pressure and Low Power. This is where I will start my investigation ! LIKED/SUBSCRIBED !
Just got a Passat and the light came on after like an hour of driving..but I was hauling ass really testing that turbo out! Hope to god this is the issue.
Have a 2006 Passat. Low Oil Pressure light and alarm came on. Car shut off once Or twice. Happened after driving about 45 min straight. Changed the PCV Valve. All lights and alarms shut off and no problems since. Drove it for a Couple hrs straight. No issues.
Great video! Thanks. So if I drop the oil pan and it is filled with junk like the one in your video, do I just need to clean it off there at the opening or does it require continuing to dismantle everything to clean junk/debris that may have gone in past this point? Hope this makes sense. I am working on a 2008 VW EOS by the way.
Yes you are correct! Also remember to check the oil pickup screen and make sure it’s clean as well. Good luck on the job and feel free to ask questions as you go.
3:30. "It can happen with any car." True. It can happen with any car that uses a plastic baffle rather than a metal one. Way too much plastic on these cars.
Audi A4 2.0 ALT Engine Oil Pick Up was replaced and during the test the Low Oil Pressure Light reappeared. We stopped immediately because smoke appeared from the Oil Pressure Sensor. This morning we checked the Oil on the Dipstick and therefore at the right level. The problem is the car does not want to start now. It sounds like a car without a spark on the Plugs. Before we replaced the Pick Up, the top of the car made a lot of noise but after the Oil Pick Up was replaced, the Engine sounded normal. We could not find any Oil leak under the car. Also replaced the Spark Plugs and Oil Pressure Sensor.
Greay Video and going throughy comments you seem extremely knowledgeable. I need some guidence please. I have an oil light that comes on intermittently on my VW golf 7 2.0 Tsi, i.e on start up sometimes and sometimes not ...mainly after doing a short couple of miles the light surely comes on. We have changed both oil sensors , changed the Pcv valve, and changed the oil and oil filter ..as far as doing the timing chain and Cambridge replacement. The light is still on. What have we missed ,what could be the issue ...is there a way to isolate the issue down to the exact failing component? I feel like giving up😢
Does it make the “death rattle” when the light is on? Have you had timing chain guides recently replaced? It could have blockages in the screen of the pickup tube for the oil. It’s not sounding too bad. Just let me know.
Thanks for the video. I have a Mk 5 GTI, oil pump has been replaced, sensor I'm unsure about but will replace that in the next few days. If this turns out to be the problem what part do I search for oil pump pickup?
Rob S I still don’t know the part number for it. You can clean it really good like I did mine or probably find one in the junkyard. Honestly, it’s not much to them. It has a little mesh screen at the end of the tube and a rubber O ring on top of it. If I ever find the actual part number, I will post.
@@ocarlisle Thanks much for the reply sir. I *think* found one on rock auto. I went ahead and ordered it. I've not even looked at mine yet, I figure if this is common screw it just gonna replace the damn thing and not think about it. It was 50 bucks.
Hi I have a vw polo 04, the other day I got the red engine oil light on the dashboard, there’s enough oil in the car. Any idea where to go from here? What could be the problem? Thanks
Why on earth don't they make the oil baffle out of metal instead of plastic to avoid this problem? Are they keeping the production cost down? I'm sure the engineers that designed it are aware.
sand 007 only thing they were concerned about was saving money as usual. They also claim that the oil would work as a “cooling agent” at normal operating conditions.
Hey there, people reading this; I have a 2014 Turbo Jetta that had it’s oil changed from the dealership about 4 months ago and ever since the oil pressure light has been coming on. First they said the oil housing filter was loose then it was the oil pressure switch. They changed the oil pressure switch and still the light is on. Recently topped up the oil too as it was dark and low. The oil is now fine but light comes on sporadically especially cold starts. No leaks found. Any advice?
Vaibhav Chaudhary Hope there is no blockage in the oil lines going to the turbo. It’s also possible that the oil pressure sensor is bad (yes a new one can be bad) or the oil filter is too restrictive. Start small and check your filter for trash and go from there. Then test if possible the oil pressure sensor. And also make sure you have the right amount of oil too.
