0:07 Florence throwing her hands in the air after Freddie immediately does what she just told him not to do always cracks me up. It's the little character moments I love so much about this production
@@jigurd Unfortunately he didn't sing the chorus, but if you want to hear som vocals from him in his prime, you should listen to jesus christ superstar, especially heaven on their minds.
This Molokov's voice might not be perfect but his acting, his performance, amazing Also, Josh is definitely one of my favourite as Anatoly, his voice is really good
While it's very easy to just say that Korberg is the best in the part (which is probably true) and that everyone else pales in comparison, musically speaking Groban is perfect for the part. Whereas Freddie is this really cold-sounding, high rock tenor, Anatoly needs to have a strong upper register, but he also needs to have this really warm, masculine sound to him, which makes him sympathetic and contrasts him vocally with Freddie. And Josh Groban's voice is absolutely perfect for that.
I read somewhere that Tim Rice wanted to build the cast around Josh Groban as Anatoly after seeing Josh a few years before in the Actor's Fund of America concert, also with Adam Pascal. Wow, that was a long sentence... Anyway, yes. I agree! This is a fantastic cast. I also wouldn't have cast Josh for Anatoly, but his voice is actually perfect for the role.
I agree! Even Groban's slight natural stiffness and awkwardness is appropriate for the character. And his voice, no question. I'm not sure how many theatre roles Josh would be truly right for, but this one fits him like a glove.
Press Conference ! My favourite bit in the whole musical. Went to see it in London with the lady who became my wife for a short while and her cousin. Got the dramatic tune for that section stuck in my head for over 20 years without being able to properly identify it until I found a version here on RU-vid.. The version here is superb !
I was fortunate enough to see Murray Head and Tommy Korberg reprise their roles in NZ in the early nineties. AWESOME! Wish I had of known about this it would have been amazing to see! Plus I've seen the wonderful David Bedella as Frank N Furter! Great voice. This is an excellent cast!
Which version of this did you see Ramin in, out of curiosity? The 2018 Kennedy Center production, or the 2020 Japan production? Or another one I'm not aware he was in?
Damn, I just get into my Phantom of the Opera phase and going back to this concert I realized this 1:44 is Jon Robyns, the current West End's Phantom 😄
What is the name of the wonderful actor/singer playing the Russian head of intrigue? Oh my how wonderful he is - why don't we see more of him in the world of entertainment?
If you're referring to the character of Molokov, that would be David Bedella. I'm not entirely certain how many of his performances are readily available for online viewing but he's had leading roles in productions of the Rocky Horror Show and Jerry Springer: The Opera. I really love his work
Doesn’t matter the production, there’s something so inherently funny to me about the reporter asking “will you be quitting for good if you lose?” and freddie just not even gracing her with a response

I’m afraid Groban's youth and inexperience put him at a disadvantage when I consider his acting against that of the others in the cast. But his singing is superlative. In fact, I prefer his singing here to anything else he's done.
@@JF-sh2sm Though the original 1984 version is sung by Swedish singers Tommy Körberg(the original Anatoly, a role he would reprise in 2002) and Bjorn Skiffs(The Arbiter, and also the original choice for Freddie before Murray Head). You're right that the original language of the show is English, but there were at least performances given by people FROM Sweden.
i was in the audience that night a long, long, time ago. I am a musician so i know a little bit about pitch, tone ,vibrato etc. Josh Groban has a great voice but Indina Menel is a above average but when she tries to hit those higher notes it sounds like a off key shrill, sounds like my budgie & it doesn't happen once or twice, it happens at least 6-7 times during the show. Now i know that her name alone will sel tickets but i am surprised they chose her. If this was a Broadway Show & this was opening night her singing would cost the show dearly in ticket sales so a one off concert version wouldn't hurt the brand too much. Menzel is not anywhere near the class of Groban who, in this case, was the glue which held this concert together. I hope he got paid more than Menzel because he covered up a lot of her mistakes.
If your referring to Molokov... That my friend is David Bedella, You will find him in Rocky Horror Show, Jerry Springer Opera, and I also saw him in Chicago in West End. x
Listen. Groban is good, there’s no denying that. But all I’m hearing is Groban and not Anatoly, if that makes sense. Korberg will always be better in my opinion only because he is Anatoly, I don’t hear anything else.
I love Josh Groban and have seen him several times in concert. Same with Idina Menzel. But i feel each were a little miscast. Josh sings the songs great but i feel he is just missing the character like Korberg brought to the part. As far as Florence, i think i just REALLY miss Elaine Paige.
3:19 So...look, I know the plot, I know this isn't a silly musical and that this character represents something...but I SO, SO want him to just, in the middle of his lines, yell out, "SPACE!" a la ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g1Sq1Nr58hM.html.
This too??? These new songs sound too "broadwayish," This needs to be on Glee :( I don't want to hear different songs. I grew up with the American and London version of Chess. Not digging the new songs and Menzel isn't doing if for me. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her in RENT, but I'm not hot on her here
There weren’t any “new songs”, this concert is 90% based on the original London version, with the addition of only two songs from the Broadway version: ‘Someone Else’s Story’ and the Prologue.