Hey man, thanks! What year beetle this is? Im mk6 gti. Cleaned out the pressure switch with maf cleaner and a day later got the annoyance back. Bought the new sensor, hopefully thats the problem.
I've driven around 100 miles since the new switch install. No more "Engine off now!" Messages. Also seems to have solved a p0299 boost code. I did clean my intake filter the same day I replaced the switch though.
got a question for y'all, so I got a 08 Audi a3 with the timing chain engine paired with the Dsg. When driving last night going home after 1 hour of cruising the oil pressure warning came on twice both under 2k rpm. When I push the accelerator above 2k rpm the warning goes away. I did replace the sensor/switch 4 months ago. And did do a recent oil change. Any suggestions how I can troubleshoot this? And no metal debris in the oil either when I did the oil change. Any help will be appreciated thanks!
I would think you have worn main bearings is why oil pressure light goes off when bringing up the rpms. Do a oil pressure test. If verified low oil pressure drop the pan. Maybe an issue like this video. If not inspect your mains.
Kind of the same question here. I have a VW EOS. Low oil pressure light has been going on a lot. Took it in and they tested it and the oil pressure was fine, so they put in a new sensor. They suggested doing an oil change as well but I denied because I had just had my oil change last month. The very next day, the warning came on again while driving . My question is, wouldn’t they have seen the debris when they were changing my oil last month or when they were doing the thorough inspection of my car this past week? I plan to take it back in tomorrow, but didn’t know if O should mention this to them?
@@np984 I’ve actually gotten rid of the car. The only way you will see any sort of metal shavings is by dropping the oil pan as the metal settlers at the bottom. Usually when you get a oil pressure light is when the main bearing or connecting rod bearings have gone past factory clearances. So my advice would be is get rid of the car before it gets worse or dish out the cash for a rebuild.
@@TheMandeep125 thanks. I’ve been thinking of trading it in. Was hopeful the new sensor would solve the problem and I wouldn’t have to deal with it anymore. Frustrating. Almost have it paid off!
I have a 99 VW Passat V6 2.8L stick. What's the estimated time to replace or repair the Oil Pickup tube. This would explain why my oil light came on right after my car hit extremely hard after a mechanic was driving off ramp.
Hey man ! I have a volkswagen cc ! Low pressure ligh came on and its realy annoying ! I changed the sensor and it still does that ! Did my oil change + filter , didnt change anything ! Temperature of my car still runs perfectly ! Do you think i can be facing the same issue as the one in the video ? Or should i just change the oil pump ?
fabien james what I would do first is drop the oil pan and look for big particles. If you see gunk, clean off oil pump pickup tube and that should fix it. If you drop the pan and see nothing, yes it could be the oil pump getting weak. Worst case scenario, it could be a spun bearing. Hope this helps.
Nice video 👌 I have an Audi A4 Quattro 2005 2.0t fsi my car doesn’t tell my I have oil pressure when I’m driving it , unless I click the “check “ button, It show oil pressure on orange warning light, I already changed the oil pressure sensor and it still appears
Check for continuity of your oil pressure sensor power wire. Make sure it’s getting voltage through it. Also make sure that it’s (oil pressure sensor) is getting a good ground to the block.
I have a volkwagen tiguan 2012, I usually get the oil low pressure light when I'm driving slow. So it won't come on when I'm driving 50mph or faster. But if I hit traffic that's slower than 40 mph it'll come on everytime. I really don't think it's my sensor if it's being triggered by the same performance. Would you still think it's the oil pick up tube? How do you fix this, is it clearing out the tube or replacing it? Thank you!
When your vehicle is at idle, make sure your rpm’s are no less than 650. If less, it will trigger the oil light to come on. Also, do you hear rattling at idle? Could be oil pump chain worn. If you have none of those symptoms, use an oil flush or a little bit of kerosene 1/2 quart and let it run through your oil system for no longer than ten minutes. Drive it a little while in there and then drain it out. What that does is break down crud that could be in your system. But sounds like you may have one of the fore mentioned problems. Keep me posted.
I have an 2009 VW Tiguan. The oil pressure light started coming on after a recent oil change. Oil pressure switch and sender were replaced on two separate occasions after the oil pressure light kept coming on. The oil pressure light is back on again. Oil is good, no noises coming out of the engine. Just that pesky light. What’s your recommendation?
ITisWHATitIS check the oil filter and make sure the rings are in the proper place. Also, make sure that the screen is not blocked. If all is good, do an engine flush.
that's crazy!!! I think my issue is different though, well hopefully. I got my 50k oil change 2 months ago and I dont drive much but I started to notice oil stains where I park and now the low engine oil pressure light is on. I checked the dip stick and there's barely a drop on the very tip. I have a 2019 Jetta SEL Prem... I called the service dept and they couldn't see where I had an oil change, only a software update. That scares me because now i'm questioning if they ever did the oil change or if they did, maybe they didn't tighten the bolts correctly. I hope theres no serious damage, what would cause a leak after an oil change like this?
It could be burning oil but that would be very rare. Did you add any by chance? Me personally, I would check at intervals at 1200, 2400, 3600, and 4800 miles to see how it’s using oil or how fast it’s leaving the engine. If it’s a turbo, you risk the turbo building crud if it gets low or if it’s burning through the exhaust.
@@ocarlisle Thanks! I am adding 2 quarts in the morning Catrol 0w-20 so I can drive it into the dealership. I'm not taking any chances for another 1k miles. My fear is that they didn't do the change, even now my service records don't show it... this is so weird.
Thank a lot for the info. What do people mean when they say ground you oil pressure switch ? Is that just to test the sensor it self ? I have a 1.9 TDI Jetta 03. My engine was rebuilt and now it's throwing the oil warning. It only does it like 10-15 minutes after fully warmed up and smokes a bit more at that time and not while warming up. If the pickup is clogged, will it trigger the warning any any operating temperature or only when it fully warms up ?
The reason they say “ground it” is because it could have a little corrosion between the block and the sensor. You can also have oil feed line going to the turbo that could be clogged (smoke from tailpipe) and could probably be blown out or run an engine flush. Try doing an engine flush and see if that helps.
@@ocarlisle I replaced the oem feed line with a flexible one. Do you think that a clogged line can cause to loose pressure ? Btw the oil warning does it indicate low or high pressure ? I am affraid of doing an engine flush. They guy who rebuilt my engine use my old head and his old block, but he changed connecting rod and main bearings. Not sure if he measured the clearence.
@@TheAbrunqaj make sure it’s not a flexible one that collapses over a certain temperature because the flow rate will slow down and create a problem. A flush shouldn’t hurt by pouring it into the oil (oil flush). If you drain your oil and see large particles, you need to drop your oil pan.
@@ocarlisle Thanks for your help. I mentioned earlier that the engine was rebuilt. So IMO it should be clean but I can try a flush. Is there a specific brand of engine flush ?
Have an 03 passat had the oil pump changed and new sensor and the oil pressure light came right back on. Does this get changed with that or is it a separate issue?
Good morning, I am looking to purchase a 2002 VW New Beetle that needs the oil pump replaced, I'm a very hands on type of female and feel I can fix things if I do my research well enough. Do you think this is an easy or doable thing for a female? And what advice would you give? Would I need to take the engine out or is it accessible from the bottom of the engine? Thanks in advance...
Good morning. The easiest part is explaining how to do it, but yes you can do it with the right tools. The oil pump requires you to drop the oil pan and remove the drive chain that is turned by the crankshaft. Very straight forward job and remember to replace all of your seals with new ones.
hi mate. have a vw scirocco 2010, oil pressure light has randomly switched on twice in 5 days for about 2 seconds both times driving around a corner about a minute after starting the car. does this sound like a blockage or sensor issue?
@@ocarlisle I topped the oil up right after the first warning came on, drove for about 250 km that day after doing so and no warning light flashed till yesterday, about 2 days later.
@@ocarlisle I suspect it is the sensor. No leaks I can see. I'll bring it to a garage asap anyway for peace of mind and sensor change. Thanks for the messages Ocie, subbed.
I have a 2000 VW Passat 1.8 turbo, had the oil changed and they put a filter on that was too small and my oil pressure light started coming on. Took it somewhere else and had the oil changed and put the correct filter on my car and the light went off for a while but now i have about 1500 miles on this oil change and the oil light blinks when i slow down and when the motor is at running temp, It also taps for about 10 -15 seconds when i first crank it but no smoke. I'm thinking everything is all clogged up from the small filter not doing its job. what do you suggest I do?
Melissa Underwood you could try flushing it with a quart of diesel in the oil. That way any trash that’s in the system will hopefully flush out with the oil when drained.
So what if mine pick up tube is clean and I have changed the oil Pressure sensors and light is coming on when I get below the speed of 40 ???? You know ?? 99 Jetta 2.0 5speed. Thanks
It could. To rule it out, check out the connection to the sensor to make sure it’s not broke. Also when you drain your oil, look for trash in your drain pan.
Hi have an Audi A4 b7 1.9 bke engine did an engine swap same engines started car it started ok went over 2000revs and a red oil pressure light came on anyone any idea what it could be ..thanks
Lorna Mc Redmond make sure that your oil pressure switch is plugged in correctly. Also, check oil filter to make sure it hasn’t broken down. It could be blockage at the bottom of the oil pickup tube for the turbo. Last case scenario, drop the oil pan and look for trash on the pickup. Before you drop the pan try using an engine flush.
hei man! i have and audi a3 1.6 fsi and my oil pressure light starts when i turn right and the care is in any gear ( over ~40 km/h) . i've changed the oil , filter , sensor pressure , even the sensor from the oil pan and i still have this problem.. i checked the oil pressure in the engine and it s very good! any advice? ONLY WHEN I TURN RIGHT! :))
Hi! So I have an 08 Passat 2.0t bought used. I got the oil changed Friday and the engine light & oil pressure warning came on by Sunday. I took it back thinking they did something and they looked it over & said my turbo is going? I googled that and I don’t have any of the signs of the turbo going. The oil warning doesn’t seem to happen at high speeds but when braking or stop and go, turning. I’ve only had the car 6mo but it’s so expensive to fix. Any ideas?
Ocie Carlisle ooooh alright thank you! That was a fast response😂 because I was driving home from school and my oil light turned and and started blinking, oil level was fine, running pretty good so left me wondering, thank you for sharing this!!
Mine dreaded low oil pressure light came on, I checked the oil, it's fine and the engine sounds fine. It comes on randomly and then goes away just as quick as it came. If it were a true problem, wouldn't the error message stay lit up until it's fixed? No smoke, no rattle, no oil burning smell.... Just that damned light. VW eos 2010 Thanks in advance to everyone with advice!
Could be the balance shafts. I've been reading into this too. Got the low pressure warning light twice in the last couple months for the first time. Usually after some spirited driving and then coasting around. Going to do a oil pressure test and take the pan off to check if there's any metal shavings or debris as well as possible melted baffle. Bless our souls it isn't the balance shaft, it's just as bad as a timing chain failure if it goes.
My oil pressure light comes on usually in stop and go traffic. My mechanic replaced the oil pressure sensor switch, crank case vent value and charge pipe to attempt to fix this problem; however, the light still comes on in stop and go traffic. Now, he recommends replacing the rear mail oil seal. Does this sound right?
Hi Ocie....What is the best way to get all of that trash out of your oil ports and passage ways....dump some diesel fuel down from the top of the engine ? Thanks man ! Great video !
Screww Googlle you can use diesel or kerosene. I used both. With the kerosene, I let it run for about 10 minutes at idle. With the diesel, I usually drive it around the block a few times while the engine is warm.
@@ocarlisle yeah my oil pressure light is on and I I’m pretty sure there’s a leak dripping somewhere I have a Audi A4 and I have to change the camshaft sensor this weekend
It could be a short in your sensor connector. You can do a ohm test on the sensor itself and do a continuity test on the actual wire. To check the actual oil pressure, you can buy a screw in oil pressure sensor that can test it. Depending on where you live, you can rent one with all the connections and fittings that screw in where the pressure sensor goes. If not, Harbor freight sells them or you can check Amazon. I hope this gets you to the right direction. Also, you should have pressure between 20-30 psi at idle.
Hello i have a 2008 Audi Q7 4.2 my oil pressure light comes on sometimes when starting the vehicle or when pressing on gas sometimes it wont do it on start up you think that could be the problem??
